  1. Another flop, another disappointment, especially as we could have gone just 4 points behind QP. I've stated this several times during this largely boring season, but I'll do it again, given that several other folk have commented on it in this thread: Far too much completely useless tippy-tappy sideways and backwards passing, especially when there is absolutely no need for it. Five or six of those passes, and we are not one inch further forward, while the entire opposition team can comfortably sit back and wait until somebody finally tries a forward pass or, God forbid, even tries to run forward (fat chance), or until the almost inevitable fruitless punt. Almost the entire team is guilty of this kind of garbage, but Bannigan is the specialist: a 5-yard sideways pass (often after a cursory attempt to move forward but then of course checking back), then runs over to the guy he just passed to and gets the ball back from him, and repeats. Checking back is what most of our players do best when (if they manage to) receive a pass. The aim seems to be to get rid of the ball, and the easiest way out is to pass it back. Our team has been guilty of this non-football since the time of McNamara, who at least had some exciting players who could eventually show some speed and flair. The team is too old: in several players not only the legs but the coordination have gone, and too many of the others are nothing but colourless journeymen, always will be. Wherever we end up, a huge clear-out is needed. I don't go along with the notion that we have a good squad; we have a bang average or lower than average squad in terms of ability. In fact I'd even say that maybe they deserve some credit in that they are punching above their weight, and little more can realistically be expected of such a collection of odds and sods. Oh and please spare me the notion that Turner is some kind of wonderful dead ball specialist..... dreadful corners and free kicks, with absolutely no sign of any kind of threat from them. Time after time after time. And offers little else to compensate.

  3. I thought ICT defended really well and sometimes shit happens in this league. Brilliant save by their goalie in first half. From that point on pretty much knew it wasn't going to be our night. At least the manager tried to change things even if it didn't work out. Way too soon to be passing judgement.

  5. Agree with your appraisal of the game , biggest mistake Dools made was taking off Lawless especially the way the game turned out , he was the only player who could have unlocked a packed defence with his ability.

  6. Do agree our attacking element was very weak and has to be said has been last couple of games. on reflection that was a very fair point you made that Brownlie has been part of a defence that conceded 1 goal in about 6 games and as you have rightly mentioned mate our main problems are at the other end

  7. Not disagreeing with your point about his fitness but we should have been able to recover from his mistake especially against 10 men for almost the whole of the second half. He made one mistake but our forward play was littered with mistakes, predictable and relatively easy for ICT to deal with. Therefore those guys are as much responsible for the defeat as he is. Indeed Docherty’s post match interview was more honest than Dools - that our attacking play is an issue and needs fixing.

  8. Not only that, but the sideways and backwards passing when the other team is ahead is simply poor game management, as it runs down the clock, increasing their advantage. When it gets near to the end of a half or full-time, then it's suicidal: at those times in the game, the ball has to be put into the opposition box, or the advantage of possession is just being given away. How often do we see this, though? The tactics at these points in the game are self-defeating. (Louis van Gaal understood that in his last game in charge of the Netherlands, when he subbed to introduce tall players and told his team to keep putting high balls into the box - not usual for his teams, but appropriate in the circumstances.)

  9. That result had been coming sadly. Our defence has been a lot tighter but the goals have dried up, as soon as a team scored against us we were always going to be up against it. Our total lack of shots on goal when they went down to ten men summed it up. Give it to Tiffoney and hope he can magic something up seemed to be the order of the day. Or pass it wide to McMillan and let him hit the first man/cross the ball out. Brownlie made a mistake, he's not alone. However, his condition for a professional footballer is awful and has been for most of the season. I take in to account he had been out for a lengthy spell but he's been fit for around 6 months now and is still overweight. Why has this not been sorted? Sadly our team just isn't quite as good as we'd hoped at the start of the season. Sure, we can be the best team in the league when it suits but far too often we are turned over when it's time to roll the sleeves up. We have some decent players in the squad, some who have been excellent for us but are now struggling to produce for a full season. You can't argue with what Graham has done for Thistle but his performances lately haven't been great and his first touch last night meant that we had zero opportunity to get the bodies forward. He's far from alone at being guilty of this mind you. I've spoken about Fitzpatrick before but until his attitude changes, I wouldn't be bringing him off the bench. A carbon copy of the Dundee game, first touch gives the ball away as he stands and lets his teammates chase back. Doolan has a big job on his hands, we'll need much better quality if we are to compete next year given who will be in the league (barring some miracle that we go up through the playoffs). Sadly I'm not sure we'll have a decent budget for a major overhaul.

  10. The difference for me was that Doolan at least tried something different by putting on some more attacking players. OK so it didn’t work, but it wasn’t an attempt to keep trying the same thing. Special mention to Brian Graham’s first touch which must be the longest I have seen. ICT were bigger and stronger and, like the first game up there, bullied us off the ball, especially when 11v11

  11. Absolutely. Number of times we tap the ball around, pass back to Stuart "The Best Player in the Division" Bannigan to just balloon the ball up in the air to nobody. But as I have said since the time of the Barton/Osman pairing, our insistence on two completely defensively minded CMs means that we create so little through the middle of the park.

  12. So if we win a few points it’s the new manager bounce and a reinvigorated squad, but if we play p”sh then it’s the former manager’s squad. Plain truth is that it’s neither.
