When the announcement about the new scouting system came through I asked if anyone knew how this worked. We don’t have the cash for our own system so take it we buy into an existing one which serves a number of teams. This was similar to the one Archie used. No doubt every time we get a player through this we pay the central scouting outfit - makes you wonder whose interest it actually serves? Fills me with fear.

Scouting team . Think the issue here is that it will not be our own dedicated scouting team . I’d imagine that this will be a large scouting network that we buy into and I’d imagine that they get paid when we take someone they have scouted on ? I’d think you need to be very careful with that. Might be similar to the model Archie used a few years ago

The Williams signing- always wonder how a player like this ends up at firhill - very random . We don’t have a scouting network / doolan can’t have many contacts down south / wales/ Ireland . Is it agents just send round videos of players looking for a new club and you basically take a lucky ping. Doubt anyone at thistle will have seen him play before? 2 year contract is a fair time if it doesn’t work out

Think we will do well to finish mid table next year. United will have decent team, Caley decent with money from cup run, raith are investing, Queen’s Park well off , Ayr relatively stable, Arbroath have decent budget and Dunfermline are on the up. Leaves us, Morton and airdrie to fight it out at bottom me thinks. Certainly won’t be budgeting for coming second which will lower the budget even more!
