  1. At least their European Cup and Invincible successes reinforce the truth that great achievements come in 50 year cycles. Roll on 2021.
  2. I have just phoned and renewed season ticket plus Jagzone no problem. I chose Option 1 and George Francis answered the phone.
  3. If the pitch is reseeding does that mean it is getting further away?
  4. What Simon Murray would bring (if true), and I say this as a compliment is that element of bad-tempered nastiness which is a balancing counterpart to the positive role model personalities of such as Kris Doolan and Chris Erskine. In that sense, although in a different position, he would replace the double-edged fire and brimstone we have perhaps lacked since Higgy's departure.
  5. I think that it is not so much that we have downed tools in last few games, but more that for a lengthy run of games prior to that we "upped tools", if that make sense.
  6. Ross Forbes is probably the ex-Jag who has had the best season at Championship level, although James Craigen is coming with a late run. I presume no way back for either of them and best to remain as fond memories.
  7. Ryan Stevenson and to a lesser extent Lyle Taylor were given some air time.
  8. We must have been setting our targets too low. I promise not to moan too much if we lose a couple of games after clinching next season's Premiership title.
  9. Andy Walker Robert Connor Neither particularly memorable as regards their contribution to Thistle.
  10. Erskine and Lawless first I think. But by all means McLaughlin later.
  11. "He wears Number 9" is already a Thistle classic. Much as Kris(topher?) deserves all the adulation which has come his way, how about some recognition for those who faithfully ply their trade wearing other squad numbers? Here are a few suggestions. Some are OK, but several are substandard and I am sure could be improved. I have tried to include most of those who have been regular members of the squad, plus three guys who sadly have been kept on the sidelines due to injury. Apologies for the inevitable omissions. Looking forward to hearing better and more imaginative ideas from others. (Small drafting note-where a number has more than 2 syllables, it scans better if the word "number" is dropped. So "he wears number one", but "he wears seventeen"). I cannot claim to have invented number nine. Also the number ten idea was posted by somebody else, Apologies that I cannot remember who it was, but thank you all the same. He wears number one, saves goals for fun, Tomas Cerny. He wears number two, he's quicker than you, Mustapha Dumbuya. He wears number three, Mr Consistency, Callum Booth. He wears number four, every spot kick he'll score, Sean Welsh. He wears number five, best defender alive, Liam Lindsay, He wears number six, gets us out of a fix, Abdul Osman. He wears number seven, the winger from heaven, David Amoo. He wears number eight, he's worth the wait, Stuart Bannigan. He wears number nine, scores all the time, Kristopher Doolan. He wears number ten, scores now and again, Christopher Erskine. He wears eleven, seeing is believing, Steven Lawless. He wears number twelve, stands up for himself, Ryan Scully. He wears number thirteen, a big star for certain, Adam Barton. He wears number fourteen, he's just so important, Christie Elliott. He wears number fifteen, his focus never drifting, Daniel Devine. He wears number sixteen, causes defenders friction, Ade Azeez. He wears seventeen, for a loanee he's keen, Niall Keown. He wears number eighteen, he'll soon be in the "A" team, David Wilson. He wears number nineteen, he's got a big engine, Ryan Edwards. He wears number twenty, we've not seen him plenty, Jason Banton. He wears twenty two, wishing good luck to you, Gary Fraser. He wears twenty five, his day will arrive, Mark Ridgers. He wears twenty seven, which rhymes with Kevin, Kevin Nisbet. He wears twenty nine, his corners are fine, James Penrice. He wears number thirty, he's clean, never dirty, Andrew McCarthy.
  12. Yet again that same photo of Liam and Kingsley appears. Are the club angling for a joint bid? In which case what is the combined transfer value of Liam and Kingsley? However, my understanding is that unless Kingsley signs a new deal his contract expires at the end of this season and therefore he may become available on a Bosman.
  13. So it is thanks to you that Kris knows the geography of the penalty box!?
  14. Agree with most of the above, especially as regards making earlier changes as players were clearly tiring. It would not be fair to move on from this game without highlighting exceptional performances by both Stevie Lawless and Christie Elliot.
  15. Been a brilliant season, but the encouraging and exciting thing is that there is so much room for improvement without having to spend megabucks to achieve it. What I mean is that we have not scraped sixth place by scrambling some lucky results. Based on our play in many of the games, we could easily have finished higher. As disappointed and deflated as anyone, but proud of the team and their performance. Some wonderful moves and just one other clinical finish would have given us that extra bit of confidence to see out the victory. Rather harsh on Edwards to call his chance a sitter. Some strange deflections off both Barton and Edwards and by the time Ryan had got control of the ball, the goalkeeper was right on top of him.
  16. BBC website has the famous picture of Kingsley and Liam, but they do not identify which is which. Do they think it is obvious or do they not know?
  17. Banton and Stanton would give me an excuse to revive the rhyming surname thread!
  18. I might even begin to warm to Leigh Griffiths Griffiths added: "If I had to choose one of the other three, I'd go for Alan Archibald. "His Thistle team came here a few weeks ago and played really well to get a point. With the chances they had, they could maybe have won the game. "With the budget they have and the way they are playing, they deserve to be in the top six."
  19. What about Sam Stanton, formerly of Hibs, now at Dumbarton? 4 years ago as a very young player, he was the absolute stand out in a crumbling Hibs side, creating and scoring goals and not letting his standards drop as all around him collapsed. I thought that he would be a star at championship level the next season, but for whatever reason (injury, loss of form or confidence, delayed relegation blues, poor attitude, I do not know), he hardly featured under Alan Stubbs and his career began to wander. However, he now seems to be back on track, scoring goals and contributing to Dumbarton's good run to safety. I appreciate that we would not normally recruit a player from the Championship, but he was such an outstanding prospect that this could be worth a thought. He could play wide and therefore replace David Amoo, but with more proactive involvement in the game and a more direct goal threat. He would also be able to supplement or when required replace the creativity of Erskine and Lawless in more central attacking areas.
  20. Absolutely agree on virtually all of this, Ian. The question as to who are now our first choice fullbacks is a very interesting one. I would submit that since Christie's latest surge forward in form (if it had not been for Doolan 101, Christie would have been stand out Man of the Match v Ross County), due to niggling injuries for Calum and Muzzy and the difficulty for them of playing 3 matches in a week, we have not yet had the situation where Archie has had to choose the best 2 from 3 fully fit and functioning fullbacks. Assuming that the 2 week break has enabled Calum's injury to settle, Saturday v Hearts may reveal the new or perhaps still the old pecking order. What we can all say without a shadow of a doubt is that Archie has so much better than a Meatloaf of fullbacks or wing backs at his disposal. It is not that 2 out of 3 ain't bad. 3 out of 3 are totally excellent!
  21. With the old 2 points for a win, as in 1977, we would have been top.
  22. Really dredging the memory banks here but am I correct in remembering a last day of the season win over Hibs at Firhill in or around 1977 which meant that we finished 5th and they finished 6th?
  23. Is Ni-all Ke-own the only ever Thistle player who in both his first name and his surname has consecutive vowels which are pronounced separately from each other? A far better defender than ten consecutive consonants maRKMCCHRYSTal.
  24. Paul Hartley might fancy his chances as a Member of Parliament. I am sure both George Galloway and Winston Churchill launched their political careers in Dundee. Nothing to do with anything, but I have just realised that the last two named could be referred to as Cat and Dog!!
  25. Willie Sharp jumped from 1 League goal in 1952-53 to 22 the next season.I am backing Ade Azeez to make a similar leap.
