  1. I hope they offer extended contracts to guys like Bannigan to tie them up. There are some players who it's obvious will go on to better things and a larger contract means more money for us in transfer fees.
  2. The reaction to the death of Thatcher is similar to the reaction to the death of Diana. Absolute overkill and nonsense from both "sides". People dancing in George Squareare the same minority who have a far louder voice than their actual support. Gone are the days of intellectual socialist and worker debate replaced by the shouting and crowing of the likes of Tommy Sheridan and Rosie Kane <shudder>. On the other side - 3 times general election winner, first woman party leader, first woman PM are history making in themselves. I still don't think it merits a funeral on the scale that is being held though. I was 12 when she left power. I hope in the coming years the impact and review can be done in less emotive ways. It seems that too many people have been watcing "Billy Elliot" and are desperate to have claimed to have been hard done by. Unions had too much powers, industries were dying, services were piss poor. Hammer to crack a nut? Perhaps. There was good and there was bad and many people shared both these things as they do with most governments including present day with the coalition in Westminster, SNP in Holyrood and local government make up. The romance of the 1970's and yesteryear by people who did not even live then is baffling. To blame all ill's on one person is wrong and historically inaccurate. It was also 3 decades ago. Different times mean different policies and views in present day.
  3. To bring this thread back to life we managed to sponsor the below. Looking back would we have sponsored Rowson when we had the opportunity to get Muirhead and Craigen who became vital and first picks in the starting XI? What a difference a season makes. Top (Away): David Rowson http://ptfc.co.uk/teams/senior/seasons/2012-2013/players/david_rowson Boots: Bradley Halsman http://ptfc.co.uk/teams/senior/seasons/2012-2013/players/bradley_halsman Boots: Ryan Scully http://ptfc.co.uk/teams/senior/seasons/2012-2013/players/ryan_scully I need to double check paypal with forum names and contibutions but I had a rough note of the following so again thankyou very much for donating. stolenscone, twinny, steelie_toes, belfastjag, Sam Leitch Loyal, stillresigned, east lothian jag, amsterdam jag, Muscat Jag, El Turko, JockinOz, deasach, Shuggie, Fawlty Towers, Derby Jag, Wiltshire Jag, Jaggernaut, German Jag, almacd. Last year BelfastJag won the shirt we sponsored as Paul Cairney picked out his name from bag I had with me. I picked up shirt on his behalf but would like to hold the draw in advance which would allow the winner to pick up the item themself if they are at the Dunfermline game. Pick up is in the boardroom so you get to meet other players and it is a nice experience. I'm thinking numbering everyone (one number per £10 donated so some will have multiple numbers) sending the list to another person to ensure all fair and then get another to pick the numbers blindly. It will be like picking teams as a kid down the park. Will confirm the details soon.
  4. I would love to play for Thistle but I would it would be a pay cut to be a full time footballer and as such I would not do it. I'm getting married this year and will be buying a family home and contributing to the Mini Jags club not that long after it. It's quite daunting when I sit and think about it properly on an emotion and financial basis (WTF am I doing?!! :-) . If I was a Thistle footballer and someone offered my better terms then TBH I would be off. Emotions are for the fans. Guys like Paton work extra in a gym and Doolan does community coaching. They are not on big money and any extra cash is always welcome. I cannot blame them as I would do the same. Cairney did have a nightmare in the semi-final but he will be on 3 maybe 4 times more than at Thistle. It's a no brainer.
  5. I don't think we have a choice. Small club. Need as much money as possible. Players already on low wages and we need to reward them and get some new players in. The close season will be very, very important for people buying season tickets, joining centenary fund and joining TAG.
  6. Richard Gordon on twitter says St Mirren and Ross County could have voted through the changes including the 11-1 voting farce and then reviewed league reconstruction for next season. Quite unhappy with these 2 smaller clubs who were in our and Morton/Dunfermline/Falkirk etc position not so long ago. I was willing to give the 12-12-18 league a go. Looked interesting and had potential if nothing else. At the very least they should have pushed everything else through and then got the ball and momentum rolling.
  7. Anyone who comes in must be better than what we have already got. A good spine to compliment what we already have. Backup goalie. Full backs we are weak when our 2 first choices are out we need midfielders to replace them. Replacements for any first teamers who are leaving.
  8. When McNamara resigned I was personally gutted. He really changed the club in a short space and has made us more professional in terms of diet - team lunches, training, conditioning, passing philosophy and getting young players in. However with Archie's great run I can now forgive and forget Jackie for leaving. However he signed a contract and now does not seem to be paying the compensation. The club gave him his break. They were loyal to him. He is not acting in the right way and he knows that money we are owed is a big deal to Thistle.
  9. What will the team be? It's great how everytime a player comes on as sub they do well and it's difficult to leave them out. Probably a tad tough on Craigen but I think Forbes is a very underrated player. Love his passing and dead balls. -----------------------------Fox----------------------------- O'Donnel-------Dowie---------Balatoni---------Sinclair -----Bannigan-----------Welsh------------Forbes------- -----Lawless-------------Doolan------------Erskine----- Daniels, Archibald, Elliot, Craigen, Craig
  10. Good news. I will be there for Dunfermline. Hope we do the business on Tuesday but happy to see the trophy lifted.
  11. Congratulations. That's another Thistle fan on the cards.
  12. Only been to Parkhead, Rugby Park and Fir Park so would like to tick more off the list. Have friends in Edinburgh and always like an excuse to go through as I do like the city so a trip to Tynecastle and Easter Road once each will definitely be on the cards. St Mirren for it's ease. Maybe a cheeky Friday night SPL game against Mortherwell or St Mirren could be on the cards. Not sure if I will make it up ICT, Ross County or Aberdeen but I do have a respect for the Highland teams and what they have achieved and would like to see the setup and atmosphere.
  13. Looking at a club our size it is difficult for us to have supporters who don't contribute to the club. Thistle are a small club. Rangers and Celtic can have thousands of "fans" who don't go to games, don't support financially but will watch on tv or gob off in the pub. Every little helps and for people to become members and give a small number of pounds a month it will all add up.
  14. You're typing this from the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship! Thanks for your efforts. They are appreciated.
  15. I think it's a great idea. It's a model similar to other clubs in Europe that we are copying and something that people have been crying out for. I'm not a massive fan of "Fans Trusts" - to much committee, arguments and toys out of pram with noise that replaces any good they achieve. It's not about highlights or freebies it's being a member of the club with more input, identity and a voice. Let's not get the whole "Nomad" thing blow out the water. I'm a Nomad although back in Glasgow more often than not these days but we do make up a small percentage of the fan base. Those who contribute to sponsoring a player, centenary fund, flags great. But £6 a month will give you more of a voice, support the club and allow further development. It's early steps. It will take time. But the foundation is there and I for one welcome it. Let's work together and keep up the good work.
  16. I'd keep the same team that started against Morton. They can recover and do light training inbetween games. Every game is a cup final until we get a trophy in our hands it is not over yet. I was at the Airdrie away game at Christmas and it was a poor draw. I do feel sorry for McGuigan though as I do like the look of him whenever he plays.
  17. Radio said the crowd was 8700 or 8800ish (can't remember the exact figure they said) but Richard Gordon thinks more.
  18. Richard Gordon on the radio. What a legend.
  19. Gutted not to be there. Totally gutted. But at the same time chuffed at the crowd.
  20. Livi derived from Meadowbank who derived from Ferranti. Nothing to do with Clydebank. Clydebank themselves were sort of created in the senior leagues before their then demise.
