  1. I see this game very differently from much of the above. I think Airdrie are in a much better place than we are. They are playing well and have some momentum. On the other hand we are a bit in and out of form, playing great stuff in patches and drawing as many games as we are winning. I don't think we have the same 'buzz' about us as Airdrie. I suspect Airdrie will smell blood and go for it. We may well end up with a draw but it will be a hard fought draw with the Jags, perhaps holding on at the end. Two wins v Airdrie and Ayr and 3rd place will be ours. If the Jags Team I love and cherish turns up we can do this but I feel the long injury list is starting to make an impact. I wany and hope for two wins but.........!
  2. Agreed. If nothing more that to wipe the grin of the face of an Airdrie supporter I bump into on a fairly regular basis. Throughout the season he thought Airdrie would at best be a mid-table team but this good run they are on has catapulted them into a play-off place and he has now become almost unbearable. A win for Dunfermline today and for us next week would bring Airdrie and their supporters down to earth. Fingers crossed.
  3. Well Dundee Utd have beaten Morton and now have a clear lead at the top of the championship. Although arithmetically Morton can still reach 4th place I think this defeat effectively confirms their place in next seasons championship. Regarding the Rsith game I can't recall the Jags ever winning at Starks Park. However regardless of the team formation I have a feeling we will win tomorrow. Thr least I expect is a draw.
  4. Winning the final game of last season and finishing second would have meant playing two fewer games in this daft and unfair play-off syetem. I am convinced finishing second would have meant promotion. The first signs of fatigue I noticed were in the second half of the home game v Ross County followed by our 'late collapse' at Dingwall. Of course with an impartial referee we could have still made it but Mr Walsh with 3 ridiculous decisions against us saw the end of that. In case people have forgotten I'm talking about the Docherty penalty not given, the lung on Tiffoney which should have been a red card and the hand ball against Graham which wasnt a hand ball andctherefore not a penalty. However even with a referee who was a total homer we would have gained promotion had Dingwall been our 4th and not our 6th play-off game! I don't know why everyone is so focused on finishing 3rd because other than more prize money we will still have 6 play-off games and the result, if we get to the final two games, will be the same - out on our feet by the 70th minute of the 6th game. Under Doolan in the play-off games a good team became a great team! I doubt with the squad we have he will be able to do this again.
  5. I am not going to be at todays game which is a positive for the Jags. I have never seen us win at East End Park. I recall the beating we got from Dunfermline in the televised game a few weeks ago and also that we were on the end of some really poor decisions. However I also recall the Fifers played really well and appear to have kept it going so an interesting game today. A team playing well and winning versus a team playing below their best and winning. I go for the latter a one goal win for the Jags- probably 3-2.
  6. Getting slightly off track here I watched my 12 year old grandson play against Raith Rovers. As the team captain and centre half was absent my grandson was captain for the day and dropped back from Central Midfield to Centre Half. The day after the game, which my grandson's team won by a 5 goal margin, the Coach issued his normal post match summary which though i have abbreviated read something like this (i have used first name initials rather than full name): "Although like Raith we were 3 players short today everyone played well to deliver a convincing victory. Due to Js absence we made B captain for the day and moved him from his usual position in Central Midfield back to Central defence. B played very well and gave a solid and commanding performance protecting our keeper who as a result had very little to do in the first half. With a 3 goal lead at HT we moved B forward to Central Midfied where he gave his usual strong tackling performance breaking up attacks high up the pitch, winning possession and starting our attacks". Man of the match was awarded, deservedly, to the centre forward who put in tireless performance and scored a hat trick. Watching this game and my grandson's performance I couldn't help but hope that in 8-10 years time he will be in the Jags midfield because the attributes he displayed in the above game were exactly what we need in both Central defence and midfield. Apologies for the lengthy account.
  7. I think I have a red, yellow and black tartan scarf somewhere. Will need to see if I can find it. I recall I wore it to a game at Firhill a couple of years ago.
  8. I'm a bit behind the clock but would just like to say that I totally agree with all of the above post. My Rangers friend agrees we got goal of the game and he said he breathed a lot easier after the third goal was scored. He felt his team deserved a 2-1 HT lead and that 3-1 flattered them. Its history now but a big well done to the ladies.
  9. We can get to 64pts. If you accept that teams down to Ayr (currently 8th) are in the fight for a play-off place then with the exception of Dunfermline and the Jags, Morton play all the teams between 8th and 1st. Airdrie, with the exception of a game v Arbroath , also play all the teams involved in the fight for a top 4 place. I expect that every week until the end of the season there will be at least two or more games featuring teams playing against each other and who are play-off hopefuls. So I anticipate many must win 6 pointers!! We are fortunste to have a little bit of daylight between us and the chasing pack. Therefore Kris Doolan and his squad should be focused on playing (and winning) one game at a time. Let the rest hang themselves.
  10. Thank you. At my age mid-70s it would be unusual not to have some ailments. I am very fortunate to have nothing too serious, so far. I think I over did the DIY and issues with my hips flared up. I will be OK in a few days. The irony is that Arbroath is only a 90 min drive and is one of the fixtures I can normally get to. Anyway as others have said 3 points and a clean sheet - a good days work. Thanks again.
  11. I couldn't make the game today so sorry about that. Various ailments one of which flared up yesterday sufficiently to restrict me to the house. I see Doolan saying we had two goals chopped off and one effort which hit the past and may have crossed the line. Why were the goals chopped off and are there any views on whether or not the post effort crossed the line?
  12. With Dunfermline winning last night we now have another rival for a play-off place. We need to find our mojo and quickly. I agree we need to stick with the team and the manager and give all the support we can. We are after all a special bred - we are Jags!!
  13. Not much I can add, in terns of how we play and the signings we have made, to what has been already stated in this thread. I can say that I have never thought we were a 'stick on' for a play-off place. A team that loses almost as many goals as it scores can never be trusted to achieve great things. When you consider that the majority of the goals we lose are very soft and are similar there are clearly deep seated issues to be addressed. We have also been unlucky with the timing of injuries but so have other clubs, for example, Morton. At the moment Morton and Airdrie look better play-off prospects. We really need to find a win and Saturday v Morton would be a good place to start.
  14. Just see the highlights which gave a fuller view of the goal. I agree Graham was offside when the ball was played through. We got away with one there - which was nice to see. However turning to the penalty. IMO the ref got this correct. Wilson did have his hands behind his back but as he went towards the Jags player to block the shot he turned away from the ball to protect himself andcas he did do his right arm spun out away from his body. A vlear hand ball and penalty. Callum Davidson has a point about our first goal but with regard to the second he is talking a lot of nonsence. I would bet if it was a Jag who handled the ball he would have wanted a penalty. I thought QP were a bit on the dirty side, like Morton, but was glad to see that we stood up to that and put in a few hefty challenges ourselves.
  15. Just looked at Camallain's video of Adeloye's goal. Certainly both Graham and Adeloye move beyond the QP defence after the free kick is taken - so not offside at that point. When Grahem eventually gets possession of the ball and pkays it across goal to Adeloye he is played onside by I think 2 QP players and there is no doubt Addloye is onside as he has a QP Player in front and goal side of hime when he moves forward to head the ball into the net! Soil think the assistant referee go it right. There was no offside. Also agree we have had many poor decisions against us particularly since the resumption of football following the covid lockdown!
  16. Callum Davidson, in his post-match comments, is very critical of the referee. He is saying Graham was offside at the first goal and for the penalty his defender had his hands behind his back. In summary the Ref's decisions cost QP the game. Thoughts anyone.
  17. Agree that we should be looking to win this game and in fact every game until the end of the season - including play off games if we get that far. Draws are absolutely no use to us now! Having said the above I have to admit I have no idea about the level of performance this Thistle team will produce! Fingers crossed for a win.
  18. Just watched the highlights and was very surprised at our performance. IMO we gave Celtic 4 goals. I can't imagine Grahem would have been very happy with his goalkeeper or the defence. They were very poor and gave away 'easy goals'. Also few players looked slow and out of sorts - very leggy. I was wondering if we has some illness or injuries in the squad and consequently had to play players who were not fully fit. A very strange performance from the team!
  19. Would like another goal or two. DU will bring on Watt and he generally scores against us!
  20. Graham in 3 mins. Has the ref disallowed the goal yet for offside. No! Oh well there goes my prediction of 0-4 DU
  21. Totally surprised by this team selection. Any guesses on the formation. Are we going 4-4-1-1, or 3-5-1-1, or 5-3-1-1 or any other formation.
  22. I'd play Williams and Neilson in central defence with Graham and Adeloye up front. Also Mitchell back in goal. Williams offers a greater physical presence than Muirhead and playing 2 up front would require DU to keep 3 defenders back. I'm not sure Williams has the savy to cope with Watt or Moult but can he be any worse than than recent defensive performances. My team would be: Mitchell McMillan, Williams, Neilson. Milne Stanway, Robinson, Mc Beth, Fitpatrick Graham, Adeloye. Stanway and McBeth can provide the ball winning and stopping the opposition playing attributes we so badly need. Lawless and Diack could come on from the bench, if needed. I wouldn't let Alston anywhere near a Jags Jersey though Bannigan and McInroy are still capable of having their 'moments' albeit they are becoming fewer. I know this post is a waste of time as Doolan won't endorse any of the above. 0-4 DU with Watt, Docherty, Holt and Fotheringham scoring.
  23. It would be a glass of red wine or Belhaven Best. I used to smoke when I was about 15yrs but gave it up after 1 fag!
  24. I am too old to be bothered about this or that tranche. As long as the future of the club is not threatened I am happy to let those who know about these matters get on with it. I think there are sufficient numbers of people involved who love the club and have its best interest at heart. To the Pars game. I am expecting an Ayr United and Queens Park night. By thos I mean we start on the front foot, stay on the front foot, play outstanding attacking football and hammer the Pars by 4/5 goals. In other words a good night for Jags fans. Oh, and of course gat 3 points.
