  1. Well Dundee Utd won't be knocking us out of the cup this year๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„
  2. Our 2nd goal bbc saying Fitzpattick scored with a header - that must be a collectors item!
  3. 39% possession no goal attempts - is this our usual slow start or are we being totally out played?
  4. That looks(on paper) a good team. Hope McMillan is fully fit and able to link up with Lawless. I assume Stanway's role is to protect the back 4 and Bannigan's is to start attacks by playing the ball out of defence! C'mon the Jags.
  5. I think this is a difficult one to call. In the past Queens Park enjoyed the upper hand v the Jags but in recent seasons this has flipped in our favour. QP are not enjoying the best of seasons and while we are grinding out results we are not playing as well as we can. Injuries and suspensions will make if difficult for us but I think (hope) Adeloye and Williams will be able to cover effectively for Graham and Milne. I am not so sure about Alston for McInroy. With home advantage and the support from the fans I think this should be enough to win the tie. It would help if we can keep Thomas quiet.
  6. That's two great away results v Aberdeen and Dundee Utd. The goals were also excellent and fit to grace any game. The header from the corner and Slater's shot into the postage stamp corner were special as was the only and winning goal v Dundee Utd. Now can we make it 3 away wins in a row against Motherwell. I would settle for another 1-0. C'Mon the Jags.
  7. Given the above I suppose there aren't any highlights of the game!?
  8. Great result 4th in league. That means the best te in Scotlad outside the 3 full time teams. Now if we can beat Dundee utd and Motherwell (both away) we will 'cement our 4th place position.
  9. I see our Ian is now Manager of Cyde who are currently Scotland's 42nd club at the bottom of League 2 and heading for oblivion. It will take a big offer to persuade him to return to Firhill as Director of Football!!
  10. An excellent draw for the Ladies and a home tie as well. If we win tonight we go above Hibs in the league but irrespective of league positions I think we go into the tie as underdogs. It's a tie we can win but it eill be tough. Very best of luck to the ladies gor both games.
  11. What a bum appointment. Should have been Earl McCall of Byres Road.
  12. A big well done to the Ladies and best of luck in the semi- final. Still punching above our weight and if we win our game in hand v Aberdeen we go 4th in the league - what an awesome effort.
  13. What did Graham do after being subbed? Did he say something to the referee as he was walking off?
  14. I thought his one touch control of the long diagonal ball from Muirhead, which also took out the defender was excellent. He complimented this by then hitting an excellent ball across the goal which Grahsm would have scored from if he had hit the ball up into the net rather than along the ground. We really don't need him to be on the ball just to break up attacks and when he wins the ball give it to McInroy.
  15. โธ I agree that we should not change a winning team. My suggestion of looking at Williams as our strong ball winning , defensive midfielder wasn't meant for the Morton game. I apologise for not making this clear. Williams suitability for this role has to be worked on and tested on the training pitch before being tried out in an actual gane. The suggestion was made with a view to being tried out before the January transfer window and if it works it saves us some monet that might be spent elsewhere. As for the Morton game I wouldn't bring McMillan back I would give him a place on the bench. Best of luck to all Jags for today's game.
  16. OK i zee your point of view. I think we should as a team be moving beyond the tactics where we plan to play everything through Bannigan So in making my suggestion Bannigan "s omissions was deliberate. I feel he slows down our attacking efforts. Everytime I see him and even when he has been playing well, there have been occasions when he has passed the ball to the side even when there has been a forward pass option. A major criticism of how we play is that we are too slow moving forward. I was trying to address this with my formation and leaving out Bannigan as we have proved under Doolan that when we get forward quickly we score goals. Thank you for your response as I note it is made with a view to supporting my Williams suggestion.
  17. Our lack of strengh in midfield and the consequences of this have been well documented by many posters on this site. I wasn't impressed by Williams early in the season but as a right back I have to give him credit and say he has impressed. However favour McMillan as he and Lawless offer us dangerous attacking threat. Williams is a big strong player and in recent games has shown he is a footballer. Would he be an optoon for our midfield say playing as a No. 4 but mainly in a defensive and ball winning role. For example (4-4-1-1 formation) Sneddon McMillan/M'head/Neilson/Milne L'les/Williams/McInroy/Fitzpstrick Adeloye Graham I envisage Williams winning the ball, passing it to Mcinroy (for exsmple) and as we attack he stays back with Muirhead and Neilson. I also think Adeloye has enough football in him and mobility to cope with the role of playing behind and supporting Grahem. Perhaps the above is evidence supporting why I will never make a football manager!! Any thoughts.
  18. I don't think Mitchell has and cause to feel aggrieved about being on the bench. The same thing has happened to Sneddon. I recall he was first choice, picked up and injury, Mitchell came in, played well and kept his place. I also recall that Sneddon finished last season as first choice yet started this season as second choice. As far as our keepers are concerned it looks like Doolan's approach is to let which ever keeper come in keep his place as long as he continues to do well.
  19. Great win today. I was apprehensive about this game given the 3-0 defeat from Arbroath at Firhill and our run of poor form. I was intrigued by our formation today shown by BBC as 4-5-1. My first thoughts were it would:: - flood midfield with Jags players and make it harder for the opposition to play through us - provide more cover for our back 4 and more support for our front player provided the middle 5 were sufficiently mobile - our players would be playing closer together enabling us to play in small units of 2-3 players - retain possession. As I cant get to games i wonder if we actually played in this formation and notwithstanding that we won, what fans who attended thought about it.
  20. I'm afraid I have never been a fan of Muirhead. I think he is OK and reasonably reliable as the 'second" man in our central defence as long as he has a player like Holt playing beside him. As the 'main man though I think he isn't strong, intelligent, responsible or mature enough for this role. In fact I think as Balatoni was once described, 'a bomb scare'! Yellow cards, red cards a mistake and penalties are I feel just around the corner for Muirhead. IMO Doolan should, in addition to a strong defensive midfielder, be looking for two big hard tackling but mobile central defenders! As long as Muirhead is our main man in central defence we will be vulnerable regardless of the midfield cover we may or may not be able to provide. I doubt we have the resources to sign any of the above. Sorry about the above but I thought he was the weak link in the McNamara/Archibald promotion team and as far as I can see he hasn't improved.
  21. GMS, promised great things early in his career but never fulfilled his potential - just like Blair Alston! I think signing him would be a risk but if Doolan thinks he could help GMS turn things around well then...........!!
  22. I meant to mention that Doolan's has also repeated a mistake made by Caldwell - signing a plethora of midfielders of a similar type! In spite of all these signed midfielders we still need, as a previous poster suggested " a right dirty hard man and a defensive midfielder"! Given the choice I would go for the Director of Footbal - if that's the title you choose to use to: a) help Doolan rebalance the squad, especially the mix and numbers of midfielders and, b) when funds become available, sign players of the calibre of Turner, Tiffoney, Holt and Docherty. I would start with Easton of Raith to replace Turner.
  23. I know we are all in shock after Saturdays poor result v Dundee Utd and we want big improvements across a number of areas, for example, new signings, team and management performance and an expression of the medium to long term plans for the club. The facts are that there still appears to be control issues at senior levels of the club, we have a new young, inexperienced but promising manager and a team whose performances have been inconsistent and well below the levels of last season. However we not only lost our 4 best players, all brought to the club by Ian McCall, but 4 of the best players in the Championship. We were never going to be able, with our financial issues, to replace like with like. What I will say is that, although thrown into the deep end, by the play-off games Doolan had the team playing the best football I have seen from a Jags team in years including the first 70 minutes at Ross County where we were cheated out of a promotion to the SPL.. We should get behind the team and cut Doolan some slack. If he demonstrates that he is not learning from his mistakes, eg the change of formation v Raith and perhaps the failures to make changes earlier on Saturday then with his undoubted potential in mind we should bring in an experienced/older coach to mentor him before we consider any other option.
  24. With the Rzith game off as well we could fo some damage here with a win!
  25. I watched the highlights of the Peterhead/Dundee Utd cup tie and although Utd won comfortably in the end the Blue Toon had their moments. It struck me that Peterhead seemed to do well when they moved the ball down either wing then cut or passed inside. I assume we had someone at the game watching them and hope this was noted. We might be able to gain advantage by doing the same using Milne, Fitzpatrick and Lawless. Its a pity McMillan is not avsilable yet.
