  1. A lively start to 2023-24 with an impressive brand new club-record to savour... Kelty Hearts 1 Partick Thistle 2 → NEW CLUB-RECORD FOR BRIAN GRAHAM! ● The opening game of the 149th season of Partick Thistle F.C. ● Thistle are back in action after 30 days, matching the club-record for the shortest close season, which was set back in 1951, the 'Festival of Britain' season. ● Thistle play on the 4th July for the first-time ever. Only 7 calendar dates remain unplayed. ● The amazing Brian Graham becomes the first Jag in history to score in 4 consecutive season openers. The #9 had previously scored in wins over BSC Glasgow (2020), Kelty Hearts (2021) and Alloa Athletic (2022). The previous record (3-in-a-row) was jointly held by Willie Paul (1893), John Wallace (1938), Willie Newall (1943) and Alex Stott (1952). ● Amazingly, Thistle have now scored in ELEVEN consecutive first halves. It's the longest such run since March 1938, when an impressive 14-in-a-row was registered. ● 16-year-old Ché Campbell makes his Thistle debut. ● 16/17-year-old Sallu Turay makes his Thistle debut. ● 22-year-old Euan East (as a trialist) makes his Thistle debut. ● 20-year-old Harrison Nee (as a trialist) makes his Thistle debut and becomes the latest member of our scoring debutants club. ● 23-year-old Wasiri Williams makes his Thistle debut. ● 25-year-old Dominic Morgan-Griffiths (as a trialist) makes his Thistle debut. ● 25-year-old Josh Kerr (as a trialist) makes his Thistle debut. ● 31-year-old Scott Robinson makes his Thistle debut. ● 8 new players as above takes our A-Z beyond the 2,000 threshold. An incredible 2,001 players are known to have featured in a first-team squad since 1876. ● It's now played 4, won 4 for Thistle in the H2H versus Kelty Hearts (albeit the run includes 3 friendlies). ● Thistle win a 5th consecutive season-opener (2019-2023) for the first time since doing so between 1977 and 1981.
  2. Massive day for everyone who has an interest in the history of this great institution that we all cherish... ...we recently researched the correct birth date of JOHN BLAIR the immortal, whose goal won the Scottish Cup for Thistle in 1921. Today is a perfect day to announce this, together with a big update to his life story... as he was born ON THIS DAY in 1897 in Saltcoats! John Blair → To celebrate, the famous letter of 1921 becomes the 20th item in our virtual museum. But what was his Scottish Cup win bonus talked about in the letter? The esteemed Robert Reid reveals all... The John Blair letter @ The Archive Museum → We REALLY wanted to secure all the birth days in time for the 100th anniversary of the cup win a couple of years ago, but one player always eluded us. Perhaps it was meant to be, as we'd have been wrong about John Blair back then. FINALLY though, we're ****-a-hoop to have nailed down the birth details for MATT WILSON, the last (and as it turns out, the youngest @ 19!) of our Scottish Cup winners to be ID'd. American immigration docs were the key which unlocked. His 'Bio Extra' entry is greatly expanded upon today... Matt Wilson → And so, on the 126th anniversary of John Blair's birth, we're very proud to present your 1921 Scottish Cup winners, the starting eleven now fully aged for the momentous occasion. This is Thistle history being written; better late than never, eh? Partick Thistle 1 Rangers 0, 16 April 1921 →
  3. Fascinating! Where on earth, how the heck did you, etc? 😄
  4. Wasn't all that long ago that we discovered the oldest known footage of Partick Thistle in action at Firhill (1956) and now - the second oldest, wow! Treasured glimpses from the excellent new Archie McPherson episode of the BBC Icons series... 14-Sep-1968 Partick Thistle 4 Clyde 0 (SFL First Division - game 2) →
  5. A couple of cool new pages added to the Archive today, inspired by Scotland. Thistle have done well against Norwegian, Spanish and Cypriot sides, losing just once in 14 games! In total, Thistle have played 241 matches against opponents from 24 countries aside from Scotland. As well as the summary table, our new page lists each match alphabetically by country then club... Results Summary: Non-Scottish (All Games), by country → Thistle's 241 foreign jousts have resulted in 139 non Scottish opponents from Aalborg to Zagreb. As well as a summary table, our second new lists each match chronologically... Results Summary: Non-Scottish (All Games), by opponent →
  6. Undoubtedly it was better to have crashed and burned under Doolan than to have faded away under McCall, but that was possibly the most horrendous collapse in the history of this football club. Drained. Shell-shocked. Disconsolate. Think we've all been through the wringer in the last few days. Recovery from this may not be so easy... ... was hard to get motivated to assemble the 55th and final match hub of the season, but it's done now, if you can bear to look. The hub carries a good report from Graeme McGarry, as well as several video options, and we're hoping to embed some photos from Donald Wilson soon. Elsewhere, the final squad stats tables make for incredible reading, 130 competitive goals or assists from just 7 Jags (Brian Graham, Kyle Turner, Scott Tiffoney, Jack McMillan, Steven Lawless, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Kevin Holt) which is way off the scale of normality. It's been quite the season in so many ways. The Thistle Archive → UNWANTED FINAL RECORD ● The closing game of the 148th season of Partick Thistle F.C. ● At 348 days ('All Games') 2022-23 breaks the previous longest season record (1889-90) by 10 days and at 330 days ('Competitive') it breaks that previous record (1995-96) by 4 days. ● Thistle play on the 4th June for the first-time ever. Only 8 calendar dates remain unplayed. ● Thistle field the same starting eleven in a fifth consecutive game, the longest such run since 5-in-a-row in late 2020. ● Jack McMillan completes the ever-impressive feat of appearing in every competitive match of the season, and is the first to do so since James Penrice and Blair Spittal, both of whom managed the feat in 2018-19. ● Jack McMillan registers his 52nd appearance of the season, putting him joint 6th of all-time in that respect. It's the highest tally since Mo Johnston (55) in 1982-83, and 4 off the club-record (56) set by Davie McParland in 1963-64. ● Amazingly, Thistle have now scored in TEN consecutive first halves. It's the longest such run since March 1938, when an impressive 14-in-a-row was registered. ● In the first half, Thistle go 16 competitive goals without reply, the longest such streak since 16 successive goals were scored in April 2021 (the club's all-time League record). ● Partick Thistle finalise the Scottish record for most goals in a single play-offs campaign, an incredible 19 in 6 games. ● Partick Thistle become the first club in Scottish football to blow a 3 goal lead in any play-offs final. Thistle are the 4th club to suffer such a fate in the play-offs in all, following on from Alloa (2008 & 2023), Forfar (2013) and Montrose (2022). ● Thistle have went to penalties versus Ross County on 3 occasions and have lost each and every time. ● Victoria Park used to be a happy hunting ground, but, for the first time in history, Thistle go 5 competitive games without an away win to Ross County, a run which stretches from 2017 to date. ● With 101 goals in all competitions, the class of 22-23 finish as the outright 5th highest scoring Thistle team of all-time. It's the highest tally since the club-record (121) was set in 1953-54. ongoing sequences: ● 8 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 8 games; 3rd Mar 2020 to 5th Dec 2020. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.) ● 52 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Blair Spittal - 57 games, 31st Mar 2018 to 4th May 2019. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  7. Excellent, Paul Ritchie had the honour of the dramatic last act of that season! Today, the Jags will attempt to be promoted for the 12th time, but, if it happens, it won't be the first for June. Although they'd won the Second Division, the very first promotion (in 1897) didn't become the reality until the election vote at the League AGM on 1st June! Weird fact... in the competitive H2H with Ross County, the Jags have won more often in Dingwall (11 times) than they have in Maryhill (10 times). Here's hoping we can break the 4th team hoodoo today... “Records have to be broken at some point. So, why not us?” ~ Kris Doolan, May, 2023
  8. Oops, corrected, thanks! We did indeed, it was an all-time record in League terms too.
  9. More records than the KGB! 😎 Most of the post-County updates are now in place on the Archive → Does anyone know why the home stands were described pre-match as a "sell out" and "at capacity" when (only!) 6,800 home fans were declared in the end? Isn't that's 1,200 short of capacity? 🤔 CENTURIONS ● This game officially re-sets the bar as the longest competitive season in PTFC history (327 days and counting) taking over from 1995-96 (326 days). ● Thistle play on the 1st June for the first-time ever. Only 10 calendar dates remain unplayed. ● Thistle field the same starting eleven in a fourth consecutive game, the longest such run since 5-in-a-row in late 2020. ● For the very first time, VAR is used in a match at Firhill. David Munro has been the referee on both occasions when VAR has been used in a Thistle game having also been the man-in-the-middle for the Scottish cup tie at Ibrox in February 2023. ● Amazingly, Thistle have now scored in NINE consecutive first halves; you need to rewind to March 1938 to find a longer run (14). ● 16-year-old Dylan Smith receives the earliest red-card against Thistle (17 mins) since Stewart McKimmie of Aberdeen who was sent off in the 9th minute of Thistle's 1-0 League win at Firhill in December, 1995. ● Brian Graham sets a new Scottish record for most goals (5) in a play-off campaign. He takes over from Simon Murray (Dundee United) who notched 4 goals in 2016-17. ● Kris Doolan's Jags have now scored two or more goals in eight consecutive competitive matches. You need to rewind to September 1956 to find a longer run (11, by Davie Meiklejohn's boys). ● It's now an amazing 15 competitive goals without reply for this Thistle team, the longest such streak since 16 successive goals were scored in April 2021 (an all-time League record). ● On the night that we pay tribute to Hugh Strachan with a minutes applause, the class of 22-23 match the astonishing tally that Hugh's class of 70-71 achieved - 100 competitive goals in single season. Wow - it was written in the stars! The centurions of 2022-23 are now (jointly) the 5th highest scoring Thistle team of all-time. ● Congratulations to the PTFC class of 2022-23 who have now registered 27 competitive wins in the season. It's the 3rd highest tally of all-time, behind 2012-13 (31) and 1975-76 (30). ● For the first time in history, Partick Thistle have won a competitive match in 12 different months within the same season! ● Partick Thistle extend the Scottish record for most goals in a single play-offs campaign, now standing at an incredible 18. ● Partick Thistle become the first Scottish club to win 5 games in a single play-offs campaign. ● Partick Thistle become the first Scottish club to register 4 clean-sheets in a single play-offs campaign and David Mitchell duly sets the new record for a 'keeper. ● Thistle win to nil for the fourth consecutive competitive game. Kris Doolan's Jags are now one such victory away from equalling the all-time club-record of 5-in-a-row which was set by Alan Archibald's side in March 2013 and equalled by Ian McCalll's Thistle team in April 2021. ongoing sequences: ● 5 consective competitive wins; 9th May 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games; 10th Apr 2021 to 24th Apr 2021. Club-record: 10 wins, 22nd Oct 1932 to 26th Dec 1932.) ● 8 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 8 games; 3rd Mar 2020 to 5th Dec 2020. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.) ● 11 competitive games without defeat, 1st Apr 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 12 games, 19th Jan 2013 to 2nd Apr 2013. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.) ● 51 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: James Penrice - 51 games, 7th Sep 2019 to 10th Apr 2021. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  10. Amazing stats flooding out all over right now and most of the post-Somerset updates are now in place at the Archive → And, yes, the Stats Watch entry title this week is partly inspired by our old forum friend! JAGGERNAUT ● 100 years from the first competitive encounter, Thistle meet Ayr United for the 150th time. ● Now 339 days long, 2022-23 becomes the longest season ('All Games') on record. The previous record (338 days) was set in 1889-90. And it's not done yet ; - ) ● Jack McMillan reaches 50 competitive appearances in season 2022-23. He's only the second Jag to do so this century, following on from Grant Murray (51) in the promotion-winning season of 2005-06. ● Thistle have now scored in EIGHT consecutive first halves; you need to rewind to August 1971 to find a longer run (9). ● Bizarrely, 3 of Jack McMillan's 5 goals for the club have been scored in the last 4 games, all in the play-offs. ● It's now 12 direct goal involvements in his last 9 games for the incredible Scott Tiffoney who will now seek to register a counter in a 10th consecutive game in which he's appeared. His second goal of the night was his 25th goal for the club, all scored in competitive action. ● Jack McMillan (12) and Kyle Turner (13) now sit 2nd and 1st with the highest assist tallies of any Jag in the last 10 seasons, and it's a fascinating battle between the two for this season's crown. ● Kris Doolan's Jags have now scored two or more goals in seven consecutive competitive matches. You need to rewind to December 1967 to find a longer run (8, by Willie Thornton's boys). Jaggernaut. ● With their 3rd 'total football' goal of the night Partick Thistle FC set a new Scottish goals record for same-season play-off games, overtaking Forfar Athletic's 13-goal tally of 2016-17. The new record sits at 16 goals - where will it end? ● The maestro who is Steven Lawless hits the 44 competitive goals mark for Partick Thistle and enters the All-Time Top 50 goals chart. It's amazing to have two Jagsmen on the ascent simultaneously in the higher echelons - keep an eye on their progress in our illustrated chart from hereon. ● Kevin Holt hits the 9 goal mark for 2022-23 and is the highest scoring Thistle defender since Scott McCulloch notched 10 in the promotion-winning season of 2005-06. ● The 5-0 scoreline sets a brand new away-win record in the H2H between these clubs. ● 3 consecutive wins to nil is a first for the season, and means that Partick Thistle match the Scottish record for successive wins to nil in the play-offs in any given season. 3-in-a-row was only ever achieved by Cove Rangers in 2018-19. No team has ever kept 4 clean-sheets in any given campaign. ● Partick Thistle match the Scottish record for successive wins in the play-offs in any given season. 4-in-a-row was first achieved by Cove Rangers (2018-19) then Kelty Hearts (2021-22). ● Ian McCall/Kris Doolan's Jags become the 6th highest scoring Thistle team of all-time, now with 98 goals in all competitions 2022-23. It's the highest tally since Davie McParlands's Jags hit 100 goals in 1970-71. You can compare all seasons in our sortable results tables. ● We thought Alan Archibald's 1 defeat in 21 competitive matches would never be seen again at the start of a Partick Thistle manager's reign, but Kris Doolan is having a right good go with 1 defeat in 17 and counting… ongoing sequences: ● 7 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 7 games; 20th Mar 2021 to 29th Apr 2021. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.) ● 10 competitive games without defeat, 1st Apr 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 10 games, 10th Apr 2013 to 16th Aug 2013. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.) ● 50 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: James Penrice - 51 games, 7th Sep 2019 to 10th Apr 2021. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  11. Nothing done. We'd want to be thorough and absolute, and this sounds like a lot of hard work, so going to have to pass on this one.
  12. Yes! At 348 days ('All Games') it's going to break the existing record by 10 days and at 330 days ('Competitive') it's going to break the existing record by 4 days. You'll find this in the 'lists' page in 'club records' section... Record season lengths →
  13. Another 25 seasons of reserves has been uploaded to the Archive for your interest, from 1899-00 to 1923-24. There's lots to explore… click on any season to do so (itallics = no matches found/played) enjoy! 1875-76 1876-77 1877-78 1878-79 1879-80 1880-81 1881-82 1882-83 1883-84 1884-85 1885-86 1886-87 1887-88 1888-89 1889-90 1890-91 1891-92 1892-93 1893-94 1894-95 1895-96 1896-97 1897-98 1898-99 1899-00 1900-01 1901-02 1902-03 1903-04 1904-05 1905-06 1906-07 1907-08 1908-09 1909-10 1910-11 1911-12 1912-13 1913-14 1914-15 1915-16 1916-17 1917-18 1918-19 1919-20 1920-21 1921-22 1922-23 1923-24 Some of the key moments so far… 1876-77 - The first-known reserves match is played versus Partick Ramblers. 1877-78 - 11 reserve fixtures uncovered, including the first win, a 4-0 success over the Paperstainers of Whiteinch. 1877-78 - P. Buchan and R. McFedries the first-known scorers in a 2-0 win over Surrey in the Queen's Park. 1879-80 - Thistle's first-ever match at Firhill!!! 1879-80 - The first known reserves match versus an opponent who still exist. 1882-83 - The first competitive fixture is also the first Scottish (2nd XI) Cup match, only the second season of the tournament itself. 1883-84 - The first competitive win is achieved, and it's in the Scottish (2nd XI) Cup. 1883-84 - 17-year-old Willie Paul makes an early mark with a hat-trick over Partick. 1886-87 - The record victory is set. 1887-88 - Two trips to England! 1888-89 - A trip to Ireland! 1897-98 - Reserves reach the Scottish (2nd XI) Cup final. 1898-99 - The first-ever "League" (Scottish Federation) season, but a one-off for a number years. 1905-06 - The second Scottish (2nd XI) Cup final. 1909-10 - The first reserves match at the Stadium of Dreams, good old Queen's Park the visitors. 1910-11 - Now settled in Maryhill, Thistle take part (for the first time) in the second edition of the newly reformed Scottish Reserve League. 1911-12 - The third Scottish (2nd XI) Cup final and the reserves become the first Partick Thistle side to play "home and home" as the two-legged "home and away" ties were initially described! 1911-12 - Partick Thistle FC become the champions of Scotland, winning the Scottish Reserve League with 2 games to spare. 10,000 watch the vital win at Ibrox. 1913-14 - The first Cup is won as Thistle defeat Rangers 2-0 in the Glasgow (2nd XI) Cup final. 1919-20 - After 4 seasons of abeyance, reserves football is back in the Thistle calendar, the Scottish Reserve League being renamed the Scottish Alliance. 1920-21 - Reserves exit to Rangers at the Quarter Final stage of the Scottish (2nd XI) Cup. 4 weeks later, the first eleven would take revenge!
  14. ^ Thanks folks, always good to know you're reading; the stats are certainly enjoyable reading at the moment! ⚽
  15. Brilliant post Denis, and this really stands out. Do you still have this amazing gem of a recording? If so, we'd really love to put it on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. Hugh Strachan (1939-2023) R.I.P. At 32, he was the oldest Jag on the pitch in the 1971 cup winning team and, sadly, he's the first of the gang to die. Hugh expertly marshaled the young lions, both as a player and a coach. We'll still be talking about him in 2071 and beyond. Hugh Strachan → Denis McQuade, HUGH STRACHAN and Alex Rae made their competitive debuts together at Annfield Park in August 1970. Hugh scored his one and only goal that day! He would give no further cause for concern for netting manufacturers in his 4 years at the club, but more than played his part. With his "one goal wonder" status, Hugh featured at #11 in our countdown Ye'll No' Believe Who Scored It! →
  16. At the current count we have 22,613 goals covered (for and against) in legitimate PTFC first-team matches. In the vast majority of instances we've visited these goals painstakingly one by one. Often, several papers are opened and scrutinized to try and get to the truth. Everytime there's a contemporary discrepancy we write a "Dubious Goals Panel" report entry and appoint it truthfully as best we can per the contemporary evidence. These reports feature at the bottom of the match hub in question and you'll see the entry for the Inverness goal in question if you navigate to it. Beyond that, we also list each and every goal, one by one, for each and every player and you'll see Brian Graham's 55 goals listed if you navigate to his page. We can only hope that anyone researching Thistle goals references the Thistle Archive, where all the work has been done to the nth degree. We care a lot about it and we're very proud of our work. Yes, it's kinda distressing to be out of sync with the club, but we did try and make contact on the matter and received no reply, so it's not for the want of trying!
  17. Just as a matter of interest, listened back to Ian McCall's post-match interview there on Jagzone, they knew the score in the dressing room anyway... https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-tv/inverness-ct-reaction-ian-mccall-9th-february-2022/ "Brian scored a couple of good goals, the first one I think was an own goal... I know the first one was an own goal, but Tiffoney was magnificent at it, Docherty was as well."
  18. The bottom line is that Brian Graham didn't score a hat-trick at Inverness. As the video evidence shows, the ball bypassed him completely and Wallace Duffy thumped the ball home - the own goal is blatantly obvious.
  19. Brian Graham to the half-century and beyond, now up there with Johnny MacKenzie! All the post-Ayr updates now in place at the Archive → RAMPANT ● The attendance of 7,012 is the largest non Old-Firm Thistle crowd at Firhill since 7,122 bore witness to an insipid play-off defeat to Livingston almost 5 years to the day. ● For the first time since 2006 (when Thistle were promoted via the play-offs) Thistle have scored in SEVEN consecutive first halves. ● Incredibly, it's now 10 direct goal involvements in his last 8 games for the rampant Scott Tiffoney. ● With his first goal of the night Brian Graham becomes the 46th Jag to hit the 50 competitive goals milestone. A magnificent achievement in just over 3 years at the club. ● Kris Doolan's Jags have now scored two or more goals in six consecutive competitive matches. You need to rewind to February 2000 to find a longer run (7, by John Lambie's boys). ● With his second goal of the night Brian Graham becomes the first Jag since (promotion winning) Mark Roberts in 2005-06 to hit the TWENTY competitive goals mark in any given season. He's the only the 4th Jag to hit that mark within the 40 most recent seasons. ● Now with 8 goals against Ayr United, the talismanic Brian Graham needs just one more to become the club's all-time joint-highest scorer against the Honest Men, with John Torbet and Johnny Ballantyne currently sitting on 9 apiece. ● Kris Doolan becomes just the second Thistle manager in history to begin his tenure unbeaten in 7 competitive games in Maryhill. The impressive club-record was set in 2013 when Alan Archibald began his managerial tenure with 11 unbeaten games at Firhill. ● Partick Thistle become the first club to win three successive games in the Premiership play-offs in any given season. ● With 11 goals already, Partick Thistle become the highest scoring club in the Premiership play-offs of any given season. The previous record (9) was held by Dundee United in 2016-17. ongoing sequences: ● 7 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 7 games; 20th Mar 2021 to 29th Apr 2021. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.) ● 9 competitive games without defeat, 1st Apr 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 9 games, 15th Oct 2021 to 4th Dec 2021. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.) ● 49 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: James Penrice - 51 games, 7th Sep 2019 to 10th Apr 2021. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  20. Most of the post-QP updates now in place, including 3 very cool video options, via The Thistle Archive → FOR LAWRENCE DOOLAN ● Fittingly, in the 9th minute, the red-n-yell army raised a banner in support of Kris Doolan with a minute's applause for his late father (Lawrence Doolan, died 11th May 2023). Doolan: “He was a big Partick Thistle fan just like me. Nobody wants to see us do well more than me or him. He followed us everywhere when I played, he wanted me here tonight. He would be proud of the players and the club because everyone has come together.” ● Brian Graham registers his 18th competitive goal of the season, the highest tally since Kris Doolan did likewise in 2010-11. ● Kyle Turner registers his 12th assist of 2022-23, the highest tally of any Thistle player in the last 10 seasons. ● It's now an amazing 9 direct goal involvements in his last 7 games for the electric Scott Tiffoney. He becomes the second Jag to hit double figures in the goals department this term. ● Jack McMillan registers his 11th assist of the season. As it stands, only Kyle Turner (12) has delivered more in any one of the last 10 seasons. ● With his 8th goal of the season, Kevin Holt looks certain to finish as Thistle's top scoring defender in 2022-23. 3 of his goals have came against Queen's Park! ● The 26-goal aggregate between these two clubs in 2022-23 is the largest total in competitive H2H's since 1969-70 when Thistle and St Johnstone shared 27 goals between them. The club-record (31) was set vs. Celtic in 1968-69. ● Thistle score 4 for the third game in a row versus Queen's Park, a feat only ever seen once in the H2H, way back in 1946. ● These sides have went 43 years without a draw against each other, an unlikely 23-game run. ● There's never been a draw between Thistle and Owen Coyle as opposition manager. 6 Thistle wins have been offset by 10 defeats. ● Big congratulations are in order to the free-flowing class of 2022-23. With 90 goals in all competitions, they currently sit as the second highest scoring Thistle team of the last 40 seasons, second only to the 96-goal vintage of 2012-13. ● In 2006, Partick Thistle became the first Scottish club to finish 4th and win promotion. The Jags now become the first 4th placed club to win a Premiership play-off tie. An institution like no other. ongoing sequences: ● 6 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. 21. No, but agree that'd make for a good list page in its own right. Do-able but very time consuming. TTA can't cope with workload as it stands, so it's unlikely it'll be tackled.

To win promotion in 2023 (W16 D9 L11 - spooky!) they'll need to become the first again to do it at Premiership level. ● For the first time in season 2022-23, Thistle field the same starting eleven in three successive matches. ● It's 3 goals in the last 2 games at Firhill for Kyle Turner. 18 direct goal involvements for the season for the #6. ● Jack McMillan nets his first goal since August, which also came against Queen's Park. ● Kris Doolan's Jags concede in the opening 45 at Firhill for the very first time after 5 previous shut-outs. ● With his assists brace, it's now a brilliant 8 direct goal involvements in his last 6 games for the on-form Scott Tiffoney. ● It's 10 direct goal involvements for Aidan Fitzpatrick in 2022-23 (5 assists and 5 goals). ● The appearance of Lee Hodson, provider of the match-winning assist, breaks the run of five consecutive games in which all Partick Thistle appearances were attributed to Scotsmen. ● Lee Hodson becomes the 19th Jag to register a competitive assist in 2022-23. There's been no higher spread in the 10 seasons that we've been recording assists data, the figure matching the tally of 2019-20. ● FINALLY… at the 7th attempt, 125 years after the first, Partick Thistle have their first-ever home win in a League play-off match. ● The rarely seen 4-3 win has only occurred on 4 occasions in nearly 40 years; vs. Queen's Park (2023), vs. Forfar Athletic (2008), vs. Alloa athletic (2005) & vs. Stranraer (2001). ● Thistle score 4 for the second game in a row versus Queen's Park, a feat last seen in 1946. ● These sides have went 43 years without a draw against each other, an unlikely 22-game run. ● There's never been a draw between Thistle and Owen Coyle as opposition manager. 5 Thistle wins have been offset by 10 defeats. ● Kris Doolan's Jags remain unbeaten in Maryhill, now 6 games in. Such a run has only been bettered once in Thistle history - in 2013 when Alan Archibald began his managerial tenure brilliantly, going 11 unbeaten at Firhill. ongoing sequences: ● 6 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. 23. No, we're long past conundrums for stats with a policy for everything! Under SPFL rules, once the Leagues are tallied that's it. There are no more points to be won. League play-offs are a separate competition. See our full competitive history sorted by tournament: http://thethistlearchive.net/results-summary-tournaments For example, you can finish second in your League Cup group and go on to beat the team above in the League Cup final. And if you were to classify play-off games as League games, how would it work in the final? Would, say, Kilmarnock be playing a Championship game or would Thistle be playing a Premiership game? No conundrums - just an interesting asterisk and, more importantly, a good bragging rights comeback if you're caught by a Spider in the pub!

Most of the post-Raith updates are in place on the Archive, still managing to include a video for all 49 games so far, home page news → A COSTLY DRAW ● Jack McMillan completes the 2022-23 League season as an ever-present for Partick Thistle, with 36 appearances. He's the first to do so since James Penrice and Blair Spittal, both of whom registered the feat in 2018-19. ● Goalkeeper David Mitchell hits a new personal best of 10 consecutive competitive appearances for Thistle. ● Darren Brownlie scores his first League goal for Partick Thistle. ● Bizarrely, Thistle have only conceded 3 penalties in the League all season, with Raith Rovers being the beneficiaries on 3 separate occasions! ● It's 6 direct goal involvements in his last 5 games for the on-form Scott Tiffoney. ● For the fifth consecutive game, all Partick Thistle appearances are attributed to Scottish-born players. It's the longest stretch since a run of 6-in-a-row from 11th January 2011 to 12th February 2011. ● Thistle go 8 competitive away games without a win at Stark's Park (2011 to date), the worst run since the H2H record (12) was set in 1927. ● The lack of a winning goal cost the club £150,000 in prize money, this being the difference between finishing second (£475,000) and fourth (£325,000). ● It's been a season of missed opportunities for Thistle as Dundee become the worst second tier champions in Scottish football history. The points-per-game ratio (1.75) of the Dens Park club falls below Ayr United's ratio of 1912-13 (1.808) when 3 pts per win are applied across all eras. ● For the first time since 1935. Queen's Park finish above Partick Thistle in the League. The two sides will now meet in the play-offs on Tuesday night at Firhill. ● Kris Doolan finishes as the top Championship manager in terms of points earned per game. His total (1.85 ppg) is ahead of 2nd placed Gary Bowyer of Dundee (1.75 ppg). Doolan's predecessor, Ian McCall (1.43 ppg), was well off the pace this season in 7th. Paul Hartley (0.59 ppg) was an outstanding disaster, marooned at the bottom. ongoing sequences: ● 5 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date.
