Hip Hip Hooray For Jordanhill School ?

Am I the only one surprised by the official website congratulating Jordanhill school in the Independent School cup?

i haven't seen any other mentions of other school events. Think of how many glasgow city council schools serve the Maryhill area? Why choose an "opt out" school to mention?

When i got to the final of the firhill cup, our outstanding player was a goalkeeper from Ruchill. And he was a Primary 7 pupil in a local school!

What next? Let's congratulate Eton school for winning the inter house debating society trophy?

Rather than complain about the fact Jordabhill opt out school have been mentioned in the official site, we should realise that recognition of any form of success could be mentioned if we approach Thistle.

The club were good enough to send representatives to my children's sumner fair, including a couple of young players and the championship trophy, 2 years ago. I would suggest that if we want something recognised, contact the club. That gas obviously been the reason the article is on the official site. And it connects communities with the club.

The official Partick Thistle website should be about, what? any sporting success within the greater Glasgow area? The official website should provide information about Thistle, not 'community activities' that have nothing to do with the club. And I don't think we should be asked to celebrate the success of a school in the 'Independant Schools Cup'. In what conceivable world is that relevant to Partick Thistle?

Whilst it is a strange article - and seems to almost reflect the incorrect but historical (and media inspired) middle-class/luvvy image of the club. It also appears to be in contrast to the recent "not so cuddly" mantra being peddled by the club.

My late father told me of his sports days for NKS held at Firhill (it was in the 30s) and there did seem to be a real, genuine and geographical link in that instance. Of course NKS is no more so I suppose any link to a school would be a good thing - perhaps better for a more local (and perhaps more typical) school.

I'm more amazed to find that Jordanhill play football. Thought it was rugger thru and thru.

I've no objection to the official site posting the bizarre but I feel that the more irregular visitor to the site might have missed the Stevie Lawless re-signs notice. That in turn aids a prime objective, selling STs and early sales at that.

It's a school with Thistle connections which did well in a football tournament. Well done Jordanhill Secondary. A school with a very good educational and sporting pedigree. More schools in Glasgow should be like this.

What? Focused on producing university entrants from comfortable middle class backgrounds? Boclair Academy just won the Scottish Cup at under 16 level with two Thistle Development players in the team. Where's the mention of that? Or is that too 'ordinary' to get featured?

My brother played for a Jordanhill team that won some Glasgow Schools trophy about 5 or 6 years ago which was quite a big deal for them at the time. Ziggy Gordon was also on that team, which may have gone some way to explaining how they won, but yeah, Jordanhill do play football in addition to rugby these days.

I woke up to several texts from a drunk St Mirren fan who loves this forum. Sad but true. He wishes his mob had similar and that the chat was of a decent standard(?). One of his texts featured expressions like: cappuccino, wine bars, Byres Road, dilettante, beret wearing pseudos, champagne socialists... and all in the one sentence. What school does he teach at? I won't say but this clearly touched a raw nerve. As he said in closing: "leave the weans alone!"

I'm all for the club promoting community causes and schools, I just think it should be on the twitter feed and not the website

in my experience of running a secondary school (yep) all the publicity and links you can get are essential

as a jags fan, stick ALL these kind of things on the twitter - that is the fairest way for all schools and local community things.

Having one school on the webite may look elitist.

out of likes, but these two posts hit bullseye.

as an aside, the fact two development players played for boclair, indicates thistle are possibly (and thankfully) not one of the clubs referred to in this herald article .....
