The Colin Weir Stand

Now would be a good time to remember that Jimmy Gibson’s transfer money paid for the auld stand away back in the 1920s, a deal which was brokered by the father of Firhill, George Easton, a man who devoted almost all of his adult life to the Jags cause.

I’m sure Mr Weir will understand when I win the lottery, thank him for his valued support, return his cash to him, and re-name her more worthily, the George Easton Stand.

Still, in the meantime, at least we’re no’ the Tony Macaroni Arena, eh?

Seem to have been very sensable with the way they have handled such a big fortune. Sounds like its invested in such a way that the core £160 million never really gets dented. Good news for us, The Waverley, Largs Thistle and the many other local causes they support.

Does Colin go to games and have a season ticket for a seat in the Jackie? Or does he have to sit in the Colin Weir stand with the directors.

If hedoes need anonimty at the games there,s a big yellow suit available Colin :D

Great news and well deserved. The way they have invested in the club has been first class. They didn't just roll up and hand over £2 million they have clear discussed with the club where their money would be best invested and thus we have a superb youth academy and are debt free, we couldn't have asked for any more.

I can't believe that people on other social media platforms are complaining about this, it really is a joke.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Although I agree the contribution the Weirs have made to Thistle is fantastic, is becoming a patron and having the youth academy named after them/him not enough?

Perhaps it's a sweetner to keep the cash rolling in!

Anyway, just a thought.

I hope they continue to give the great backing for years to come.

Time to blow the dust and cobwebs off an old post.

# Davie McParland played in 593 games for the club (his only senior club) scoring 111 goals in the process.

# He holds the record for most appearances for an outfield player and is 2nd only to Alan Rough.

# Between November 1961 and Christmas Day 1965 he played in 206 consecutive competitive matches (missing only 2 friendlies in that spell).

# Most importantly of all he brought us the first major trophy for 50 years.

The North stand has no name. Surely he is a worthy candidate?

And an absolute gentleman into the bargain.

100% agreement.
