I think most people will take Mandela over Nietzsche .... in fact most people would take anyone over Hitlers  favourite philosopher ... nice insight about you though

My suggestion would be for everyone to go back, re-read WJs posts and have a sleep on it.

Think it's just too raw this evening - this vitriolic pish does the Thistle family no favours.

I'm off to Fife on Wednesday for a week's holiday so hopefully the WiFi is shite in my rented wheelie bin & I'll be spared this nonsense.

You want us to read them again ? All of them. That will take till October

Why support thistle then? Hope by in large is what keeps us coming back. Certainly in my 50 years of supporting the team. And for the record I still have hope that thistle will turn this objectionable decision around.

Self-loathing, masochism, habit and Chris Erskine, for the most part.

Exactly. Hope is what destroys us!

The statement from Hearts and Thistle strongly suggests this isn't being revisited in the courts. If they were considering an appeal we'd have expected language to that effect (IMO).

Statement from Hearts tonight... wonder if JL will release one too.

"

By now, most of you will know that the SFA Arbitration Panel has found against us in our “unfair prejudice” challenge, following the relegation of Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer, as a consequence of the early termination of Season 2019/20.

For those of us involved throughout this process, sadly once again, we cannot say we are totally surprised at the outcome, despite firmly believing in the power of the arguments and evidence we put forward.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our legal team, who despite the result, were quite simply first-class. They acknowledged from the outset that this would be an uphill battle, but nonetheless it was a battle we felt we had to fight. We could not simply sit back and accept the unfairness that was being meted out to us.

What has been allowed to happen in Scottish football, where fellow member clubs and our governing bodies have stood back and allowed totally disproportionate financial damage to be imposed on 3 of its members, can only be described as shameful… as indeed, should the SPFL’s recent self-congratulatory statement.

For too long, Chairmen and Owners have stood on the sidelines bemoaning the decision-making processes, the perceived lack of leadership, the lack of commercialism; the general shortcomings, as they see it, of Scottish football. However, if they really want things to change, it will take more than words. They will have to stand-up and be counted.

We tried to do just that. Unfortunately, the very fact that we tried and lost, will cause many others to be even more wary. I can hear them now... “You can’t fight the rules; you can’t fight the establishment; we must support the centre.” Sadly, I see little cause for optimism that things will improve any time soon in Scottish football. I hope I am wrong.

My rant is over for now. While frustrated, disappointed and angry with much that has gone on over the last 4 months, we must now move forward.

We will suffer serious financial losses as a consequence of losing this particular battle but we will survive and we will come through this stronger than ever. We have suffered a series of blows over recent months, but our spirit has never been stronger. We will continue to run our Club with honesty, transparency and integrity. These are the values we have always adhered to and we will continue to keep them front and centre of everything we do.

We will also lead with strong financial management and importantly, with confidence. We look forward, once again, to celebrating a successful year, culminating in winning the Championship and getting back to where we belong. Robbie has done it before and with your support, we can make this a year to remember for the right reasons as well as the wrong.

I make these statements, confident in the support I know we will have from our incredible fans and sponsors. The messages of support that I, personally, have received throughout this enormously difficult period have been absolutely amazing. Let me say “thank you” to each and every one of you. I am sorry we did not win this battle but as we all know, it is winning the war that counts."

Oh to be clear I think they should explain, up-front, in detail and in full who has paid for:

(a) our own direct legal costs in preparation for and in Court

(b) the costs award made against us in Court

(c) our own legal costs in relation to the arbitration

(d) any costs awarded against us at arbitration

(e) any costs, fees or fines falling due as a result of the SFA's disciplinary action next week.

And I think they should do so as soon as possible.

What I am saying is that I predict this level of transparency (for whatever reason) won't be forthcoming, and that we will therefore only find out as fans once the Annual Accounts for this year have found their way onto Companies House.

I disagree re the "soon as possible" I don't think the club should make any such statement as this time.

We should keep quiet until after the SFA hearing and the outcome is known.  If there is a need for a full financial disclosure related to legal costs that will be a more appropriate time.

My wife's family on her father's side come from the East Neuk. Such happy memories. Her uncle used to take me to see East Fife and we used to go to the Boardroom at hafh time and full time for snacks and drinks. Happy days!

If you take a slight detour you might stop off  at Starks Park and show your Jags colours!

Colin McAdam was our penalty king.  Usually hard, straight down the middle.  I'm sure keepers used to dive out of the road of his thunderbolts.

I'd love to have a young, physical Colin in the team next season, dishing it out!  Ah, wishful thinking!!

Colin was in the team of my earliest Thistle memories.

Can't believe we got enough pens to have a penalty king.

Thanks

Cotter

I think I get this.

'Alexithymia is the inability to express emotions or to understand others' emotions'

WJ, due to the nature of his job, perhaps, is looking at the probable outcome only.

Despite his love of Thistle, he can't see past that outcome. - sorry about the Bold text, can't switch off.

The rest of us feel the pain from an unjust decision from an unregulated shower of shite and only want one thing, a fair result.

Looking back, we can all now agree that this was as likely as Thistle ever having a player described as a 'Penalty King'.

Time will move on but I will never forget this day, ever!

Being a Thistle fan, I've felt cheated on many occasions but this really takes the biscuit.

There will now be two celebrations after each win;

1. Our victory

2. The defeat of our rivals

The decision wasnt “ unjust” it was the correct decision within the rules / this whole victim myth being peddled by the Club is simply a deflection strategy

There might be value in everyone drawing breath for a second.

Woodstock Jag is not responsible for Thistle sitting bottom of the league when the league was called.

He's not responsible for the failure to reconstruct the leagues, the failure to win in the Court of Session or the fact that arbitration didn't go our way.

He stated, forcefully and repeatedly (boy did he repeat his view) that our legal approach was destined to fail.

He was proven right.

A lot of the anger right now is misplaced in his direction.

Meantime Woodstock Jag could perhaps give thought to how he is coming across right now.

Is this the right place and time for this apparent level of triumphalism? That might be the reason for the vitriol coming his way.

Given some of the abuse he took because he applied reasoned legal logic and gave detailed and  exhaustive arguements against an onslaught of personalised emotive tripe / then I think he is entitled to his GIRUY moment - as for the posters who attempted to belittle his day job - all I can say is we do have some very dense people in our fan base

the Focus should be on - a statement from the Club confirming all cost including other parties were included in our budget / as £100K seems light

Thank you admin a lot of sense here. However WJ could help by putting his  points of view, assessments and summaries across factually and  forcefully but with politeness, courtesy, good manners and respect for others!

It's unfortunate that the debate around the many knowledgeable and valuable contributions from WJ was about the manner in which they were made. This, to some extent, distracted attention from the substantive content!

Forums are about opinions. Posters will disagree but surely it can't hurt to be  polite and show respect!

Be interested to know where it says within the rules that you call the league with a 1/4 of the season to go and teams like ourselves who haven’t even had the parity of playing the same amount of games as the rest get relegated.
Nobody should have been penalised in the midst of a global pandemic .

Doncaster’s celebratory statement says it all , was unbelievably crass and lacked any class at all .

I think it’s easy to say that’s not a preferred outcome. And who could disagree with that or think it’s anything but unfair.
but you also need to articulate what the genuine reasonable alternative would be. Every alternative seems to me to have flaws. And that’s the difficulty here - someone was going to lose out. It’s terrible that it is us. But if we had won any game in 2020 it wouldn’t have been us and perhaps we would have been arguing the other way rather than wanting that particular team to face Falkirk in a play off?!
