You don’t know presumably or you would say

but your strategy of doing nothing is a bit mad

There is no end game to this , no guarantee of a vaccine etc , the governments could carry on like this for years and years to the capitulation of our Society, you’re just not talking about the here and now , you’re talking about generations to come trying to pick up the pieces of a wiped out Society.

Not sure your reasoning here, cancer (and other) screenings were postponed during the initial lockdown, not only UK but else where. A key factor to over coming cancer is early detection, if screening stops that can’t happen.

In the 1st phase of this, decks were cleared, for anticipated pressure on NHS. The reason it didn’t happen was down to the lockdown ie no social contact.
The restrictions on social contact are again to try and avoid NHS being overrun with the combination of flu/Covid, and hopefully allow other procedures to go ahead.

Fairly simple really

No I wouldn’t, but we are becoming a nanny state, I believe society will have to be re opened before the economic disaster gets any worse.

If any person feels comfortable to go about their daily lives then that should be absolutely fine , if they’re concerned about their health or have underlying health conditions and feel uncomfortable going about their business that should also be fine .

It should be the individual’s choice in how they deal with the situation.

This post demonstrates that you have no idea about the virus. If you meet anyone, it’s not just a risk you are taking, you are risking everybody else you come into contact with.

And your solution is ? with no vaccine on the horizon and there may never be is to carry on and close down society.

After years there is no vaccine for SARS, it took decades to come up with one for flu, but that’s only one strain at a time, small pox took 100’s of years to eradicate using a virus. None of these caused mass lockdowns or impacts to our freedoms like we have seen for last 6 months.
This current situation cannot run for years or society as we know it is finished, family units broken, economy ruined, mass unemployment like nothing we’ve seen, hospitality sector gone, professional sporting events ended for good. If this goes for say another year the above will happen. You may be secure enough with funds/pension that it may not affect you to badly, but anyone under 55 with a mortgage reliant on their job is going to be devastated if this keeps going, not to mention the teenagers leaving schools into a decimated jobs market, and no government can continue to pay furlough for another year. Theses businesses won’t open again as demand has gone and consumer spend has dropped. This could also apply to Scottish football if leagues mothball for a season

Ok so it’s my right if I choose to infect other people and possibly kill them but I don’t have any rights to stop other people killing me ..... it’s a virus ffs......pure trumpism

Yes this has happened in the past with strikingly similar selfish behaviour ....

So what’s the level of acceptable deaths so you can go to the pub after 10pm ?

There will be a vaccine probably 3 or 4 early next year

Not sure about that , but to make any vaccine effective you’ve got to persuade 70% of the population to take it .

Reality is that’s going to be a hard sell as no one knows the effects of a vaccine over a period of time , see the thalidomide drug as an example

You (and MSM) stated 6 month ago a vaccine by October, there will not be a fully workable and fully tested for a year at least, then it needs rolling out. Fast tracking a vaccine without all the controls and testing that is normally done is potentially worse than the disease

Why has Hospitality been singled out with only a 5% transmission rate , why not any other sectors, think most people realised when schools and Universities opened this would happen.

Hospitality has been open since the start of July at a lot of expense , a lot more expense than for instance retail shops where there is no track and trace .

Hospitality is a convenient scapegoat.

Your a joy.....

actually different vaccines have levels of population requirements from 50% to 90% +

it will not be a hard sell at all

There was no national lockdowns then, closing pubs at 10 (2 hours early) makes no difference, it actually increases the congestion at taxi and bus queues.

Your OK for 10’s of thousands to lose jobs with the issues that will cause? Businesses to close? Kids to miss out on one or 2 years of education? Old people to be alone for months or years on end?

Ok I guess you work in hospitality .....( btw that 5% figure is misleading )

It’s not complicated science tells you that viruses travel easier in indoor confined spaces eg pubs and house parties and research has shown bars are the number spreader

from bbc article on Spanish flu ( just so you know )

There was no centrally imposed lockdown to curb the spread of infection, although many theatres, dance halls, cinemas and churches were closed, in some cases for months.

What’s your acceptable level of people dying through the impacts of restrictions?

Late screening for cancer causing deaths

People not catching issues early as they don’t go to doctors

Suicide and alcoholism deaths due to issues caused by jobs loss, families breaking up, kids having no future

Older generation giving up due to no contact with family or being left alone in care homes as visits can’t happen
