Every match, every birthday, every day... worth checking in to see the daily happenings, keep the Archive home page bookmarked! Somewhat ambitiously, we're trying to keep up with adding extra bios for all born OTD on a daily basis, with 9th October boys Zubar, MacKinnon & Smith all going in today. Willie Smith recently featured as goalie in the Brechin video from '56.

We remember today half-back WILLIE HAMILTON who played in every round of our Scottish Cup odyssey of 1921 bar the final. The first of the gang to die, Willie succumbed to his TB illness exactly 4 months after the cup was won.

Haha, Declan Roche looks like he knows something that we don't.

Re the sending offs against us. With the obvious exceptions of Draper and Imrie there's been no real "pantomime villains* red carded since the "Alex Rae" season. We don't seem to have the like of Rae, Lovering, Novo, Hartley, Jimmy Gibson etc getting the jotters these days. Can't even think of anyone in our league at present that could be elevate to the rank of "Player We All Love to Hate". Maybe Simon Murray but he's not really a very good villain.

As an aside one of the classiest sending offs against us in recent years was that of Mark McLaughlin, the ex Hamilton captain . He is a legend with Accies fans and was playing his last ever game for Hamilton. He managed to get carded with about 15 minutes remaining. Got showered and changed and was in the Accies Bar at Peacock Cross before 5pm buying drinks for fans as they entered the premises. Classy.

Love it! Will keep this in mind if the list turns into  a 'Partickle'.  ;)

Talking of ON THIS DAY, born 11th October 1880 was the legendary JIMMY McMENEMY who, at 40-year-old, inspired Thistle to Scottish Cup glory in 1921. His winners medal sold for an incredible £6,300 and, today, it becomes the 10th item to find a place in the Archive Museum. Which, thankfully, is virtual, and therefore we've saved a small fortune.

What a terrific read. Thanks to The Thistle Archivists.

But, have I missed something here?:

"Trivia fans may be pleased to know that, as current knowledge has it, India is the third-known country (after Scotland & Northern Ireland) to have birthed a Jag."

Surely England must be in there? Or, have I indeed failed to understand?

It's true, debut-dates-wise we go from John Hendry (Northern Ireland) in 1879 to James Ward (India) in 1881 to Tom Maley (England) in 1884. Then a long gap to Maurice Parry (Wales) in 1909.

Got it, thanks!

Third in chronological order, not in overall order.

Note to self: Think harder!

:detective:  HISTORY REPEATING

 ● For only the 4th time in history, Thistle repeat an away League fixture, exactly one year on. The only previous occurrences were at Rangers (2-Jan-1909), Rangers (2-Jan-1930) and Celtic (20-Dec-2017). All repeats have ended with the same outcome as the year before! What's more, in the latest case, goals from Brian Graham & Scott Tiffoney ensured the win on both occasions, making for a very unique stat in Thistle history.
 ● With Kyle Turner being suspended, Jack McMillan and Steven Lawless become the last two standing in terms of a 100% competitive appearance record this season.
 ● Brian Graham scores his 38th competitive goal for Partick Thistle, and this matches his previous best at any other club, set with Raith Rovers 2011-2013.
 ● Scott Tiffoney has scored for Thistle in 3 consecutive away games at New Douglas Park.
 ● Aaron Muirhead and Ross Docherty get on the assists chart for the season, bringing the player spread to 14. The greatest spread since records began (19) was set in 2019-20.
 ● Thistle go 4 without defeat at New Douglas Park, 20th July 2019 to date.

 ongoing sequences:
 ● 8 competitive home games without defeat; 19th Jul 2022 to date. (Longest run since: 8 games; 3rd Mar 2020 to 5th Dec 2020. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.)
 ● 16 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan (a new personal best) & Steven Lawless, 9th Jul 2022 to date. (Longest run since: Kyle Turner - 16 games, 6th May 2022 to 7th Oct 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Still trying to add 'Bio Extras' for those born on a daily basis. If anyone fancies writing for any favourite player not yet covered then please get in touch. Born OTD 1875 was WILLIAM WALLACE and his entry is a cracker!

Not the last time we would pip Morton to a title as well. :happy2:

Wow, that's some record, which many of us on here must have seen unfold before our disbelieving eyes.

Hard to imagine that being bettered these days!

I’m guessing the game before 5th May was the QOS/Cassidy game? If so I think we must have been on a run before that because we didn’t lose many at home that season

Why guess, 2 secs to look it up. From our top bar select matches then 2000-01 and you're there...

Would have been more than 40 if they hadn't taken their foot off the gas!

12 minutes of a 25 minute 'Current Account' episode is available to view at the BBC Archive, rejoice! Largely filmed 30-Oct-1976 (Thistle 2 Rangers 1) although footage of the game is sadly blacked out. Unmissable, click link below!

Until I looked at the content, I thought you meant the pyrotechnic version of flares!

Great to see the late great Thistle men - Bertie Auld; Ian Archer and Brian ( Not Jackie) Whittaker.

A great obituary in the Celtic Wiki for Brian.

Definitley not the pyrotechnic type, the trouser type.

Agree re the late greats.

Just add some of that content nearly x rated. Keep your shorts on when the camera's are about.

CONFIRMED: 148 unbroken seasons of Partick Thistle FC!

Our young club fell off the radar in 1876-77 but - at long, long last - we've found not one, but TWO first-team matches, both in the dying embers of that second season. The two games - away to Partick Ramblers & Smithfield - are now databased and the match hubs accessible via the 1876-77 page →

Since the 'Official History' book in excess of 200 games have been found (many in competitions) but our latest two finds are the most precious of all. Not only do they give us an unbroken history, our first-known players & scorers are assigned as:

John Inglis →

Jack Beattie →

T. Brown →

Enjoy your history Jags fans, and spread the word!

Whole season of wall to wall victories without losing a goal. What's not to like?
