The Thistle Archive
19 hours ago, Tom Hosie said: Just to provide a little more detail to Brian Graham reaching the 100 competitive goal mark on Friday, it's correct that OPTA are the data source for a large number of outlets for their stats. I've attached one such example below. Others are available. Tom, there is much to be said on this important issue - we live and breathe PTFC club history at the Thistle Archive - but now is not the time. Think Jack just wanted to get that off his chest, he's frustrated (as others are at TTA), and who can blame him/us after all the work we've put in? Just to clarify a small point, he's referring to the fact that OPTA feed the SPFL, demonstrating the insignificance of the referee report in terms of scorers; we're certainly not advocating for the use of OPTA (heaven forbid, what a mess we'd be in). In an ideal world we'd have a Dubious Goals Panel in Scotland per EPL/EFL they'd have kept us all right, 100%. It would be really great if we could work together on nitty gritty issues like this as and when they arise. We have tried! Maybe we could've and should've tried harder. Hopefully we can in the future? But - for now - we're potentially 4 games away from a return to the top-flight and you're quite right to talk about being positive. Was out for a walk in the sunshine earlier with the Draw, Lose or Draw podcast in my ears, brilliant stuff. Who knows where these vibes can take us?! ~ William On 5/11/2025 at 1:23 PM, partickthedog said: That is fantastic work as always. Much appreciated. Apologies to Dario Zanatta for misjudging him. Pat Keogh was closer than I thought. The most prominent recent "Dark Lord" is obviously Robbie Muirhead, but Tommy Robson is one that has sneaked somewhat under the radar. I can remember Martin Cameron running half the length of Recreation Park (as I am sure it then was) to slot one in for Alloa, but I had not realised how frequently he had scored against us. Graham Connell was a surprise. His one goal for us was an absolute belter in what was then a shock win against Inverness. Cammy Smith has also been remarked on before on this thread. Some of the earlier high negative scorers are probably in a category we will not see again, ie those who had lengthy spells playing against us for one of the OF, and then signed up at Thistle when they were still reasonably potent. Tommy Bryce and Stuart Taylor are both more in the negative camp than I had recollected, but we can forgive Paul Ritchie due to one stat not appearing above, ie sinking the winning penalty in the play off v Peterhead. Many many thanks again! An absolute pleasure and thank you for the excellent analysis, very enjoyable! On 5/12/2025 at 10:31 AM, robphil said: MANY thanks. It was all so simple even for me. Google thistle archive and Hey Joe! There it was. As a retired journalist I fully appreciate the research involved in your amazing enterprise. You bring back so many golden memories of the 1950s and onwards. Thanks again... Thank you Rob, made my day! And thanks also for your first class match reports which grace the Archive, albeit don't think too many were uncovered. On the off chance you can lay your hands on a wee batch of them we'd be glad to add more...
jaggy
Thanks again TTA. I see both sides of the story here and tend to agree with you but we have to go with whatever club says. Hopefully the big man will score many more for us starting tonight and the number will be irrelevant. One small issue though, over the many years with little or no tv or video coverage I’m sure there must be a number of goals attributed incorrectly as there is no evidence other than a written report ? The last stat about our league finish averages really shows how we have slipped over the years. I used to think of us as being on par with teams like Kilmarnock, Motherwell and St. Mirren, sadly no longer. I hope sometime soon we can get back to the top league. We don't want to end up like Morton who are nearing 40 years since they last played in the top league.

Haha, not for me ptd. But, hey, ye know, over 800 players in need of a 'Bio Extra' entry if anyone fancies squeezing in some pop culture along the way! Operation 'Bio Extra' → Tom, we've looked again at the 5th goal vs. Edinburgh City from earlier in the season. It's good news for Dan O'Reilly, but sad to see big Waz lose his only "goal". It's the LMC Vlogs footage which clarifies. All changes have been applied in the Thistle Archive today and, as with every goal dispute in PTFC history (that we know of), our 'Dubious Goals Panel' review is written per update below: 20-Jul-2024 Edinburgh City 0 Partick Thistle 6 (League Cup Group H - game 2) → Edited May 22 by The Thistle Archive
