Over the course of the next few weeks, this 20-part serialisation, one entry per day, will celebrate the life and times of the great man. Willie Paul - The First Partick Thistle Giant → This is absolutely brilliant. Very much my cup of Bovril. It is very kind of you to do this for all us Thistle fans who are not @Auld Jag and therefore have not personally seen the great Willie Paul in action. JeanieD
Minor pedantic point - Forthcoming fixtures - we play Ross at home on the 18th not at Dingwall (although given the last two results up there, home advantage might not necessarily be to our benefit). Sorry to be such a pedant!
The Thistle Archive
Even if you read the Willie Paul story 10 years ago it's worth a second look, now even richer in detail. 1 week of daily episodes to go, Chapter 14 today is good fun! “No money rows, curmudgeonly referees or play-acting yahoos could wipe the smile from Willie Paul's face at this point, he was on top of the world.” Delve in, get to know Willie a little... 1 — A foreword 2 — The Stats: Is he the ALL-TIME HIGHEST Thistle scorer? 3 — 10 Years BT (Before Thistle) 4 — Willie arrives at Muir Park 5 — Willie who? (They’ll soon know) 6 — Scotland calling! 7 — Great cheer on the home front 8 — A Scottish record-maker 9 — A new era beckons 10 — League football arrives at Inchview – guess who scored on day 1? 11 — A return to form 12 — Thistle join the Scottish Football League – milestone man strikes again! 13 — Church bells for Willie – alarm bells for Thistle 14 — Underwood Park – a happy hunting ground

The Thistle Archive
All is revealed... Willie Paul shockingly died on this day, 1911, aged just 45, and we mark the occasion with the final part of our serialisation. His astonishing plethora of club-records, milestones and tallies was quite something – but the rise and rise of the club, his one true club, is the abiding, real and tangible legacy of Willie Paul, the first Partick Thistle giant… Willie Paul 20 — A giant legacy → 2

Fawlty Towers
Well done to our under 18s who beat their counterparts from Motherwell 3-2 in the Scottish Youth Cup last evening.
The Thistle Archive
^ Yes, an absolutely brilliant result against a horrible Motherwell side. Well chuffed for the boys, a year on from duffing up Rangers in the same round, it had a very similar feel with Danny Gray's last minute winner. A good 45 minutes in the tank for Liam Rooney too, who has been out for 7 weeks with a fracture in his toe. (whisper) it... 7 wins out of 7 in all comps for Gary Irvine's boys. Not saying it's an omen, but he coached Kilmarnock to Scottish Youth Cup glory last season! 2025-26 (Youth - Under 19s) →
Fawlty Towers
Appreciate all the match reports on the u19s, things are looking good in that department and hopefully we will see a few of these guys in the first team in the next season or two. I realise that we have said that before but I get the impression that with Wilson in charge and tight finances it seems more likely this time.
The Thistle Archive
Did you know? Thistle v Airdrie is the most hostile fixture in our calendar, with 34 red cards. The Thistle Archive
A fantastic come-from-behind win at Links Park last night keeps the winning run going, now 8-in-a-row in all comps to start the season. The Thistle Archive
Huge thanks to Jim Anderson ('Jaggernaut' of this parish) for his very generous donation of near-1000 match programmes and other bits n bobs. As an early result, we've been able to fill in missing linesmen from around 120 games, bringing us over the 2,300 mark for matches with assistant refs noted. 12 new officials into the database, and almost 200 profiles deepened a little. Over 100 of the related match hubs have been fully uploaded today in celebration, full details and links in the news below. Very much appreciated Jim! 👊 The Thistle Archive → 4

The Thistle Archive
When the nation was in need, Partick Thistle FC was one of the many clubs whose players & former players served as soldiers, sailors and airmen, and not all of them came home. 18 Jagsmen paid the ultimate price. On remembrance Sunday 2025 we commemorate them all. The Partick Thistle Fallen → 1
The Thistle Archive
Just a final word on the programmes, as Jack is pointing out, this is all strictly a non-financial arrangement, as agreed with Jim. Jack's keeping a few for his own collection and, now that they've been scrutinized for data, the huge majority are being sent to the club where they will be held as duplicates in the club collection. Most will go on resale in the programme kiosk for the benefit of the club, so being put to good use all round.
The Thistle Archive
It's been over 3 years since our 'On This Day' feature was last embedded on our home page, a technical issue with something called 'CORS' (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) blocking the script. As of last night it is 100% back, as can be via the link below. We're indebted to expat John Sinclair who got in touch a few weeks back. A coder with some 40 years experience, he took on the complex challenge of overcoming the issues which were way beyond our know-how. He's now the twelfth member of the Archive and he's going to keep an eye on us all the way from Hong Kong with any (cough cough) "5 minute" jobs that might crop up. Thank you John, and welcome onboard! The Thistle Archive →

Jaggernaut
I'd forgotten some of the old jokes... a few can still bring a smile. It's a reminder of another failed attempt at "development" at Firhill which did little other than destroy a good part of the stadium (i.e., demolishing parts of the terracing for the dug tracks)..... similar to the more recent total destruction of the city end terracing to leave us not with any kind of development, but only a bing. And as for Miller Reid's dreams of a super stadium/complex...... Edited December 4, 2025 by Jaggernaut
