lady-isobel-barnett
Bit miffed as I just missed by minutes the one and only George Smith in the hairdressers today. Was telling a story about how he had the choice to sign for us or Rangers. Chose us as the lump sum signing on fee amongst other things was excellent. Won't say the amount on here but it was indeed a huge sum back then. By all accounts George is extremely fit for his age (nearly 91). Supports what others who know him have told me. a f kincaid
Many centre-halves found George Smith's pace too hot to handle.  When the Thistle v Rangers match on 2/1/1962 was postponed, most of the players would have treated their afternoon off as a bonus - but not George. On 6/1 the "Evening Times" reported that he drove east and entered the 80-yard sprint handicap at the New Year Sprint meeting in Newtongrange.  He was beaten in his heat in a photo-finish by the eventual winner of the race whose time was 8.36 seconds. He was eventually advised  by the club to give up sprinting because he became prone to ankle injuries.
The Thistle Archive
Wow, the 1886 resurrection of Partick FC! (a one-off). We were surprised to discover another new game to the database a few days ago. Mon-21-Jun-1886 Partick Thistle 4 Partick Past 1 (Whiteinch Orphanage Benefit) →  Thank you for this amazing research. I am loving the match report. Apart from the brief mention of the score, there is no further information about the action on the pitch, but plenty of detailed moaning about everything else, from the discreditable behaviour of spectators climbing fences to gain free entry to a charity benefit match to the failure of the brass band to identify a more prominent location from which to play their popular airs. This would of course not be the last time the Govan-based press would report on the dubious resurrection of a defunct football club!

Don't understand why the SFA don't update the league table though.
The Thistle Archive
It's a pain, leading to a bit of confusion from a couple of sources. Below summary is spot-on, have double verified results via QP/SFA. It was a night of high drama indeed with Thistle winning (report in linked page) QP losing. Whatever happens next Tuesday it's been an excellent season for the youngsters, 1 to play and all to play for! 2025-26 (Youth - Under 19s) → 1
The Thistle Archive
It was 99 years ago today when he hit a world-record 5 past Rangers. His 49 competitive goals in 1926-27 is likely to be a forever club-record and his 5 goals in THAT last game of that season won Thistle the first of 10 Glasow Cups - it was a long overdue success! Today, Sandy's page is properly finalised, as befitting such a Jag. Summary totals introduced; 'Every Game' tab introduced; 'Scrapbook' tab introduced; 'Gallery' tab introduced... If I am correct apart from a game early in the season we have not really used over age players so it is a real youth team effort. Are there any players who have stood out that might make the step up next season?

Are there any players who have stood out that might make the step up next season? Very true FT. No experts at TTA in this subject, but here's some player reviews from someone who's been watching them closely: - Danny Gray has progressed to the first team squad and has also been influential all season, scoring important goals throughout the campaign and always carrying threat. Looks best as wing/forward (Right sided). - Harry Weir is a creative midfielder who can play on the front line too; excellent and assured on the ball and weighs in with goals from range. - Steven Docherty is best utilised as an attacking midfielder, but has been utilised in the holding role regularly by Gary Irvine. Aggressive, strong and a good playmaker when given the freedom to roam. - Chrissy Mackay is approaching 30 competitive goals over the last two seasons of U18s/u19s and is young enough to be eligible next season too, although is currently out on loan for development. Good hold-up and link-up play and an instinctive finisher when in the penalty box. - Harry Stanway. One for the future-future, as he is only 15 years old. However, he has looked incredibly assured and comfortable when playing with the U19s and is a natural right back.     6

Fawlty Towers
Congratulations to Queens Park u19s on winning the league, our team did their part by beating Ayr 4-0 but QP also won against Montrose to win by a point. At the moment the u17s are 3rd in their league (behind QP and Dundee) so looks like things are going well at youth level as well. The Thistle Archive
As of today, we have a change to our top navigation bar, an extremely rare occurrence! On the top bar and to the right you will now see the navigation option of 'published' which has replaced the previous 'partickles' description. In this new 'Published' section, you can now choose from 3 distinct sections of Partick Thistle storytelling. Firstly, there's our long-established 'Partickles' section (featuring original articles by The Thistle Archive & friends), secondly there is a 'Media Cuttings' section (previously known as 'Media Partickles' and housing general press & magazine pieces) and lastly a brand new section, 'Publications' where we'll be including fully digitised copies of out-of-print books, magazines, fanzines, match programmes etc etc. As an added bonus, the landing 'published' page houses a general index which, not only gives you a handy at-a-glance overview, but can link you straight to an article or publication from any of the 3 sections. We hope that you will enjoy this wider range of Thistle storytelling and find it easy to navigate your way around.

The Thistle Archive
We're aware that our website is (randomly) failing to render many of the thousands of images that visually support our work in recent days. Unfortunately, we are powerless to affect the situation, an issue with the host servers outwith our control. It's happened before and the situation usually resolves itself within a few days, so we hope that will be the case this time. It has been reported to Wikidot. Meantime, apologies that your enjoyment of the Thistle Archive is being spoiled, please bear with us.
