‘Good Faith’ means bugger all when applied to planning permission.  If the then club Directors planned on that basis they were foolish and they deserved all they got and unfortunately our ground/stadium , to this day looks a mess.
What idiot knocks down a quarter of their house on the basis of ‘ that’s alright mate you’ll be ok’, only to be told 3 months later, ‘ sorry you can’t build your extension’
Unless written and  guaranteed planning permission was received then the City end terracing shouldn’t have touched.

It's clear that others remember it differently but my take was that we were told we had permission and that the licence was 'in the post', so to speak.

Be great if someone had some real info from back then.

Many things are demolished and built with retrospective planning permission.

It's not like we were knocking down a quarter of a football stadium, that we owned, and then building a brothel.

It's a disgrace that permission was rejected.

Has this same thing happened to other clubs that have looked to improve their stadium and the immediate area?

That's right. The demolishing of the city end for a "development" (which would have left Firhill with something like a 100-seat stand where the bing now is!!) is just another in a series of PTFC fantasy developments. Others that spring to mind are Jim Oliver's 20,000 all-seater Firhill (the artists' impressions of which did look wonderful), and various PTFC training facilities, the latest unfortunately falling flat on its face after all the fanfare and publicity about it being named after Dave McParland.

Yeh do wish the club would do something else to honour Davie McParland now the training ground has went pear shaped.  Not too many of his kind will we see again in the modern game and he should be commemorated for past and future generations.
