Montrose v Partick Thistle - Saturday 28th November

Looks to me like there is a team starting to take shape. Looked to me like we were playing a 4-4-2 with Murray getting closest to Graham.

Wright looks reasonably commanding. Foster and Brownlie were very solid.

Niang wanted to attack and win every ball which is laudible but he does sometimes fall out of position in doing that. Williamson was great going forward first half but still looks weak defensively and when Montrose did threaten the gaps appeared on the right side of defence where Niang and Williamson were.

Docherty, Bannigan and Penrice are offering decent protection to the defence allowing  Cardle to not worry so much about defensive duties. Docherty dominated the midfield and in the first half knocked the ball about quite well with Bannigan.

We could still do with a faster stiker alongside Graham as we still don't have anyone capable of running in behind their defence and I suspect this is why we struggle to score lots of goals. Anyone know the latest on Rudden?

Without the speed of Rudden or direct running of Lyons we really need Murray to get closer to Graham and Cardle to get the ball in quicker to Graham.

So far I've not seen any team in this league better than us. We've lost a few points whilst trying to figure out what our best formation is and we now look like a team won't concede many however we also don't score many but perhaps that will come with confidence gained from winning.

Good result today and a big  well done to the management staff and players.  We are now in a play-off position and with Falkirk and Cove Rangers within reach! A good day all in!

To complete the first series of games we have Dumbarton & Peterhead at home with an away game at Forfar sandwiched between.

Can we get 9 points from these games to take us to 19 for first set of fixtures?  I think this must be the manager's target!

Wow - a shitey 1-0 win against a mighty giant of Scottish football.

Away to crack open the champagne.

Unfortunately this is how far we fallen over the past 3 years or so. We will need to beat teams in the league we are in, no matter what reputation they have, good or bad, if we want to get up to the Championship at least. So no matter who it is we should celebrate every game we win. All the best to you and yours BC.

Just watched the game on Jagzone and guess I'm delighted we got the 3 points we desperately needed. Still thought it was a dreadful performance. The quality of our passing and movement, which was decent last week, was way off. The lack of cutting edge up front is a huge problem.

A couple of dodgy moments in the 2nd half could've screwed us but in general the defence was solid and the main reason we left with the points. I still can't claim to be happy to be going to Montrose in the 3rd tier and their being next to nothing between the sides.

Sorry, meant to also add - not only is it in Angus but its also in Level 3.

They're talking about Elgin  ..keep up

Looked a cracking day up there going by the photos put up by Tommy and Donald.

The game itself not much to write hime about but Wright and Sena did well.

Foster looks a lot more comfortable at left back and Willamsom and Brownlie are fine for this level.

Docherty breaks up play well and can move the ball about accurately and has that bit more mobility than Bannigan. Banzo again is fine for this level.

Penrice had a solid if unspectacular game to bring up his century of Jags appearances.

Murray and Cardle didn't create a lot for Brian Graham up front and that area of our play is my main concern as it would be nice to have a two goal cushion going into the final five minutes to save the nerves.

As said above that might come especially with the three games coming up.

Still puzzled why Lyons has made little if any impact into the side. Might just be that McCall sees Murray, Penrice and Cardle as better options.

TL;DR

Another win, another clean sheet bring on the next diddy team...

I knew that Montrose is in Angus, I knew that Elgin is in Moray. I knew that Moray was in lower tier, therefore supporters are allowed in ground and as such didn't merit term used. I didn't know if it was level 1 or 2 and couldn't be bothered checking.

Back to post game chat.

Highlight of the game though has to be...

Thought that was very clever at the time. Foster and Docherty were quite high up the park and a quick through in by Montrose may have caused us a problem. Foster recognised the danger and found a way of slowing the taking of the throw allowing the team to re-organise

Need more of that cynical will to win. Its been missing for a few years.
