“Eat My Shirts!”

Have you got an absolute favourite Thistle shirt that you wouldn’t part with for anything? Have you got a Jags’ shirt that you regard as pretty horrendous but for some strange reason your life would be poorer without it? Is there a story to tell around your shirt? Is it one you wore at an important match when Thistle won (and then you didn’t get it washed) till they lost? Is it special in some other way eg signed? Did  a player give  it to you? Were you were wearing it when you met…eg your pal, your partner, your prospective boss at work (?!!) etc etc!! Maybe you just like it! Maybe you religiously buy each and every shirt each year or just the homes! Well, what about sharing a pic of it here, complete with reason(s) why you’ve kept it and it hasn’t gone to the charity shop or wherever.

My favourite shirt is the classic hooped v-neck mid-1960s classic. I have a TOFFS version with black no.11 on reverse (as per Davie McP) But, the one here was the first actual replica Thistle top I ever bought in my teenage years. Made by Umbro, with commercialism setting in on the sleeves and logo on the chest, it does have an embossed plastic Thistle badge-how I wish it was embroidered! NB: Don’t think it ever fitted me (properly!) but it was the biggest I could get at the time and, I er..wasn’t as big then! A lot of very good to brilliant Thistle players wore that shirt, so I have lots of reasons for keeping it. I prefer the vertical stripes or  hoops all the way round on sleeves as well as torso from earlier times. Nowadays, room has to be left for names of players, sponsors names and who knows what. The football shirt today resembles a formula one racing drivers’s ‘jump’ suit with rapidly-disappearing space to see the colours colours I feel! At least, Umbro, ‘tastefully’ (?)  included their logo on the sleeves in Thistle colours with this mid-70s effort…made in…nylon! (Agh!) But, no insurance companies, hedge fund managers, beer or gambling advertising on the front! I was less bothered by ‘Johnston’s For Rolls’ or the ‘Carpets’ don’t know why!

Very nice top.

My favourite is the 70's striped one with the yellow stripe in the middle, where the badge used to be. Still have it somewhere.

I prefer the collar here than on mine. Were the panels thicker on that version? Don’t mind either yellow or red middle panel.

Panels were the same thickness I think. The material was a bobbly cotton from memory.

Loved the umbro logo in black down the sleeves.

Favourite is the  red and yellow hoops followed closely by70s kit, yellow top with the big Thistle badge and red ollar and cuffs. I've a replica signed by the '71 cup winners.
