Is it Tony Adams who spent time in prison for drink driving. Did he get out of jail to play in the European cup or play with a tag on his ankle ?

On the wrong track, AJ

His only touch was a penalty he took

Can see where you're all going and are in the wrong direction. fifexile is closest in part.

Further clues- Mr Adams played for a Scottish club. West Germany (the country as opposed to the national team) features twice in this unique event.

Did Alan Evans go in goal for Aston Villa after original keeper (Rimmer?) Was injured and sub keeper wasn't ready?

Clutching at straws here! Hoping Evans played in Scotland at some point!

No joy.

Final clues. Yes it's to do with replacing the regular keeper. It involves a Scottish Club playing in the European Cup. The uniqueness has nothing to do with the result or anything that happened during the game, Entirely to do with Mr Adams himself.

Answer coming up soon. Come on, team, you can do better than this.

Ok. Sadly no one got this one.

Answer. Goalkeeper Willie Adams, despite playing in the European Cup for Hibernian only ever played that ONE senior game in his entire career. He thus never played a single senior domestic game. His one game was in goals for Hibernian in a 1955 European Cup match. Here's a comprehensive account of his career as a senior footballer...https://fitbastats.com/hibs/player.php?playerid=6115

How this came about. It's 1955. Hibs won their away leg to Rot-Weiss Essen 4-0. Hibs knowing the tie was effectively won decided not to go to the expense of bringing their regular keeper, Tommy Younger,  back from West Germany where he was doing his National Service. Hibs back up goalie also became unavailable, so they signed Willie Adams from East Lothian club Ormiston Primrose. Hibs drew the return leg 1-1 and progressed in the competition.

Willie Adams never played another game for Hibs or apparently anyone else and left the club at the end of that season.
