I thought Drysdale was back at Hearts  and the loan cancelled when he got injured. Reid was signed to replace him

He was injured when he arrived.  That's why we sent him straight back to Hearts before he trained with us.

Begs the question. What is the point in signing anyone if this is the standard we're going with. Was rubbish when fit and playing a few years back, so gonna be even worse now.

Run with the dross we have. See out the final 10 games. Usual release of players. Reset for next season and let new manager start forming a new squad as early as possible. BBG doing his chances of getting the job full time absolutely no help at all. (Unless he's looking to make himself look better as striker) We're an absolute joke. Won't be back this season.

Jakubiak?? God, what's the point? 10 games left, average of 1 goal in 14( we will need to sign him for next season to match that average). Mind you, we probably will, with reduced budget. Add to that, he will probably be on the bench all the time. Utterly baffling. But, it does show the trajectory of the club. Forever spiralling downwards.

Funnily enough, I think there are quite a lot of fans that feel like this. What is the point, we'll only get hammered by the teams above us in the play offs anyway. Get 4th. Take the slightly better prize money and reset for next season.

However, the club still think that reaching the play offs gives us an outside chance of promotion - and it does. So I guess they are doing what they can, within the budget constraints, to keep their dream alive.

It may be unrealistic optimism on their part or that they just keeping their fingers crossed and praying for a miracle. However, like a lot of fans, I don't fancy our chances of beating any of the teams above us in a one off cup tie, never mind over three two-legged matches.

I am not thinking of Jakubiak as being a regular starter, or even one to come off the bench other than emergency. What he has done is allow Ricco to go out on loan and get some decent game time. Jakubiak can easily fill the role that Ricco was previously providing, so I see that as a positive.

I don’t think Diack has had much game time so far for them either.

That's sound logic. To add to that if (let's hope when) we require to see a game out Jakubiak is a far better option than Diack (at present). He can hold on to a ball, can use his pace and lay it off, whereas Ricco has been found lacking in these areas. In terms of scoring goals I'd say Jakubiak for Diack is a neutral. I suspect the finances involved will be also close to neutral

So the squad is improved albeit marginally. Plus come summer we get to make a better valued judgement re Ricco's future.

I think that is true and I would add that right now Jakubiak coming off the bench potentially provides more options for us than Diack coming on.

Diack coming on was either as straight replacement for Graham or to play wide or as a number 10. Diack doesn't really have the skills yet to play wide or as a number 10. Also his hold up play has regressed this season

Jakubiak allows us to change formation in games. We usully start 4-2-3-1 with Graham as the single striker. Ablade seems less likely to be effective as sole striker so having Jakubiak means we could switch and play 2 forwards with Jakubiak as the target and Ablade as the striker providing Graham a rest and throwing a different challenge at opposition defences. At the very least Jakubiak's hold up play should be better than Diack so if we are trying to hold onto a result Jakubiak is a good player to throw on to make sure we get up the pitch.

To my mind Jakubiak isn't a mouth watering signing but he is a sensible signing given what's available and what we need

We know he's not the greatest, but it's not that long ago that he was playing a useful role as a squad player for Dundee as they won the Championship (I think he scored in that bonkers televised deciding match v. Queens Park).

ETA- I just checked- he's credited with 6 goals and 2 assists that season (by comparision in the same season Lawless was 7 and 4 and Tiff was 8 and 5). Anything like that would be useful.

Looks like a player with excellent experience which will hopefully means he makes a decent contribution quickly.

First and foremost so we regain defensive solidity we had earlier in the season, but also so we start firing again out wide.
