Thistle vs Livingston

Looking at this realistically:

Livi are undefeated in their last 6 games (won 5 and drawn 1).

We have only 1 win in our last 6 games, and most recently failed to beat the worst team in the league.

We know the outcome of Friday's match that we'd (presumably) all like, but unfortunately, the likely outcome is somewhat different.

At this point I'd like us to go back to being "the great unpredictables."

Not on recent form 🙄

That's right, and we were also the best-form team in the league at one point not so long ago. But in the overall picture to date, we are Miles (or should that by Myles) off being the best, and Airdrie are by some margin the worst.

I think Livi will pip Falkirk for the title. IMO they have the smartest manager in the league and they have a good balance within their team including a physicality that we and some other teams in the league lack.
Hopefully their match on Tuesday will have taken something out of them and give us a chance -  provided we raise our game and don’t play like we did for most of the second half against Airdrie.

Perhaps our last game before a new manager is announced next week… hopefully.

Not the least bit confident about this game but you never know. Around the turn of the year Livingston were far from unbeatable. That was probably their wobble period and now they're back to being very hard to beat. I doubt there's much chance last night will have taken much out of them as they made early subs and had two or three regulars remain on the bench.

If there was significant progress on performance I'd settle for a draw. Guess that progress will need to come from playing as a team, tho' maybe just moving the ball faster will suffice. Midfield needs to get on the ball and use it far more effectively.

The great unpredictables. For some reason I grew up relishing the fact that we looked capable of beating real Madrid (aye, puskas, di Stefano and gento) one week then losing to brechin city the next. My thistle loving dad called us the coupon busters...

Somehow we need to get 2 wide players firing simultaneously.

Chalmers has done so pretty consistently for the past couple of months.

For various and different reasons, Fitzpatrick, Lawless and Mackay have not been able to do so, and Ablade (though doing some good things) does not seem to be that type of player. Which of these 4 (or perhaps someone else to come from left field) is going to have the form, fitness and motivation to pick up the mantle?

If we could play the full game with the same speed and intensity as we did in the first 45 against Airdrie I'd be happy even if it Livingston win.

Key to that is midfield. We need more running in there as I thought thats were Livingston really showed us up in our last game beyond exploiting Sayers lack of ability and Fitzpatrick's lack of effort.

However with current midfield options all sub par for different reasons then it'll be a real struggle. I hope Lawless or MacKay is fit as we could do with Turner back central in the hope he rediscovers his ability to hold the ball and play some passes. Also suspect he is one of the few midfielders we have that is fit enough to do 90 minutes

We are still in 4th place but only because other results have gone our way. It's time we made a result go our way by beating Livingston. Can we do it?  Well in addition to being a more consistent and better team Livingston are a much more physically developed team than the Jags.  Football skills etc alone won't beat Livingston we will need to match them physically all over the park and I'm afraid I font ever recall us foing that. Taking into account our much publicised lack if fitness  I think it will be very difficult to win this game. I hope fir a draw but keep getting visions of a 2 or 3 goal defeat.

Fingers crossed we can scrape a 1-0 win or a draw. I don't see anything better than this.
