Site Closure - STILL HERE

This site will close one week after the final game of this season.

A little background to this decision.

For the last few years my partner has been dealing with some very serious health issues. Last Friday we received some shite news which this isn't the place to elaborate on. Suffice to say my priorities in life have changed, and I need to evaluate what is and isn't important to me. I’d already cutback on some things this season prior to last Friday's news and I’ll need to make some serious calls about some others at the season's end.

Advice I was given last weekend was to stop doing anything that I took no enjoyment from.

This site is lightly admined, I’d agree too lightly (my fault), but even still it still figures highly on a list of things that come under the heading ‘life is too short for this shit’. Even if all was well it's not something I have the time for.

I’ll not lie. A recent post hasn't been behind this decision but has helped confirm in my mind what I was already thinking, and has speeded up the process somewhat.

To be polite, I’m uncomfortable with the direction it's going in. I don't like how some seem to be using it as a vehicle to promote views very much at odds with my own values. Ask me privately and I’ll be a damn sight less polite.

Anyway, football is and will always be a big part of my life. It's a release from outside pressures but do you know something, it doesn't matter. It's a game. Nothing more. Remember that if you find yourself frothing at the mouth over a poor performance, or if you feel the need to try and tarnish the reputation of someone you don't know.

Just for clarity as I know some enjoy a good conspiracy theory. Nobody has asked me to do this. Nobody has put pressure on me to do this. It's entirely my call and for my benefit.

To return to the top of this message, the site will close seven days after the final game of the season. Hopefully that's after we’ve secured an unlikely promotion via the play-offs and we've had a week to celebrate and discuss.

C’mon The Jags (PTFC, PTWFC forever)

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

A big thank you to admin for running this site for many years. Over the years i have had the pleasure of meeting some posters from the forum. This is the only forum that i post on and i fully understand your decision.

You could not be more right when you said that there are many things more important than football, i heard somebody say that football is the most important thing of the least important things in life.

All the best to you and your partner for the future.

thanks for all the work put in running it here @admin I wish you and your partner all the best.  It was a good forum at one point but sadly less so these days (no reflection on you) and as you correctly state life is too short.  Would be fab if last ever post is pic of team holding ‘play off winners’ banner.  take care.

I add my thanks to the others. Being responsible for this site can't have been easy over the years and I wish you all the best. The site has been a (sometimes) welcome place to talk things Thistle and your hard work behind the scenes has been welcomed by many of us who have not always shown due appreciation.

So very sorry to hear about the challenges you and your partner are facing. You are right, life is too short to be burdened by other people's trivial pursuits and vendettas. I sincerely wish you both all the best as you come to terms with the evolving situation.

Many Thanks for the hard work you have put in to hosting and running this invaluable resource for us Jags fans. It's been very much appreciated.

I’m so sorry to hear of you & your partner’s personal issues & wish you both all the best.

Like many who post here I want to thank you for the many years of allowing us to debate all things Jags, some good times and some bad times. I also agree that recently it’s become a less enjoyable place to visit thanks to some posters who constantly want to down the club. I honestly wonder why they bother ‘supporting’ the Jags.

Good luck 🇧🇪

I'm sorry to hear about all this and I appreciate that it's a really thankless task at times.

However, it needn't be totally thankless! I wonder if there's an organisation or fund close to your heart that we could collectively donate to, as a token of gratitude and a chance to make a wee bit more good out of this?

If so, please name it and I'm sure folk here would be glad to send a wee something and perhaps drop a note in this thread to indicate they've done so.

Thanks for everything and I'm extremely sorry to hear of your personal situation.

I also understand why you could be "uncomfortable with the direction" the forum has been taking. At its best I view the forum rather like pre and post match patter in the pub. A place where you can argue the toss about players, the odd rumour or two and general football/Thistle matters. And just like the pub if you go on and on about one particular issue you'll soon find yourself propping up the bar at the quiet end talking to yourself. One major difference between pub banter and the forum is respect. Folk say things on here that they either wouldn't say face to face or if they did would start a rammy. There's some posters who seem to take themselves too seriously on here. Perhaps we're all guilty on occasion, and it's not much of a sin, but there's definitely a few serial offenders on this forum.

Really sorry to hear your news and absolutely agree with putting family and personal priorities first.  Thank you too, for keeping the site running and bringing together many jags fans, even if we don't always see eye to eye.

Best wishes and a huge thank you again.

Wouldn't say I'm a regular contributor by any stretch but having no interest in social media groups etc, this site (and various predecessors) is always my go-to for reaction to games, news, speculation, or anything Jags related.

Massive respect for anyone willing to put in hours to keep something like this going with the various self-important egos on show at times.

Admin. Just want to add my thanks for all the time and hard work you have put into the forum over the years, and please be assured that this has been hugely appreciated. Wishing you and your partner everything good at this time and for the future, and hope that you will be provided with all the help and support you need.

As one of the more lighthearted posters, i have really enjoyed reading and responding to all manner of interesting chat about players and games past and present, and sometimes future as well. I would also pay tribute to others such as Thistle Archive who have brought so much informative and entertaining material to us. Looking back I will soon forget the relentless and repetitive hammering of negative agendas, and memories of the forum will all be positive. It has always been great to have quirky perspectives, and the occasional injection of humour of varying quality. Lovely to meet some of you in person as well and to form some lasting friendships.

Sadly I do not have the available time or necessary technical expertise to be a forum administrator/moderator, but if anyone else is feeling the hand of history upon them, and that this is the moment to step forward and either preserve the current forum or launch a new one (I am not an expert on the respective merits of these options), you will have my encouragement and my gratitude.

All the very best admin, whoever you may be. Life far more important and i wish you all the best. To those posters who are in the virulent and vexatious camp ( you know who  you are ), perhaps a degree of humility and reflection should be the  order of the day.

Genuinely saddened to hear of this site's impending closure. I have valued and appreciated the chance to share opinions and hear news and views about Thistle.

Beyond disappointing that a factor in ending this forum has been a noxious post from someone who I doubt has the self-awareness or humility to realise that endlessly repeating his self-important opinions is not a worthwhile exercise.

Caring for a loved one is the finest thing you will do.
