New Manager Thread

Recommended Posts

I really think that what Wilson and Graham have against them is the fact that there are two of them. Co-managers under a sporting director seems excessive, and yet I think they are inseparable now at Thistle, as the one taking the job would look like he'd deserted the other. Particularly if that were Wilson seeing something of a legend out the door.

I reckon Imrie has slightly over-achieved at Morton. I'd line them up at about 8th before most seasons, and he's done better than that, though not spectacularly. I think most people's issue is that he's always been a dislikable opponent, which I don't really think is a bad thing.Ā

I really don't know wast I'd do. The relationship with Baraclough will be important, so suitability is hard to judge.

BG made that interview with The Herald all about him, rather than focusing on lifting the team for the trip to Almondvale. His ego would stand in the way of him being our next manager.Ā

£50K on Baraclough and we're gonna end up with Wilson/Graham, Imrie, McCabe, Martindale. 🤣🤣

Tinpot boardroom shenanigans from up Firhill as per usual.

Next you'll be telling me Baraclough has identified 8 players from Scottish leagues to bolster the squad for the new season.

Season ticket cash staying in my pocket for another season.

Would really love to see an interview with Baraclough and Beastall (and anyone else involved in the hiring) to understand what they are looking for in a new coach. Ā BEFORE they select the new coach.

My concern is we have been looking for a new coach since February and they could have given interviews since then which would have stated what they were looking for.

To do so now would surely just delay things furtherĀ

I think the update from Bestall pretty much confirms its not Graham or Wilson. No point in meet the manager events for managers you already know.

Also sounds like they feel the need to explain themselves for making an appointment some might view as unpopular, so can see it being Imrie rather than say McCabe who doesn't carry the same feeling.

The statement talks about meet the manager, chairman and sporting director which all has a horrible overtones of the sessions with Gerry Britton and Garry Caldwell. Already feels like we have made a mess of this with not thinking through what it would mean to put Graham in charge and not give him the job but to start to the next era in a Caldwell style gives me the fear.

If I go I'll probably have more questions for Bestall and Baraclough than I would have for Imrie.

For those who thought Graham's interview with the Herald or the BBC seemed self serving have a look at the sky news one which was clearly done a bit after fulltime yesterday when the emotion of the game had cleared. Its very hard to argue against Graham's logic. Why would the new guy want a capable replacement and fans favourite sitting in the dressing room? I'm sure folk on this forum commented on that when Graham got the job so you would like to think the chairman and board had figured it out

Hang on latestĀ  Ā Dick has thrown his bunnet in the ringĀ

I appreciate it's a joke but I am getting a similar vibes about Imrie coming in.Ā

No honeymoon period, has done the best he can with the resources at his club but it would still be a step up to Thistle.

It might work but it probably won't and it could have a negative impact on crowds and revenue.

I keep reading about Imrie doing a great job at Morton but that is all relevant to expectations in Greenock where mid-table and staying out of relegation trouble is seen as success.

At least McCabe has had a tilt at the playoffs but they fell at the first hurdle by a certain team managed by a certain manager who is out of work now, certainly at a managerial level...

Did we really need a sporting director in place to come up with the names being mooted?

We will likely be losing a 15-20 goal striker for a start.Ā

The sporting director and new manager, as it seems clear BBG & Wilson aren't getting the job, have a massive job on their hands.

I obviously have serious doubts but I hope it works. It just doesn't seem a very smooth process so far...

Interesting times.

Sorry for the selective quote but Wilson could step back into his academy role yet still have a match day influence. The unanswered question is of course how important he's been during game play. If it's an inseparable double act then I agree re overkill.

Be interested to know how for example effective McCabe is as a manager when he's on the field. Who pulls the strings then?

Oh I see from the main site the reference is to employing a Head Coach as opposed to a Manager.Ā

Some may see that as mainly semantics. Personally I sense that terminology excludes certain of the usually suspects but at the same time opens the door to a left-field perhaps untried appointment.

Don't understand these tired "tin pot" comments.Ā  We are a club with 2000ish season ticket holders in the 2nd Tierney of Scottish football with a few million in turnover struggling to break even.

Who else do you suggest and why punish club more by keeping £££ away.  The only way we improve is £ for signing players.

How do you know it wasn't the journalist who put that spin on it?

That’s the kind of analysis that the SD needs.

Not sure when we became adverse to appointing as manager a player who has been at the club for a few years, shown promise in interim co manager role and a fans favourite. Glad that has not always been the case, if it was 23rd October 1971 might not be a very significant date in our clubs history, 2012/13 might not be a league winning season and then achieving our best league position in over 30 years 4 seasons later.Ā
