New Manager Thread

Get on with it, Mark. Congrats!

We’ll certainly miss his goals and his 100% effort but without Graham we can change our style, get our striker running off defenders and getting on the end of through balls.

He’s a contracted player so we should screw Falkirk(or whoever) for a substantial fee and we’re saving a fortune on his salary (ies).

Surely we can now attract a striker with pace and agility (Adeloye, Ollie Shaw?)

I suspect Wilson will bring the dressing room together which only happened in times of crises(Livvy, Falkirk, Ayr). A lack of unity was evident during the season.

Like any management arrangement, I suspect the finer detail of who does what very much depends on who is involved and how they get on. Now that Baraclough and Wilson are in post, they'll be working hard at playing catch-up and establishing an effective working relationship. They both come across as reasonable people who'll be capable of taking a collegiate approach.

Once the decision was taken to keep Graham and Wilson as co-managers until the end of the season, which was an entirely reasonable decision to make, there really was no way of avoiding a period of uncertainty at start of close season.

I would imagine Baraclough has been working on some things he would ordinarily expect the coach to do, given the circumstances. Here's hoping anyway.

All the best Mark and Ian.

And all the best to you all - think this is a good point to finish.

I would suggest that the other candidates, including BG, wanted a more managerial role. Mark appears happy with the head coach role, so good luck to him. Also, hopefully the SD can do good off field business and really help him out, he need it give the opposition next season.

p.s. The salary they would be offering for a head coach would possibly also have something to do with it.

I think that the combination of Baraclough and Wilson will work well, and that the departure of Graham is in fact a blessing that will enable a radical change in tactics.  If we can re-jig the midfield and find a speedy striker the prospects look good.

Hope to meet all you doughty posters on the replacement forum.

Worth minding that Graham, but for the odd few minutes after subbing, never "managed" the team during match time. For good or bad any substitutions and tactical/formation changes were largely down to Wilson. Besides Graham due to his advanced position upfield wouldn't be able to read too much into the way a game was progressing. One observation I felt was that Mark wasn't slow in changing things about.

On the subject of BG I hope our next captain will play in a position where he'll be more influential. That in itself will help the Wilson. Martin possibly would've been the pick given his deep position but I'd have thought Ashcroft would be a good choice. McBeth looks like a future captain but maybe too early for him.

I thought that was an impressive interview with Mark Wilson (despite the weird question at the end about Clyde SSB). He's an intelligent guy and sounds like he's comfortable with the role and gets on well with Barraclough. I was in full agreement about his comments about the lack of pathway from youth to first team, it has always been an issue for us.

The bit about becoming a better coach away from the pressures of the Senior game was interesting and hopefully will have a positive impact on the team.

They both now need to get on with the job and show they are the right guys to take us forward.

It will be difficult, I still have a lot of reservations about what we're doing off the field and where we seem to be channelling a lot of expenditure but will get right behind the new Head Coach and fingers crossed we're watching some entertaining football at Firhill next season.

Agree about it being a good interview. He sems to have a handle on the relationship between SD and coaches roles. Wonder if the SSB question was contractual between Wilson and Radio Clyde?

Think the SSB question was asked simply so he could confirm he wouldn't be working for them outside his 'day job'.

Spoke well and wish him all the best

im at work so missed bits of it, was his assistant/background team mentioned?

would also have liked chairman or sd to have put an interview out as well and not let wilson be the face of this. Club have clearly been left with egg on their face, have someone come out and own it at least.

No best wishes to Brian from me, substantial transfer fee or freeze for the season.

Would welcome his kid back as a fan if he doesn't want to follow another team.

We can’t afford to freeze him out. We need bus wages to pay for a replacement.

in case you hadn’t noticed, we don’t have the financial clout of top English Premier clubs

I think within the next 48 hours we either have to let Graham go to Falkirk for a nominal fee or Wilson and him come to an agreement whereby Graham is happy to play.

Graham's interview explained perfectly well why its nigh on impossible for him to return to the dressing room. We can't afford to have wages tied up in any player that doesn't want to be here.

So sad as it is better he moves on and to a team not in our division.

Just wish this had been handled better and Graham got an exit his performances deserved. Seems strange to think that we have in the last 20 years had to strikers hit over 100 goals and both have been bundled out the door.

By all accounts Graham was offered the position of head coach but turned it down. Hardly 'bundled out the door'

Nixon now reporting Graham has said no.

We seem to be dragging our feet on this process and in danger of losing candidates because we didn't move fast enough.

Literally elected a new Pope faster than we've appointed a Head coach

Our Head Coach is more important.

Looking forward to seeing how the Wilson-Barraclough partnership pans out, and happy with them both in their positions.

Don't forget, everybody: Davie McParland didn't exactly set the heather alight right at the start of the season when he took over. It took a lot of tweaking of formations and tactics to get us playing the great stuff that eventually paid its dividends.

Yes we can. It will release his wage, probably the highest in the current squad. Need to look at what is best for the club, and continuing to pay a player who wants away isn’t going to help the club

Happy with that interview, he speaks well, knows what's expected of the role and feels confident he can work within the remit.

Graham has been a great player over the last 5 years and I'd say to be fair he's always said he fancied one last go at the premier, and would have liked that to be with us. Wasn't to be in the end, so move him on and let Wilson find a replacement.

Personally, I think the last couple of months have turned Graham off the idea of jumping into management. I thought Wilson saying along the lines of "people think it's easy to go straight in to the manager's seat from playing"  was possibly a nod to that. Graham is a winner, and you could see even during his few months that things not going his way were getting to him. He needs to be a bit more measured with his toys out the pram moments to say the least if he wants to be a successful coach or manager at a decent level.

I'm glad Imrie wasn't offered the job. Him and Morton in general can go and fling sh*te at the moon.
