Ayr United, 2nd Leg

Recommended Posts

That was an incredible display of guts, character and a lot of good football.

Guys like Crawford, Stanway, Fitzy who I’ve been critical of really stepped up. To a man, they all did the red n yellow proud.

Fans were brilliant, never stopped (invasion not great).

Hope Scott Brown enjoyed that one 😊

Brian Graham, it was always going to happen, wasn’t it!

Well what can you say about that other than something like unbelievable  brilliant, fantastic. Can't wait to hear what Scott Brown has to say about it.

I suppose it's just the Thistle way.! On to Livingston. My only concerns are  the squad we can muster for the games and the fatigue factor!

However tonight the team spirit and will to win was there for all to see.

A bonus - it looks like we have a player in young Jamie Low.

C'mon the Jags

Agree, Stanway was outstanding in the first half.

He did tire second half, but cannot really complain about that.

Having assessed Jamie Low’s first half as “sound”, I now need to revise that up by about ten notches!

I see it totally the other way around. We need to score early and get them on edge. If we sit back there's a good chance (given our injuries situation) they'll score a second anyway. So let's get them nervy.

If they beat us after us having a go, fair enough, good luck to them. But to go out with a whimper would be disappointing.

An early and late goal for us and no reply from Ayr.  We both got our wish. :thumbsup2::fan:

This is why we sit through all the dreary games...I was jumping about the house screaming and with tears in my eyes!

Don't know if we will be able to field a team against Livy but I'm willing to sit on the bench if needed.

The movement from the "3rd rate legend" at the goal was first rate.

My head is gone and we've only reached half-time. Hope is a terrible thing.

With Thistle it's always the hope that kills you...(well almost always! )

On train back. Backs to the wall with a weakened team, but boy they gave it their all. Young low magnificent. Graham once again to the rescue. Who knows what happens next but enjoying this moment.

Stll not forgiven Walsh for Ross County... but showed exactly how to ref a team like Ayr- diving at every opportunity, obstructing the keeper, pleading for yellow cards- didn't buy it and Ayr had nothing else to offer. Tuesday nights ref Dickinson could learn a thing or two from that. Also what another gutsy give everything performance from the jags

Amazing only saw 1st half before heading to work again and saw dozen missed txts/calls so another iplayer watch tmrw.  Have been a critic of BG and a few others but hats off to everyone tonight and what a memorable debut for young Low.  Onto next week we go.  Buckle up.

A performance of real character, pride and belief.  Ayr had plenty of possession but were prevented from doing anything meaningful with it by terrific team work where every player helped the one beside them. We created the better chances and Stanway was close twice and Fitzy could maybe have had one after forcing an error in the first half.

Every Thistle player a success tonight but special mention to Low, never been in a squad before tonight, and hopefully we see a lot more of him next season. And of course the fabulous Brian Graham. His century of goals and his work rate have been phenomenal during his time at Firhill.

The result all the more impressive given the depleted squad. We know the odds are stacked against us winning over another 4 games but the team / Graham/ Wilson merited the celebrations tonight regardless of what unfolds next. Can’t have done BG/MW chances any harm tonight the way the team fought for everything and stuck to the game plan.

Hopefully get Chalmers back for Tuesday and I’d image OReilly too 🤞

Shout out to the ref tonight.
Knew what was on the line and let both teams play.

Agree entirely - I was filled with trepidation when I saw it was Nick Walsh but he was excellent, what a contrast to the guy on Tuesday

On the youngsters....

I've probably pulled wee guys up for acting like ***** outside Firhill. But when I see the same wee guys holding up their scarves, banging the drum and singing the songs I see an atmosphere and excitement among Thistle fans that I haven't seen in generations.

So i appreciate them.

well now...that was a fun Friday evening.

Need to go up to my neighbours in the morning and apologise for all the shouting and balling at the telly.

Onwards to Tuesday

And warn them there will be more next week and possibly the week after.:fan:

Wow, what a performance.

God knows were Wilson & Graham pulled that team selection from but they nailed it. Timed the subs to perfection as well with Jakubiak assisting the second goal. Surely they have secured the permanent jobs?

Every single player that played us tonight was brilliant. 100% effort and commitment. Superb.

Where has Jamie Low been hiding when we were playing numpties like Sayers?

One last point - It just wouldn't be the playoffs if we didn't get to sing "Ayr, Ayr are falling apart again" Absolutely glorious, more please 🙏
