2025/26 squad

I am happy to give Alex Rae a clean slate. He does seem to have calmed down and is able to laugh at himself, which is always a healthy trait.

HIs midfield experience should be especially useful and relevant. I do not think he would have signed up unless he thought that we were going to be reasonably competitive this season.

Agree, its a strong appointment as assistant manager. He definitely seems a lot calmer in recent interviews and has a pro license so don't think we could have done much better

Apart from the comedy show in the Dundee game he never really registered with me other than he was ex Falkirk and he shared a name with a former Thistle captain.

I imagine he is a bit more chilled nowadays, has grown up and moved on from the panto dame role.

Who is the player using walking stick/crutches?

Kyle Turner. If you recall he had to come off during the away game against Ayr in the play offs and since then has had an operation for a hip injury. Expected to be out for 3 to 4 months.

Thanks FT.

I recall that game and I remember thinking at the time that some of the treatment he got from the Ayr players was outrageous but the ref did nothing which was alo outrageous.

Also worth remembering on the past Alex had well publicised battles with alcoholism (sadly as many have) which of course may well understandably have affected his temperament.  However absolutely delighted to see that he appears to have beaten it (which is no easy task) and will have a fresh perspective nowadays as will his experience at so many different clubs.

As has been mentioned he is very close to Mark Wilson as well so I think it’s an ideal choice as assistant and goes without saying I hope Mark and Alex are a great success

Welcome Alex and all the best at Firhill

Worrying lack of any rumours in here. There is usually someone supposedly in the know coming up with names, or someone with a photo of an unknown player in training

We didn’t know about Reading or Budinaukas until just before they happened. Unlike last season where players were mentioned and before too long they ended up elsewhere.

But that speculation is much more fun than why BBG left us

Season following McCall's sacking it was widely expected we'd have to make do with a squad based almost entirely on those already contracted, bolstered by our youth players. Didn't occur as cashflow improved. This pre-season has elements of the same state of affairs as of two year ago.

Had thought with Barraclough coming in there would be fewer rumours as targeted players may be sought from a wider pool. But with our SD being out of action I don't know what to think. Would be reasonably happy with what we've already got plus short term loans taking care of the positions still needing cover. The January window is never great for transfer business but it could buy us the necessary time to get us on to some kind of strategic planning re recruitment.

No idea if it applies to us as it was in reference to English leagues but sometimes clubs will hold off making signings so they fall in the right tax year.

Our delays are probably more due to personnel and budget issues which have a contingency in place now as far as we're are left to understand.

Maybe not tax year you mean as that runs April to March. Maybe something to do with their Financial Regulations?

Possibly. That would make more sense.

Looking like a really tough season ahead as teams with a smaller fan base look to have a substantially larger budget and our lack of internal organisation has greatly effected us planning for the season ahead.

Seems baffling as we have been in this league for the majority of the last forty years (and have roughly finished in the same place in the league for the last four season thus gaining a similar amount of prize money) that we don't know how much money we had to spend from the final whistle at the Livingston game?

It also seems like we have spent the last weeks alienating the fan base and pumping out bad news and random statements whilst asking for the purchase of season tickets.

In terms of prize money, I think we did.  But the challenge is more to do with the timing of everything.

That money isn’t paid immediately, so it’s not cash we can use immediately.  At some point during the season, we will be relying on cash we made earlier in the season, some of which is an educated guess.

A big part of that cash flow forecasting can’t happen until after the schedules are released.  So we can project gate revenue based on day, time of year, and opponent.
