Good to see Dan MacKay getting 65 minutes in our Glasgow Cup tie against Queens Park. Hopefully he now gets through training without any reaction and we can see him back in the squad sooner rather than later.

Wonder who the trialist was

Normally I'd assume a youth player and probably is. But playing 90 mins and taking the first penalty perhaps suggests otherwise.

65 mins for Dan sounds like he must be near ready, save for complete match fitness. Fingers crossed for the lad (once again). A positive being that he's been out when our two wide players plus Wee Stevie have been fit and making a considerable contribution. That may not always be the case and having a player challenge for a wing spot who unlike Lawless could play 90 mins could be crucial. Can only hope that will be the case.

Scott Martin expected to play in a bounce game at Livingston on Monday.

The manager did indicate in the summer that Scott may be back earlier than first thought. A return to full fitness in a few weeks/month would be great news and certainly even earlier than the reappraisal.

Guessing others may question the possibility but I for one can see both Martin and Smyth being effective in a midfield without it being considered too negative.

I assume Ashcroft will still remain captain?

Given Smyth’s ability to get forward (his goal against Ross C a perfect example), then yes I think both could play together with Martin the permanent anchor.
Sometimes I think we can be a little too open in midfield with quite a gap between Smyth and the two attacking midfielders, something that St Johnstone might exploit more than most. There's always the possibility of Smyth being recalled in January, hopefully not, and having both players available will certainly increase Wilson’s options.

Talking of January, it’s going to be interesting to see if we can add to the squad. Another defender (hopefully Ashcroft is back quickly) and a striker would be ideal if we’re going to really push for promotion. Whether we’ve got the funds is probably dependent on Scottish Cup progress, although Wilson has done well with loans so far (what’s the limit for the season?).

Our squad is roughly 23 already including the two out on loan, so it would need Diack and McKenzie to stay out on loan for the remainder of the season, unless Wilson decides to bring Diack into the team in January. He’s scored a couple (and got himself sent off!) in a struggling Kelty team so the jury’s still out… I guess things will be clearer by the turn of the year.

Mark Wilson was on the Saturday morning show on Radio Scotland. Just looking back on getting appointed then spoke more about his personal life. Hes getting married a week on Sunday. So congratulations to Mark and his bride to be.

Surly by the time we play St Johnsone we should have every one back, fit , and ready to go. Keep Dan MC Kay in cotton wool and after some 16 months we might get to see him play..

I've given up with him to be honest, not reliable in the slightest and cost the club a decent sum of money, injuries happen and that could be harsh but we'd be as well cutting our losses when we can

I don't know the ins and outs of Dan's injury and subsequent setbacks but there could be insurance issues as well.

Looks like a Thistle takeover of Radio Scotland this weekend as Kris Doolan was guesting on Stuart and Tam's Sunday version of Off the Ball.
