2025/26 squad

Someone mentioned the Cove keeper Suman recently in a post but I see he is signing for Aberdeen.

I think our biggest initial problem is where the goals will come from though rather than keeping them out.

Ehm …. We don’t currently have a keeper, so we definitely need one, preferably two.

Lewis Budinauckas wouldn't be my choice. After a few  games he was replaced again by our eternal backup keeper. Think we could do worse than Dabrowski who was released by Raith. Heard he might be going down South, but I think it would be worth a punt.

I find Dabrowski to be an excellent shot stopper but his kicking is pretty dire. Bud was very good with his feet. So I guess it depends how we're set up to play.

I suppose so 🤣

I was more thinking it would be harder to get a striker that will give us a decent return rather than decent goalkeepers

Can anyone enlighten me on loan players and salary sharing?

When clubs loan players to us, are we typically picking up the tab?  Or does the parent club pay some of the wages since, in theory, they are getting game time in return?

How about when we loan players to other clubs?  I’d imagine our finances are too fragile to pay much of the player’s wage.

Whilst I think that Wilson's appointment and what has been said by Baraclough points to us playing more of our youngsters (and I have been wanting to see that for a while) we will still need a few loan deals (hopefully quality over quantity). Baraclough worked with the current St Mirren manager at Motherwell and Oldham so I wonder if we might see some St Mirren fringe players coming in. Pre season speculation - don't you just love it?

A strange one with Mitchell as if he stayed I would not have been unhappy but equally I am not that upset he is leaving. He did have a few very good games but there were also a few games were he did make costly errors but such is the life of a keeper.

I wonder if Kenny Arthur is staying on as keeper coach or we go with an older and younger keeper combination with the older one doing some coaching as well?

It’s that word rumours again- but there are rumours that Kenny Arthur has left the club.  I’ve no idea if he has or not

I hope that the club will keep us updated over the summer as in the absence of facts rumours and speculation take over. I used to have a manager who said  when there were periods of uncertainty "a lie has gone halfway around the world before the truth has got its shoes on"

Im probably in the minority that feel that Mitchell was under appreciated. Solid keeper and always reliable, few mistakes tarnished him for most of the support but that’s the life of a GK.

Disappointed to see him go. Another tricky position to fill.

interested to see the released list…not sure why we are being made to wait again. Hoping to see Banzo’s name on it.

Mitchell gone. Happy enough with that.

Full list published tomorrow. Obviously no reason that the list can't be published right now, but let's keep us waiting. Fannigan 2 year extension incoming

I think the retained list will tell us something about our direction.

If we're letting everyone out of contract go - Mitchell, Jakubiak, Muirhead, Kelly and Bannigan then that would make sense if we are looking to go for a younger squad and trying to reduce the age of the squad whilst upping the speed of play.

If we start to offer terms to one or two of those older players whilst we still have a core of experience in Ashcroft, O'Reilly, MacBeth, Crawford, Martin and Turner on the books then in it more looks like our finances are forcing us to make changes and keep cheap older players for 1 more season

I'm not unsurprised to see Chalmers linked with other clubs. He was probably the most consistent winger in the league. From our perspective we have 4 wingers which assuming all are fit is a luxury however I can't see anyone paying big money for Chalmers so difficult to see that happening unless he's someone we are paying a big wage to and want to free that up for elsewhere in the squad.

Go along with this. I thought Mitchell would've been OK for a back up keeper. He was au fait with the defenders, which was a plus. Starting the season with two new keepers won't be ideal but if both are better than Mitchell then it will be worth it.

Aren't rumours and speculation a big part of the entertainment during the summer, followed by the dismay or the delight, and of course the expert opinions of forum members, when each new player finally gets unveiled?
