if we were able to keep the likes of Fitzpatrick, Chalmers and Stanway

I'd be surprised if any of them are here next season, promotion might change that though...

That would be my hope.

What worries me a tad is we wouldn't know our status till late May. Often the transfer window just finalises deals made a good bit earlier. Players keen to get things fixed before they go on holiday. That sort of thing. All but the two clubs involved in the play off final able to make more concrete plans weeks earlier.

There are some things that feel inherently unfair to me in football. This is one of them. Successful clubs potentially being at a disadvantage as a direct result of their success.
Another one is a relegated club getting a home game to open the season. I don’t think that should happen.

Of course, playoffs are of themselves inherently unfair, so if you get rid of them, you get rid of your first gripe. From a fairness perspective, all promotion and relegation decisions should be made on the basis of league placement only.

Ideally I would like it to be a straight 2 up, 2 down between the divisions but we know that the premiership teams won't vote for that. Also, for me, that would require uniformity of division sizes and any talk of reconstruction at the moment seems to be not welcome at Hampden.

Agree. I have always thought the worst position to finish in the lower leagues in Scotland is second, in most other countries that would guarantee promotion. I do realise we benefited from the playoffs 20 years ago when we finished 4th and 13 points behind 2nd placed Morton and we got promoted and not them.

The one positive will be that we get an extra £100,000 over whoever finishes third and £200,000 over whoever finishes 4th but other than that its not ideal.  Unfortunately this is the closed shop of the Premier league running this so its unlikely to change

So would York and Rochdale! York on 107 points and Rochdale 105, only one goes up and they play each other tomorrow in the final game!

Agree with that, but for example if we think back to the play off against Dundee United (not nice I know) would it have helped us for United to have had to play a couple of games before facing us? The play offs here despite the variations since first introduced have always had one element I strongly disagree with and that is giving 2nd bottom teams another chance.

If we need to have play offs at least them be to give a team that has finished the season in a high position the chance to go up.

I like playoffs but I don't like the top league team getting a chance of redemption after having a failure of a season.

They should be amongst the promotion chasing teams only but I accept the size of the league doesn't allow 2nd-5th place to playoff like down South.

Rochdale go 1-0 up in 90 + 5mins, job done for Rochdale you would think only for York to make it 1-1 in 90 + 13mins. Sickner for Rochdale who have to go into the playoffs.

Rochdale fans to blame for that by invading the pitch.

sky sports journo Anthony Joseph reporting that Poland have made enquiries about Stanway representing ‘em as he qualifies through heritage.

How do FA’s get to find out that a promising player might be eligible to play for them ?

Not sure tbh, maybe his agent knew and alerted as think he has been linked with a Polish club too.  Would be Scotland’s loss.

Most fa's have someone working for them that goes and searches players out and then either questions the player/agent or does basic research on the family tree. I'm sure Stevie Clarke has spoken a few times about someone that works for the sfa that has helped find a few of the current Scottish players that weren't born up here

Wondered if it would be agents pushing this sort of thing

The clubs not involved in the playoffs are now starting their clear outs, etc and I see that Ayr have appointed Gary Naysmith as manager. I would have though Stenhousemuir would have wanted to wait until after the playoffs before that got announced.

Hopefully we will be in better position at the end of the playoffs than we were last season, I seem to recall their was an article in a newspaper going in to detail about how it was the worst pre season ever!
