2025/26 squad

It is an interesting discussion about the squad if we were to win promotion. Looking at last season when both Falkirk and Livingston went up there was not a lot between them over the season but this season Falkirk have gone forward whilst Livingston struggled. Both went with quite a lot of the squad that won them promotion but it looks from the outside that the additions Falkirk made worked out better than Livingston's and the Falkirk players making the step up did a better job - possibly down to better coaching.

I would hope that with the core of the squad we already have in place if we got promoted we could add a few quality additions but we would still need others to make that step up and I think in Wilson & Rae we have guys who could do that with good coaching.

Doncaster Rovers and Carlisle United are both keen on Partick Thistle’s Aidan Fitzpatrick. The 25-year-old is out-of-contract at the end of the month. The winger has been a big player in helping Mark Wilson’s side into the Premiership play-offs. His future could now depend on whether or not the Jags can win promotion. Doncaster and Carlisle will both have him watched in the second leg of their play-off with Dunfermline. Fitzpatrick previously had a spell down south with Norwich City, in between his two spells at Firhill.

Falkirk signed Brian Graham! (Joke, as he's featured only occasionally and for brief spells.)

Perhaps we could play the testimonial card here?. Not sure the additional wage when relocation etc is taken into consideration would be that good a deal for Aidan. We most likely have to counter with loyalty to offset.

He is at an age he has to maximise earnings. Even though Carlisle are in the 5th tier they will be able to offer far larger packages to players, even taking into account a testimonial.

Who is still under contract with us at the end of the season?

I am including Clarke & McPherson as they have agreed to sign once the season is over.

Keepers

Clarke

Defenders

Ashcroft

Logan

Loughrey

McBeth

McPherson

O'Reilly

Reading

Midfielders

Crawford

Lets'osa

Forwards

Diack

Samuel

Watt

Smyth, Taylor and Ingram will return to their clubs once the season ends and the rest are out of contract. Of those out of contract Budinauckas and Martin have options for a further season if we choose to activate them (like we did with Samuel).

If we are promoted we needn't splurge all our dosh before the season starts.  There is an argument for having a smaller, better quality squad and adding to that during the January window as our finances improve during the early part of the season.

Thanks, Basil:

A decent nucleus. But especially if we somehow land in the top division, we'll need to strengthen in almost all departments.

I think Wilson places a lot of value on continuity so don't expect a large number of new signings myself, especially if we can keep Fitzpatrick and get Smyth back. I would like to see us sign another left back for cover/competition as it has been fortunate that Reading has been injury free this season combined with his good play. Central midfield and wide areas look to be where most of the work needs done.

Scott Martin being allowed to leave so he can join Queens Park. Liked him in the few games I saw him play but unlucky with injuries.

Unlucky with injuries but no big loss for ourselves, guy needs to be playing regular first team football for a season
