Well, the confidence will be high in the squad after we swatted aside title favourites, Ross County.

We now face a stern test, in the Perth Saints. I've tipped them to win the title but will they have more gumption than the Stags?

Hopefully not. Should be a good turnout from the Firhill Faithful, as we head for beautiful Perthshire looking for another win, while the sun shines.

Let's go!

A win in Perth would make it a simply tremendous start to the season. And with the squad we have at the moment, and their displays, I 'm certainly not completely pessimistic. However, if we do lose, then it will be more important to get the home fixtures off to a successful start

Consensus appears that our main weakness is a lack of strength in depth. It's important then to get the points on board early season before more injuries and the odd suspension kick in. That said a draw at McDiarmid would surely be acceptable.

One of the dullest matches I ever saw was us drawing with St J at McDairmid. An absolute borefest, which finally put my reluctantly attending friend off football for ever. I don't think he ever attended another game in the last 30 years of his life. The match was in the late 90s or early 2000s, If I remember correctly, and it was also live (well, dead) on tv (maybe).

They have always been a dull team. But we need to respect them for being in a place we should have been for years. And for their double.

They are now at our level. It will be interesting whether they suddenly become a more attractive team but we should certainly have no fear. Get right into them!

Agreed. I made a similar comment in the run-up to the Ross County game last week.

All correct - I, too, remember it as one of the dullest games ever.

A mid -week night game in the Premier League, televised by Sky in the 1990s.

Proof will be in the pudding come Saturday but by a good few accounts last season had them as an entertaining team. Hard to believe, I know, Further this season I read that their main weakness is in defence. The question might be, will they revert to type and be boring again? Maybe not on Saturday if attack is their stronger hand but once the season gets well under way. I'm actually expecting this game to be quite open and hoping that suits us.

Yip it was a Monday night on Sky. 0-0. Still the worst game of football I’ve ever been too. Went on the Jackie Husband supporters bus from Merklsnd St.

I was there. I think it was a Div 1 game and Sky must have thought it would be a game between title contenders but by that time we’d fallen way behind them. I seem to remember us getting thumped 4-0 at home to them around Nov or Dec time and the televised game was maybe around Feb? Does that sound correct?

My memory of the game was that StJ was top and we were second. Also that rumours where that Lambie was about to go back to Hamilton, which I couldn't believe were true but it did indeed turn out to be Lambies last of the first stint and he did go back to Hamilton!

I could check on the amazing Thistle Archive but I like the drama...

Slightly tangential to this thread, there is an article on the BBC website which, in my view, is astonishingly patronising as regards the forthcoming Championship season. It portrays the division as something akin to “It’s a Knockout” or the likes with pejorative ricketies and madcaps thrown in for good measure as well as Homer Simpson quotes! Mind you, given the journo who concocted the piece it perhaps isn’t a surprise!

Perhaps the BBC should stick to fawning over (and ignoring certain “traditional”elements of) the Old Firm and talking up the Premier League as if it were actually competitive.

In general any coverage of the championship is all the same patronising bullsh1t or simple stereotyping, probably allowing the minimum of research by the 'journalists'.

Understandable, though, when there is "news" about some ex-auld filth player from years ago moving to a new position (even though he's long been glad to be away from the cesspit), or one of their current or former  player's favourite dishes.

Puke.
