As well as scoring the fourth goal, Jimmy Bone gave the Celtic defence a hard time throughout the ninety minutes in the 1971 League Cup final. His winning a header from a corner started the scramble that ended in Rae's opening goal, and his pass to Lawrie set up the second. He was a constant threat throughout, including the second half when he gave the defence a break with several penetrating runs. Let's not forget his role as interim manager in 2007, after Dick Campbell finally got the sack following a 0-4 home loss to Clyde. It was a measure of Jimmy Bone's standing in the game that former England and Rangers captain Terry Butcher was happy to take the assistant manager's role. With the state the club was in, relegation, administration, liquidation were all on the cards when Bone took over. Jaggernaut Posted September 3, 2025 Report Share Posted September 3, 2025 Around 20 years ago the Highland branch of Thistle supporters (run by Fiona and Norrie) organized a an event at which everyone partook of fine food and drink. Jimmy was the guest of honour, and he and his wife were just brilliant company. He was modest, down to earth, funny and entertaining. He'll always be one of my favourite ever Thistle players. Tonight I was recovering files from a corrupted hard disk and randomly clicked on one of the 40,000 or so picture files.... It was a shot of Dick Campbell and Jimmy Bone taken from behind the dugout at somewhere that looked like it might have been Cliftonhill. Spooky! There was mention of some sort of Scottish Government health campaign in the early 1970s to encourage children to eat eggs for breakfast, and this had a jingle with the words "E for B" as in "Eggs for Breakfast" followed by "and". The idea seemed to be that you filled in whatever else you would like for breakfast, such as toast or whatever. However, the Thistle young team of that generation adapted this into a terracing chant that went "E for B and Jimmy Bone". Can anyone remember more about this?
