One really good feature of Mark Wilson's management is that he is not averse to timely changes during games.  That means the starting line up is not as critical as it was under previous managers who were much more reluctant substituters.  Given that and our superabundance of midfielders, we seem to able adapt better and to hold onto leads that we couldn't a few seasons ago.

Another tough game. After a slow start Ayr now on a good run of results. Although a draw wouldn't be the worst result, i feel with us being the home team we should be going for the win. Imo we started the second half on Saturday with more intent than we had shown in the first, we should be starting the game tomorrow that way. I would start Stanway for Turner, other than that no other changes, tho i do realise we will play 3 games in a week and not sure how well Ashcroft and Watt will stand up to that.

I kinda feel that we need to score at least twice to get the win. We have done that 4 times in the league and won each time, whereas we have only won twice of the 6 times we have only scored once.

If I understand your conclusion, you win more games when you score more goals. Radical !

I think this post is spot on regatding the starting 11.

Regarding tonight's game. In the last two or three games we haven't started well. I don't think this is any accident. I suspect that other teams have sussed how important it is to us to start well and not only get an early goal but to set the tone on the game.

Therefore our opponents have decided to combat this quick start strategy by starting on the front foot themselves. Morton and Ross County did this effectively. What they didn't do was appreciate the resilience of the players to overcome the challenges they set.

We cannot allow Ayr to set the tone of the game. They are an in-form team   and arguably the best team we will have faced since the St Johnstone game.  It could be harder to get back into the game against Ayr if they 'out stsrt' us.

A Jags win 3-1 if we can get on the front foot from the start.

Turner is still finding his feet after a lengthy injury, I think he is the most likely to make way for Stanway given the short timeframe between games.

I'd stick with Fitzy over Lawless for this one, he'll have a point to prove after being hooked at half time.

It would be interesting to see Lawless play as one of the central attacking midfielders although a tough game against Ayr is probably not the time to try it.

Other than that, don't think we'll see many changes to the starting line up from Saturday.

Can't see much change to Saturday's team.

Arguably Lawless and Stanway are the ones pushing for a start.

I still think Stanway is carrying a bit of a knock, even in his appearance on Saturday he looked in a degree of discomfort so not sure he's fit enough to start. Lawless has been good and possibly closer to taking Fitzpatrick's place but I suspect Wilson will want to keep the same starting 11 as the team is benefitting from consistency of selection.

Wonder if we will see Mackay make the bench?

Typical Thistle. Dominate the game, work hard, pick up the loose balls. And still Ayr score. Our own fault at times. Despite the hard work, we don't test the keeper, keep playing tippy passes when a killer ball is needed, and Fitzy keeps doing Fitzy stuff (mostly falling flat on his arse). So frustrating as we have worked really hard. It's just that constant need to play an extra stupid square pass.

Ashcroft looks like he's taken a real sore one.

Holding a calf is never great when you’re getting older, can’t afford to be without Ashcroft for months.

Agreed. And it is one area we really didn't strengthen during the window. Struck me as odd that we were relying on two >30s to stay fit all season.
