Wilson deserves great credit for his tactics today and for the progress this season, as do the players and back room staff. It wasn’t a comfortable watch for spells in the game especially late on, but I’ll take that along with the 3 points, and the more entertaining 4.3.3 most other weekends. The players really have bought into his thinking.

It's clear Wilson puts quite a bit of thought into how the team is set up. I feared playing two up front would result in our midfield being over-run and to some extent it was...but the rope-a-dope strategy worked and then Samuel & Watt combined well to put us two up.

St Johnstone had lots of possession & pressure but we defended well and they made few clear chances whereas we had three early in the second half. We carried no threat after that but not for the first time this season, we sat back but didn't really look like conceding.

A really great team effort today...I'm not yet convinced I'm watching a League winning team but it's been an enjoyable season...a win on Tuesday would be nice.

What a result.

I had family commitments (nice ones).

Turned up with 20 minutes to go.

2-0 I thought, but fans on edge- 2-1 down.

Didn't see much football in that last spell but the dream is alive.

Tomorrow will be watching the game back.

What a team.

What a manger.

No. They are a better team than us, just not today 🤣

I would contest that. They have better players than us, but we have a better team. I would argue that Arbroath are probably the best team with the players they have got, but would never admit that the Jags were anything other than the best 😁

It was quite a result with only 32% possession too.

An excellent team display, especially the defensive aspect against a fast and slick passing side. Each player did their bit and mostly did it well. For me, Samuel played his best game for us yet, McPherson mostly kept McPake in check, Mr T buzzed around annoying the opposition at every moment.... But one who tends to be under the radar is Reading at left back... another rock-solid performance from him.

Almost 5.5K people there, pretty impressive! Dunfermline won't bring as many fans as St Johnstone on Tuesday, but hopefully another big Thistle support will see us go joint top.

By the way, I can't recall ever enjoying reading or listening to a manager/coach's review of games as much as those of Wilson. Most managers trot out the same cliches time and again without actually explaining anything or giving any real insight. But Wilson is excellent at communicating the set-up of the team, the tactics, and the reasoning behind various moves, substitutions, etc. Not only that, but he's clearly doing a great job at getting results..... I hope we can hold onto him.

We couldn't have asked for much more from yesterday. Some say luck and that got pointed at the Scotland game on Tuesday but when it comes down to it the manager can only pick the team and set them up with a plan to win the game.

The manager alluded to changing things up due to our first meeting.

We ceded possession in return for getting touches in dangerous areas in the Saints area.

We were very direct but the first goal was another well worked set-piece with Fitzy coming from deep overloading that wing. Not sure Dan even got the final touch but he was in the right place at the right time.

Second goal also vindicated the decision to start Samuel and Watt. Some touch by Alex to setup Tony. Great ball from Ben McPherson, who had another decent game.

Good to see Watts and Fitzy get involved in the goals and assists again. They had gone a bit off the boil in my opinion.

Can't say that St Johnstone were bad. Still looked a strong team who maybe hadn't changed the gameplay too much from our first meeting. Still got plenty of possession in attacking areas but the Thistle players were putting in a great shift to stop too many clear cut chances.

Overall a decent game with two decent sides by Championship standards. Great crowd and support for both teams.

Sets up Tuesday nicely but could be some more changes from Wilson. That will have taken a bit out of the legs but no obvious knocks.

Big difference between the number of away fans that the ST Johnstone commentary team thought had been sold(1,600) and the number given on Jagzone (1,295).

They played some pretty stuff but had no killer punch.

McPake is possibly the best player in the league but he grew increasingly frustrated by our centre backs’ dominance of their other forwards. Ashcroft was all over them the whole game. And eventually Ben had McPake in his pocket.

Their (over) confidence has been dented. Teams know how to get at them. Well done to our manager as our striking duo rag dolled their defenders.

Samuel is a real handful.

Sure, they had some nice midfield touches but I’d imagine McPake might want to leave for better things in January.
