Forfar v Jags

Thought I’d start this match thread as I saw Forfar beat Dumbarton 4-1 on Saturday.

I don’t think they will trouble us too much. Apart from an excellent free-kick goal, the rest of the goals were scrappy. And their young goalie has eaten all the pies.

3-0 Jags

Forgot about the plastic pitch TBH, not that that always helps (Queens Park). My app suggests freezing overnight temps. You are probably right though, I'm just a half glass full person sadly.

If it is off, it would guarantee that we are in the 4th round draw 😀 (glass half full)

Surely it would be bridies he’s eaten, not pies!

Did we not get put out all the cups in the first round by playing trialists

Hopefully we've learnt our lesson  and take all cups seriously

Further we go in the cups it's more money in the kitty

As far as I recall we have always played our best team (or at least very near to it) in Scottish Cup ties, where winning is of course vital and can be substantially rewarded financially.

The story has been different as regards the various iterations of the Challenge Cup where we have often played what could be loosely termed our "second team" of bench players and up and coming youngsters. There may be some financial rewards for progressing, but not to the same level as in the Scottish Cup.

Not that you're doing it, but in terms of prestige and potential financial rewards you can't really compare the Challenge Cup with the Scottish Cup. There's always going to be strong argument for playing a weakened/experimental side in the former trophy. Certainly useful fixtures for giving your reserve goalie a game, resting senior players and giving valuable game time to others. It is after all a competition where clubs prefer (financially) an away tie to a local team rather than housing the home fixture.

In converse the Scottish Cup should be taken very seriously regardless of the opposition. Might change the team around a bit but say giving the likes of Martin or Crawford game time , maybe Bud Light in goal would have justification. After all we probably can't both progress thru further rounds in the Scottish Cup and maintain a title challenge without digging deeper into the squad. Fortunately, unlike too often in previous seasons, I can't see this current squad not taking Saturday's game anything but seriously regardless of line up

I would hope we are resting a few tomorrow and giving a few some game time even if it risks a cup shock

Also not expecting to see our loanee's not because it indicates they will be recalled but because their parent clubs will want to protect any sale value. Also think that in the case of McPherson and Smyth they could do with a day off to be ready for the league

So wouldn't surprise me if have something like

                   Bud Light

Logan-McBeth-O'Reilly-Reading

                      Martin

Lawless-Turner-Crawford-Fitzpatrick

                    Samuel

That line up wouldn't surprise me at all. Obviously if McPherson & Smyth are available we'd be daft not to play them even if only as late subs.

I spoke to Robbie Crawford at the calendar signing last night, and sadly he is out for a few more weeks.

While I agree with a certain amount of freshening up, and I take the point about loan players perhaps not being available, to leave all of Chalmers, Stanway and Lets'osa out seems to deprive us of a lot of pace, energy, creativity and (dare I say?) expected goals!

We have to win, so I would be looking for a bit closer to our strongest team, with of course plenty of room for substitutions, depending on how the game is going.
