McBeth and Fitzy other standouts for me. Was surprised Fitzy was the one subbed for Lawless because Chalmers didn’t look like he had things going today. Agree with all of the above. Clarke my man of the match. His first half save was at the far end and thus difficult to see, but it looked brilliant from afar. McBeth very sound at the back and made some good forward passes. Chalmers kept trying to make things happen, but they were not coming off. Lots of strong running and crossing from Fitzy, and I would have kept him on. Lawless made little impact when he came on. Turner was more involved and did some great recovery runs. Stanway did well first half, but faded a little in the second, perhaps partly contributed to by his booking. We had a few spells near the end where we seemed to be raining in shots which were either saved or blocked. However, draw probably a fair result on the overall balance of the play.
partickthedog
Samuel worked hard and occupied the defence, but we did miss Watt’s ability to hold the ball and play team mates in.
lady-isobel-barnett
Re partickthedog's comments re Stanway. I agree that the booking justified his substitution. Rather unfortunate in a way as I would've said at half time Ben looked the least likely of the midfield and attacking players to be getting subbed. Strange game today. Thought at halftime we perhaps were just shading it despite Ayr having most of the corners (6 to 2). Second half Ayr were the better side tho' this time we had the lion's share of the corners (again 6 to 2). A draw was a fair result but surprised it was goalless. Can't mind a game in recent seasons at Somerset when the atmosphere has been so poor. Certainly very quiet today. Had the misfortune of sitting besides what I'd consider a front runner for our most negative and pessimistic supporter. My heart goes out to anybody who regularly has to sit besides this fella at Firhill.
Jimmy McD
It could have gone either way today .. first goal and probably the only one was gonna win the game, take the point and move on to Arbroath, D.o.R. and Watt back , another seaside visit.. Jaggernaut
In the end, a draw was probably about right, although according to the BBC we had more possession, more shots, more shots on target, and more corners. I still think we're too fond of tippy tappy for no real reason, and walking forward with the ball, waiting for our forwards to actually come back to receive an almost sideways pass. Lots of misplaced or overhit passes and unlucky bounces for both sides today, but to be fair, both teams showed no lack of effort. Holt was pretty immense in the Ayr defence. Our throw-ins are dreadful. Ayr could cause St Johnstone problems, whereas Arbroath will be swept aside by us..... 😎 Edited December 7, 2025 by Jaggernaut
allyo
This is some run of fixtures we are on. After beating St Johnstone our next three games have effectively been against our next closest challengers. (Ayr were third, Arbroath are now third, Dunfermline had a game in hand and would have gone third with a draw against us).
allyo
St Johnstone's form since late September is very average. 3 wins, 4 draws, 2 defeats.
