New Manager

Aberdeen looking for a new manager. Would be naive of us to think Wilson isn’t in their thoughts.

I would have thought it more likely that Kilmarnock might have looked at Wilson, but thankfully it seems that Robbie Neilson or Neil McCann have become the favourites there. I would expect Aberdeen to set their sights somewhat higher (in their perception at least), so hopefully Wilson will be under their particular radar.

I am mindful of the historical parallel. It was in January 2013 that Jackie McNamara was poached by Dundee United. However, if Aberdeen were to deign to look at a successful Championship manager, would Simo Valikari not be a more likely target?

Not sure. Valikari just got relegated from the premiership. I would have thought that Aberdeen would most likely poach McGlynn from Falkirk.
Wilson hasn’t got the track record yet.

Valikari is the weak link in the Saints setup and the one that gives me hope that we can still win the league. They should be out of sight with the resources that they have.

McGlyn is a possibility, but I expect Aberdeen to go for some exotic foreign diddy, or an out of work failure from down south looking to resurrect a career

I dont think Wilson has anywhere near the body of work to get a job like the Aberdeen one at the moment, to those looking from the outside.

Valakari took St Johnstone down but did improve their results and they are sitting in a decent position.

I dont think either would tempt the Dons board or fans. If they were to go for somebody outside the box it would be the current Motherwell manager, however I'm sure they would not be welcoming of any advances.

I'd be more worried at the moment of Wilson leaving to join someone as an assistant manager at a bigger club. Mark certainly has the credentials. He's got experience with both youth and full team training, plus his ability to make positive changes in game time would make him an ideal guy to have alongside a manager in the dugout.

I've no idea at what level an assistant manager pays more than PTFC pay a manager.

I would have thought that Martindale might also be in with a shout as regards the Aberdeen job.

I dont think so going by their performance this season and possibly too much baggage to even be considered.

Given the overwhelming sense of entitlement at both Old Trafford and Parkhead any manager appointed should fully expect dismissal after 14 months or 8 weeks or however long it takes them to not live up to the expectations of their so called supporters.

To be fair, most United supporters that I know were generally supportive of Amorim. They (like Amorim) have a grievance with the board and club bosses.

Nancy was a total numpty and I suspect that Jags fans would not have tolerated that performance and attitude for more than 8 games

Don’t forget that we only gave Gerry Collins 14 games. From what I remember, most of our supporters were in agreement with the decision. And unlike the two you mention, this was someone who had  lots of goodwill as a former player and assistant manager.

Ok an old manager but I for one don't want to come over all churlish. So can I just congratulate Gary Caldwell who steered his team to scoring a goal against Manchester City today. All the best, Gary 👍

How Caldwell hasn't been found out and hounded out of football management by now is a mystery to me.

But then again, so many failed managers just move into another job, and then another, and then another.......
