Absolutely embarrassing this evening. Feels like the wheels are starting to come off a little, considering we played a full strength midfield and couldn't string anything together. Turner back to his usual crap self (regressed so much - can't believe he played in the top flight) and anytime I see Bud the Fud in goals, you may as well give the other team a two goal headstart. That was by far Wilson's laziest signing of the season.

Hopefully this will give Wilson something to ponder with the fringe players. It's clear that we lack any sufficient depth beyond the starting 11.

Think tonight is pivotal for us now. We don’t want to go on a losing streak, Next two games are obviously very winnable. I think we go as strong as possible.

I think we need to change the nuance: every game we play is obviously very loseable.

The slowness in getting the ball up the park makes the team predictable and easy to defend against. ICT is moving the ball much faster.

Every team moves the ball much faster. It's like we have a chronic disease that slows every movement down to walking pace.

Totally embarrassing  definitely underestimated Inverness

Wilson made a right mess of that their right winger ran riot with our defence

Trying to play a passing game that takes 10 passes to get over the half way

We need to up our game ASAP.     or we could be a middle of the league team

 Must win Saturday

Totally blew it. You just knew Turner would miss his pen....

Yep. The number of shots that Turner sends sky high is unbelievable, whether from free play, free-kick or penalty kick... pretty consistently over the rainbow it goes.

Well into extra time, gaining possession at the back, and..... passing sideways across the defence. A few brain transplants needed here.

Absolutely, because they've been drilled into this unthinking, monotonous, sideways or backwards passing, for absolutely no advantage. Commenting on our last match I asked why it takes us five or six of the above passes just to get the ball out of our half, and if we're a goal or two behind it might even take more than that. Pretty much the same tonight.

It's most noticeable with Lets'osa: at the start of the season he was buzzing around and moving forward, trying to slip through balls to forward-running forwards. Now his very first reaction is to hit a first-time pass backwards; doesn't even look up to see if there's a forward opportunity, backwards or sideways it goes. Almost every "attack" goes backwards, and that's not just by him.

Positives:

Chalmers was good. His goal was brilliant.

Samuel fought hard, deserved his goal and occupied their defence. As soon as he went off, ICT were under little pressure and came back into the game.

Loughry looked promising and took his goal well.

We took a League One side to penalties rather than losing in normal time as we have done on the past 4 occasions in the Challenge Cup.

Having run out of positives, there is not a lot to say. Twice, at 1-0 and 3-2, we were well in control of the game, but relaxed and allowed ICT to dominate.

Turner's two penalties, his second especially, were bad enough, but he also had a terrible miss in the first half when he skied the ball with the goal at his mercy. Stanway was hugely missed. I would have backed him to score at least twice tonight, and to bury a penalty.

Bud was Fox-like in never looking anywhere near saving a penalty.

Shipping goals all too easily in recent weeks. The starting 11 didn’t help things against decent opposition.

Felt it was a mistake to sub Samuel (easily our best player) when we had the initiative and that gave them less to deal with. Ok, you want to give him a rest and give others a chance. But if Wilson really wanted to win the game we had a better chance with him remaining on the park. A serious error.

The new boy looked comfortable and took his goal well, hopefully he’s a good signing. What is abundantly clear is the squad players won’t help us secure 2nd spot in the league. But we knew that already. We clearly need more quality if we can afford it.

Up until the saved penalty there was only one team in it. After that ICT were the better team and scored 2 goals, although Bud did have a couple of good saves imo he should have done better with the first goal. After we went 3-2 up Chalmers and then Watt both had efforts that just went wide, but after that we just played the ball about as if we had won the game.

We really need to win on Saturday as we don't want to get knocked out of 2 cup competitions at home by lower league teams and unlike a win tonight a win on Saturday could see us getting a money spinning tie in a later round, also we are on a poor run of form at the moment and we need to turn it around soon.

Any positives?

Well, I thought that young Dolan and Falconer both did well enough in the first half, and Laughrey looked like a decent acquisition throughout the second half.

Also.........., nah, nothing else.

Well, Samuel especially looked up for it, and took his opportunistic goal well.

Wasn't there but not totally surprised with the outcome. Guessing this means a much stronger starting XI for Saturday. Tho' I often edge towards the indifference re this competition, I did want to see us progress. Pressure now on a run in the Scottish Cup.

Who was due to take our fifth penalty in the shootout? I imagined that Ricco would've been down for one as he's good on free kicks.

Who or what is behind this agonisingly slow build-up tactic?  It spans managers and players, so why does it persist?  If it continues it will seriously damage our promotion prospects, both in terms of results and in the longer term the level of support.

To be honest, I don't really think the build up was the problem really. During the periods we were on top, we were creating chances perfectly well. We scored 3, missed a pen and at least two absolute sitters, and got behind their defence many more times. We built attacks perfectly well. 3 goals obviously should have been enough for a comfortable victory.

Unfortunately, the problem was 1) the periods when the midfield disappeared so that we never had the ball for minutes at a time (therefore were not in a position to build) and of course 2) the defending itself. Though if you replace essentially the whole of the defence and keeper then you will tend to struggle defensively.

Oh, and 3) Turner (who I've never really rated other than during the play off run to the final).

Wasn't at the game and only caught the last 20 minutes of the steam. Appreciate the performance wasn't great but on the whole its not the worst to be out of this tournament.

Last night demonstrated we just don't have a big enough squad to play in multiple competitions and whilst the prize money has increased in last nights competition its nowhere near what could be on offer if we win on Saturday or continue to challenge in the league.

Hopefully last night allowed enough rest for O'Reilly, Ashcroft, McPherson, Stanway to freshen up enough to beat Montrose.

However what was most telling about our squad was who we couldn't rest. Again we had to ask Chalmers and Fitzpatrick to play almost full games because we have almost zero cover in those positions.

Reading was also again asked to play a full game but at least with Loughrey on board there are now options there assuming O'Reilly stays fit.

Only other comments and its not an excuse for our standard of play but the pitch does very bobbly almost rutted.
