Thistle v St Johnstone

Let's take the positives. It is the fear of having to face us in the play offs that has caused Dundee United to up their game.

That’s amusing. But the reality is our shot at the Championship title must be over now.

Playoff wins against Arbroath and probably St Mirren are our only hope. But I don’t think we have enough squad depth to cope with those.

Don’t think I want it to be St Mirren as that means that Taylor and Smyth(if fit) can’t play. I would also prefer it not to be Arbroath as they are the only team we haven’t managed a win against so far.

Agree with both points. Clutching at straws with the second (and assuming we're league runners up) but Arbroath being part time may find the extra games a bit too much. Regardless who we play we really want Arbroath, Pars etc to be battling it out by game 36. Conversely ideally we want that sort of tension absent from a game or two.

Important we get the week's rest before the playoffs.  And to secure 2nd ASAP and rest key players.

For me now the key bit of the season is getting second wrapped up pronto, with the way the squad is just now and us running out of games for the title, second is my main concern just now.

Its a bit of a strange league this season. Normally it goes right the wire to sort out top 4 but we could well see the top 4 placings all but confirmed within the next 2 weeks.

Technically we need 12 points from the remaining 21 available to secure 2nd however If St Johnstone win their next 2 it pretty much secures the title and also makes it difficult for Arbroath to catch us particularly if Morton can take something from Arbroath. Dunfermline could well be confirmed in 4th before they play us on the 11th April and you could see a draw being mutually beneficial in that game as could be the case in Ayr v Arbroath and Raith v Morton on the same day.

It could also be that Ross County and Airdrie are confirmed in the bottom 2 by around the 11th April although perhaps who is automatically relegated and who goes to the playoff might take a bit longer. Their game on the 4th April already looks like winner takes all. A win for us on Friday against County means they have 5 games left to make up minimum 5 points on 8th place. It also not impossible that we might we be officially relegating Airdrie on the 18th April....

In theory there could be a lot of meaningless games in the last 2 or 3 rounds. Perhaps this is why we are not bringing in free agents? perhaps Wilson is thinking we will be playing fringe players for a couple of games and allowing the full squad to recover for the playoffs?

Then again its the championship and its a crazy league so who knows?

I have been very impressed with how Wilson goes about things. I think he is definitely a Head Coach rather than a manager in the traditional sense and if he was going to another club it would need to be one using that model (hopefully he is here for several more seasons though).

Why do you think he is a Head Coach as opposed to a Manager ?

He has obviously used connections to bring in Players + he has been a Manager with other Clubs

What do you think he isnt doing that a Manager does ?

He doesn’t have to manage players contracts or deal with players agents. He can spend all his time thinking about how to get the best out of the players he has and the next game coming up.

I am just going by what was said at the time of his appointment:

He also speaks about it in the video interview which is in the article.

If that is all he is doing then I hope we’re not paying him too much. Be able to spend most of the week on the golf course.

I am confused (nothing new there you say). A Motherwell player gets a 4 game ban for pretending to get hit a month ago but no action, it appears, is to be taken against the St Johnstone who clearly elbowed Fitzpatrick (or by the time the Compliance Officer re-emerges from their slumber the season has ended so in essence they get away with it).

I think it is specifically the simulation they want to clamp down on here, as opposed to other types of cheating. Motherwell’s reaction to the ban isn’t particularly good in my opinion.

I think there are several issues going on here. I don't watch a huge amount of Premiership highlights as we are not involved (yet) so have just seen the incident. The ref saw it and judged it as violent conduct by the St Mirren player (a clear and obvious error in my opinion) yet the VAR official did not intervene (another error) so nearly 1 month later the compliance officer (remember them) gets involved and the Motherwell player gets punished for simulation (the correct decision). However the St Mirren player's red card had been overturned shortly after the game.

It seems that in typical Scottish football style we got to the correct decision in the wrong way and that is not a sensible way of going about things moving forward.

We should be cracking down on simulation absolutely along with all the other rule breaking that is taking place - anybody seen a keeper punished for holding on to the ball longer than 8 seconds? I have not and being sad and having counted at various games there are keepers holding on to the ball for 10 or 11 seconds. Have a go at it tomorrow night's game.

I think that was because   we had appionted  a Sporting & Recruitment Director rather than Mark Wilson not being able to be the Manager
