A great 3 points. After not winning away from home since September, we have now won 2 on the road in a row, broken the Starks park hoodo, Ben McPherson scores his first goal for Thistle and Bud keeps a clean sheet. Only downside was getting more yellow cards. Quick turnaround to Friday now. Well done to players and management team. :fan:

Going away to Raith Rovers midweek in the situation we are in, with a depleted squad and hanging on to St Johnstone, and winning. I think that's one of our best results this season. And if I was a St Johnstone fan I think it would be a sickener.

Not getting carried away. But if we keep this up it will put pressure on them.

Thought we more than deserved that.

Both goalies had good games, even if neither was inundated with shots. Some very good saves all the same. Felt that our defence handled everything late on but even so Fitzy's goal was more than welcome. If Watt had been playing alongside Samuel tonight we'd have won comfortably. Samuel was excellent but marked by as many as three players as often as not. Some shift he put in.

Two really superb goals. Looking forward to seeing the first one back, as of course it was at the far end. Brilliant team move which came from nowhere on the night (but no doubt reflected much work on the training pitch). Excellent finish from Ben McPherson as it was a challenging angle.

Fitzy's goal was a solo effort, but equally good, and right in front of the support. Driving at pace at the defence, beating 2 defenders and a beautifully directed shot across the goalie, finding the only available space in the corner of the net. Lovely to see the team spirit. Everyone was so pleased for Fitzy.

Both goal scorers got up and down their wings all night, so deserved to be rewarded with the goals.

Bud was solid, and that early save was so vital. Did incredibly well to stop the ball so near to the line and to hold on. That could easily have squirmed past him or dropped at the feet of an attacker.

Alex Samuel must be the first Thistle player who can do the corner flag routine to perfection. He was holding off 3 men at a time. Would have been a fantastic rugby union forward if he had chosen that career path. Ethan Ingram is a player.

Credit to Mark Wilson for making full use of the limited squad and keeping some players relatively fresh for Friday.

Highlights now up on Youtube (RR TV: superb quality images, angles and replays, compared to the shockingly bad, blurred, single-perspective images that we pay for on PTTV).

As ptd wrote above, the first goal was a terrific team move with slick passing among several players, and a fine finish. And the second was trademark Fitzy: runs at and around/past defenders than hits the ball low into a corner, great stuff.

I'm guessing there were no real weak points, and all deserve praise, but I'll give a special mention to Bud: two fine saves in particular. Hope some people will start cutting him some slack.

Another excellent post-match interview with Wilson. Unlike most of the managers we've had in the past decade, he explains specifics clearly, rather than just trotting out the generalities that most managers resort to (in imitation of each other!). And he does it when things go wrong too (as of course they do!). I always look forward to his thoughts on games coming up or just finished.

I wonder when the first attempt to poach him from us will come.

Great win, was saying on Friday night it was time McPherson scored as he was the only outfield player without a goal.

Before the January window, I think that was the case, but now I think Ingram and Taylor have still to score.

Just watched the highlights. Why was Fitzy booked? Didn't look like his celebration was over the top.

In fairness he was in with the supporters and it was probably more a booking because he was taking his time and running down the clock

Wasn't a great silky game of football last night but I reckon Wilson and Rae got the tactics and selection spot on. A Dougie Imrie relegation threatened team was always going to be brutal, physical football and we were just more physical and stronger than Raith.

Putting McPherson up against Stevenson massively restricted any threat from Raith down our right and also limited Easton. The only place Raith were getting any joy was down our left side as Doherty was running into positions that Loughrey didn't feel comfortable going into and Fitzpatrick struggled to cover. Once Doherty went off injured Raith really struggled to get out and have that much possession.

Raith's only real tactical switch was to through on their winger (Chin) to try and attack Lougrey but you could see Rae on the thistle bench immediately telling Wilson what they were trying to do and subbing Lougrey for Reading just closed off that threat.

Raith did hit the bar and have a couple of half chances but I thought our press against their defence meant they were just reduced to lumping balls to Innes Cameron which more often than not O'Reilly, Ashcroft and McBeth mopped up.

Great to see McPherson get his goal. How on earth he's not in the U21 squad is mind boggling.  Ingram does look like decent player. Bud did well particularly with the early save on the line. Best game from Turner in a long time. Fitzpatrick was in and out the game last night but I would take that every game if the end product is a goal and an assist. Alex Samuel holding the ball in the corner and fending off an army of Raith players was probably moment of the game and just great entertainment.

However in my opinion M(en)OTM for me were Wilson and Rae. I would be amazed if anyone had forecasted that starting 11 and playing McPherson as right winger but it all worked and even when the subs were made Wilson and Rae knew exactly what to do. Also interesting to watch them looking at the players taking the applause from the fans, they looked like really proud parents

3 withdrawals from Scotland u21’s squad and still Stanway and Mcpherson are overlooked as replacements are Ryan Carr, Josh Dede & Taylor Steven.  Not complaining right enough plus the Steven’s call up puts him out St Johnstone’s game at wkend.

Good point. Hopefully Taylor will get one when he comes back, willing to let Ingram not score as his clearance against Morton was worth a goal.
