The proverbial game of 2 halves. We were poor in the first half, Dunfermline had 2 good chances before scoring. Second half we were much better with Watt on and imo deserved to win. Samuel has been brilliant for us this season. Not got a clue what the tiffo was like even tho i was right behind it and behind me and to my left Thistle Chic Charnley. :fan:

Mention for Cammy Logan who came on and provided a great ball for Samuels winner.

Cometh the hour, cometh the Cam. Another brilliant Cam-eo from Cam Logan!

Tony Watt and Alex Samuel superb in the second half.

Credit to Dunfermline. Their tactics were spot on in the first half. As always Mark Wilson found the solution. I have never before been so aware of the tactical astuteness of a Thistle manager. Amazing ability to change a game plan in midstream.

Tears in the eyes for the flags & Return to Firhill Road...two fairly evenly-matched teams...we had more of the ball in the first half but Dunfermline had better chances...second half we had more cohesion and the match followed the pattern of so many home games this season with drive & determination and a fair bit of skill giving us a lead that we didn't look likely to give up.

Pretty decent performances all round...Watt made an impact and the other subs played their part whereas the replacements for Dunfermline were a step down.

I remember thinking Alex Samuel was a dreadful signing1

Despite the Old Firm & VAR, I really want to see us back in the top Division...but the play-off Groundhog Days are great entertainment.

Great night, will remember that winner for a long time, and the northy looked incredible!

do we know how many jags for generations we sold? They get first dibs on the 1600 for st mirren, wondering how many could be left for the 2nd wave of regular season tickets holders

Great result Jags

Watched it on BBC Scotland. Pity about their sound recording. They couldn't have had many microphones around the pitch as the noise and atmosphere of that big crowd just didn't carry on to the telly at all.

The passion, energy and commitment of our young fanbase is bringing something special to the club, and will make us stronger in the future. Credit to them, and I wonder how much the kids for free deal had to do with us having so many.

We should always shoot to the City end in the first half , we play better in the second, and the support from the guys in the JL surly is a massive incentive,      We can only dream that this is going to be our year...

Great result in the end. To even avoid defeat on Thursday would be incredible - an unbeaten season at home!

Only concern over the last couple of months is the O'Reilly and Ashcroft partnership (regardless of what league we play in next season). Felt that we gave Dunfermline a little too much time and space last night (especially right after we scored our first, and Dunfermline almost scored).

I can share your concern but feel the number of defensive headers won by O'R & A goes someway to mitigate their performances.

Regarding the team/squad/manager a real positive for me is when we lose the first goal I no longer get that feeling of trepidation about the final result, as in other recent seasons. Recent matches against Morton, County and of course our two games v Pars this week back me up. I don't know about the actual stats but tbh it's more the knowledge that heads won't go down (in fact it's often the opposite) and we'll still be fighting away to the end that impresses me no end.

Think it carries better here TC.

One thing I wanted to say was how great the atmosphere was and how good it was to have 2 games where I did not see any pyro or people running on the pitch!

Come on, the game wasn't that slow.

On this forum over the years we have questioned referees performances. Imo the referee and JHS assistant did well at what turned out to be our winning goal. The ball is put into the Dunfermline box and Stanway went down and stayed down. The ref waved play on and the ball was cleared. I thought the ref might stop play as he had done earlier on in the game a couple of times. The ball was then played back into the box by Cammy Logan with Stanway still lying in the area, in an offside position,, no flag from the assistant and Samuel scored. Imo another set of officials we could have seen that goal ruled out or the play stopped before the ball was played into the box.

I thought the same as you AJ but there was absolutely no reason to stop play and Ben wasn’t interfering but you could see he possibly caused distraction.

you have to say though, what a brilliant header by Alex

If there was VAR i don't think that stands. Agree about the header by Alex, what a signing he's been.

I can remember 2 similar lobbed headers:

  • The late Paul McGrillen for Falkirk when they beat Celtic in a Scottish Cup semi-final (around 1998?).
  • Robin van Persie for Holland v Spain in the World Cup (2014?).
