partickthedog
I think it is time to start a new thread for the new season to come. As we summon the strength to go again in 2026-2027, who should we say goodbye to? Who should we invite to jump on board the Partick Thistle train? laukat
With Martin already left I think Turner, Mackenzie, MacKay and GMS will follow Resigned to losing FItzpatrick, Chalmers and Stanway. So maybe 8 out. Hopefully sign Smyth and Taylor Assuming Bud signs on again that would mean we already have 2 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 strikers. 17 in total and assume we would need another 5 minimum. Maybe more if Diack, Falconer and Logan go out on loan or we have the budget to run a bigger squad Priority positions would be wingers, cover at fullback and probably another central midfielder. I would also like to see a quick striker as we loose a lot of pace if Fitzpatrick moves on. Rumours I have seen are Jay Henderson, Euan Henderson, Chris Mochrie and Ben Dempsey. if those 4 come through thats probably most of the permanent signings with maybe a couple of loans to add a bit more quality and pace or cover at fullback. Would like to have signed Ethan Ingram but if we have McPherson and Logan then its hard to see how we could afford him and equally who he would displace when McPherson is fit
The Legend Blows
Smyth & Taylor would be nice, but I'd be surprised. No loss situation for both. St Mirren stay up, great for them. We go up, then they have a better option. Don't see now why they'd jump ship to us and drop down a league. Surely they'll have better offers if St Mirren release them? partickthedog
As @Jaggernaut has already noted on another thread, Brian Graham has taken himself out of the Thistle reckoning (not that this was ever going to happen!) by signing again for Ross County (and perhaps positioning himself as a potential managerial successor to Stuart Kettlewell). Lewis Strapp, the ex Morton and Airdrie long throw specialist, has also headed in the same direction.
Lenziejag
Might be in the minority, but I think Ashcroft is getting too slow and McBeth has too many mistakes in him to be his replacement.

He's never had any pace and to my eye still looks as slow as ever. Still played well through the playoff ties tbf. My MotM v Dunfermline at Firhill. Always surprised teams don't catch him out more with a quick forward, but maybe his experience is what keeps him at our level and not having to drop down a league. Third Lanark
Not sure im getting the huge clamour for Fraser Taylor. He didnt do a lot when he was here, dont recall him scoring or providing an assist, although he was unlucky with injury of course. Just my opinion of course but surprised so many seem to think he should be a definite target when i didnt think he made that much of a contribution although of course could have been different without injury. Smyth on the other hand of course made a massive contribution

Hopeless Unbeliever
Probably in the minority but I'd like to see MacKenzie get a one year extension to see what he can do, still only 20 (21 in August) with a decent number of senior games under his belt and can cover quite a few positions (probably to his detriment thus far). I still think there's a player in there and Wilson (who was probably a similar style of fullback to MacKenzie) and Rae could bring that out, trust them to make the judgement call though having watched him more closely.

Taylor made very impressive cameos coming on as a sub at important times and really making a difference away to St Johnstone in the league and Dunfermline in the play off. However, in his limited number of starts and his appearances at Firhill I cannot recall anything particularly memorable. He did seem to buy into the team spirit at Thistle (even when we were playing St Mirren). I think that there is a player there, but the jury is still out (apologies for double cliche). Happy to let Wilson and Rae make the call on this (if Taylor is interested in coming to us).

Stephen Craigan was the long thrower par excellence, often disappearing down the tunnel towards the changing rooms to get extra distance for his run up. At the other end of Firhill (ie in front of what would now be the John Lambie Stand, then newly constructed), I can recall one long throw from Craigan straight on to the head of Martin Hardie for the easiest of finishes. exiledjag
Raith Rovers will be working hard to strengthen their squad and Lennon at Dunfermline is already talking about a 'big clearout'. So these two together with Livingston will as usual make the Championship very competitive. The others teams all seem to be about a similar level with perhaps ICT a dark horse. I think Taylor, Budinaukus, MacKenzie and McKay will not be at Firhill next season. I suspect Turner, McKay-Stephen and perhaps Diack will leave as well. Throw in Chalmers, Fitzpatrick and Stanway and  including Martin, we have 11 leavers. Personally I would like Turner to stay but only if we play him as an advanced midfielder playing behind two strikers. I would also like the 3 above to stay ( AF, BS & LC). This is perhaps not as unrealistic as it seems as so far there has been no mention of clubs willing to sign any of the 3. Although a good player I just don't think Taylor has the physical attributes required to play at higher levels. The game is changing and teams/players are bigger, fitter and faster in the modern game. As far as signing new players is concerned I'm happy with the 3/4 names mentioned so far.
sandy
I’d like Fitzy & Turner to stay. Inevitable we will lose Stanway & Chalmers
lady-isobel-barnett
I think MacKenzie will likely be away. If kept on it'll be for his versatility.
Dick Dastardly
The last chance free kick from Turner summed him up. What do anyone see in him ? Total waste of a wage.

laukat
I think Turner needs a fresh start somewhere that will play him regularly in his preferred position. To my mind he's not been the same player since we had him playing at right back last season. I did read that Raith were looking at him however also read that Raith had some budget problems. Wherever he goes I hope he can recover what he once had. If nothing else his dead ball delivery used to be excellent but its been a long time since I've seen even that.
