No PTD.  Draft packets would have to be circulated between the arse cheeks until a mutually agreed format is reached.  One that includes tremendously penal sanctions for things like civil insurrection, pitch invasion, threatening behaviour etc.  Doncaster will sort it all out, don't you worry.

Looks like Josh Clarke loan will be as a benchwarmer at Doncaster as not started their league cup games, on bench today for league opener and Tommy Simkin gets the no 1 squad jersey with Clarke no 42.  Could affect his international call ups.

More concerned that it results in him coming back in January

I doubt many will argue that the position of striker is one of our strengths. We clearly need to rely on goals from midfielders and inverted wingers. Maybe above figures for Watt & Samuel are somewhat misleading in so much as often only one of the pair would be on the pitch. And when both on, Watt would often drop out of the striker role. But even so it's obvious neither of the two are natural strikers.

It's difficult tho' to envisage structural changes to the team. A large part of our relative good form over the last 12 months has been down to our starting set up and the introduction of wide and central midfielders after the 60 min mark. An out and out striker (a Brian Graham type) wouldn't fit into our style of play and would marginalise both Watt & Samuel. The latter in particular often a major constituent when we shake things up later in the game.

Scoring only two goals (neither from a striker) against our last 5 top league sides perhaps highlights our lack of an natural goalscoring No9. It may not hamper us too much in the 2nd tier if our midfielders continue to get into scoring positions like T & Crawford have done already. Time will tell.

I think it’s clear we need another penalty box striker, but more importantly Wilson seems to think so too (below).

Samuel does a great job for us but he can’t play 90 mins of every game. Watt does his best work outside the penalty box. I think we’ve already seen chances go a begging in the first few games of the season, we can’t rely on Samuel entirely even though we’d also want our midfielders/wingers to chip in. Can’t help feeling additional firepower in the box will be the difference between winning the league or ending up in the playoffs again.

From James Cairney’s excellent Thistle on Substack:
Wilson: “But the hardest thing is scoring goals, so we need to find a way when we come up against this level of quality, of turning that possession, those opportunities in the box, into goals. That’s the next level we need to get to if we’re going to get out of our division…

Is there a concern that the performance today was similar to the ones against St Mirren, where the team played quite well but were perhaps missing a cutting edge in the final third?
“Of course. Of course that is a concern because I want to get to the next level with this team. To get to the next level, you need to convert some of the chances and some of the territory. So like I was saying there, it’s great having all the territory and possession and it looks good on the eye, but you need to have a killer instinct as well.”

The trouble is that there are not many predatory strikers at Scottish Championship level.

You are absolutely correct and in previous seasons we've lucked out with Graham.

Even on our budget, surely Baraclough should be trawling far and wide and not just in the Scottish Leagues.

For me it goes back to the question, what are we paying a Sporting Director for.  There's nobody in the current squad that couldn't have been acquired in a traditional setup without a Sporting Director.

Guarantee there will be players we've missed out on because we have a Sporting Directors salary to pay for.

No doubt we'll get some no-mark young English reserve player or some old firm dud like Tony Weston or Stephane Bonnes (One for the slightly older fans there. 😮)

Bottom line is we've gotta unearth an at least 15 plus striker that can fit into our present set up. Or this striker being so prolific we'd change that set up to suit.

True if we're one behind the scenes enployee too many there could be scope for a further signing, but that's something nobody on here can know about. Can guess tho', and mine would be Baraclough has more than earned his salt.

Don’t think we’re going to unearth a 20 goal striker or MW is going to change our style of play.

I think we need a creative No 10 , think Scott Tiffoney fits the bill , he’s been bombed out at Killie and is currently playing with Dools U19 squad

Knows the Club inside out , could be an option.

Played wide left mostly last time and therefore Fitzy has to make way.

Don't think he's the answer but I'd take him if we were paying buttons or nothing to get the loan.

Doolan eventually played Tiff as the No 10 with Fitz out wide and it worked well

We could try Henderson in the number 9 spot. I am sure he didn’t get all his 19 goals last season from the wing.

Unfortunately I don't think he'll be the answer either.

Interesting when you look at his stats.

His league tally last year was 10 in 36

He got 9 in the first 17 and then 1 in the last 19 and that was the last game of the season.

He got 2 in 36 over 2 seasons with Hamilton in the Championship.

His best returns have been in League 1 with 10 in 31 and 14 in 28.

Could be a useful squad player for us but not sure he'll be at Firhill long term.

I'm absolutely positive Wilson, Rae and Baraclough fully researched his stats before we signed him of course. 🤔

From the few games that I have seen him play in, when he shoots it is on target in the vast majority of the time.

Tiff is not the player he was when he left us. There is a reason why he can’t get into a poor Killy side and was punted by Dundee. We tend to have rose tinted glasses when looking at former players and see the player they were rather than the player they are.

Not sure all your facts are right , he was offered a contract at Dundee but turned it down for Kilmarnock’s offer

Main reason he’s not getting a game at Killie is they don’t play with wingers

He played well at Dundee in the Premier, are you seriously saying at 27yrs old his best days are behind him .

I would take him back in a heartbeat, he did want to play at a higher level, no different to Stanway or Fitzy or players like Archibald, Scott Paterson etc before

If MW thinks Tiff could make a difference and get us to the Premier League , then why not ?
