allyo
Given that no one on this forum is watching what our sporting director does on a day to day basis, I'd say the only way to judge his performance or value is to consider the quality of our signings and our results. Which everyone seems pretty positive about. There's not a lot of point in speculating about whether they'd be as good or better if he wasn't there, because he is. Actually BBG rejected the offer at circa 10pm on the Wednesday - No one had spoken to Mark Wilson since the Final Play Off Game ( as confirmed by himself on Clyde Scoreboard ) - at 10 am on the Thursday ~ he met with the then Club Chairman & Barraclough - then it was announced he was the New Head Coach at Lunchtime - Barraclough then left the Club to go down South ~ as he was getting married the next day~ then going on Honeymoon Mark Wilson was never on the Short List ( or any other list ) for the Managers Job His Track Record was Airdrie & Brechin so it was a big risk - obviously its worked out - but that was luck - not Good Planning

Wilson has said he is probably done.
Jimmy McD
It's now gone 22.00 hours, can I go to bed 🛏️ 🛏️ or do I stay up in anticipation that we are going to get a goal scorer in the door before it closes????¿

We can still sign loans or non-contract players though

Yellow & Redneck
I can't see anything that would suggest that we can still sign players on loan. Seems that the loan and transfer window for Championship clubs was standardised this year (with the exception of teams with a Co-op Agreement). Cup goals irrelevant Henderson 1 in the last 19 for Airdrie last season before someone mentions him again. I genuinely hope we somehow click and have one of those seasons where goals come from everywhere. Just wish we had the insurance of a striker who had 10-15 league goals in his locker. Banging the same old drum here, but we look man for man the best squad in the league except in the final third. Find it mad that we've left ourselves without a proper striker. Watt ain't a No.9 and for all Samuels hustle and bustle, he'll never bang in 15+ goals. 🤞Humble pie, eat my words and all that come May. fenski
Wasn't last year pretty much that? If my quick search is correct: we scored 53 league goals last year (when we didn't have any notional 15+ goals a season striker). The season before when big Brian was knocking them in, we scored 43 goals. Our average goals scored over the last 5 seasons is 54 or therabouts.

Think supporters are getting concerned because this season we’ve got 2 strikers who haven’t scored and also the midfielders like Ben Stanway aren’t scoring either . partickthedog
James Cairney Thistle substack article has Mark Wilson saying that he will be keeping an eye on the loan market this month. I presume that Mark knows the rules.

Yellow & Redneck
It seems pretty clear that we still need an out-and-out striker, although finding someone who actually fits the bill at this stage won't be easy. On a very quick look at possible six-month options, Ross MacIver and Seb Palmer-Houlden would probably stand out if we're looking for a taller, more physical focal point, particularly if both are going to struggle for regular minutes at their current clubs. Callum Hendry might be another interesting one. He's not quite the same type physically, but he's coming back from injury, will presumably need games, and has a fairly respectable scoring record at this level and above. The only drawback is that he probably doesn't give us quite as different an option up front. I also seem to remember some talk a few months ago about trying to establish a co-operation agreement with a Premiership club. If that was still being explored, you'd imagine this is exactly the sort of situation where it could be useful.
