BowenBoys Posted June 1 Report Share Posted June 1 We are going bigly. We're Stateside, after all. So this has to be the biggest, the best and the shiniest ever. The number of countries competing is up from 32 to 48. The number of games increases to 104 (previously 64). After the Group stage we have Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarters, Semis, Third Place & Final. Initially there are 12 groups of 4 teams. The top 2 in each group progress automatically. Additionally, the 8 best performing 3rd placed teams also go through. Our competition is in two parts. For the group stage you must place the teams in the order you think they will finish in their group. In the knockout phase we revert to HAHAs for each game. There will be bonuses. If you get all 4 teams in a group in the right order there will be a bonus point. You must identify the groups from which you think the third placed team will progress. Correct predictions will double the points accrued for that group. There will be a Trump Card (gold in colour) in play during the knockout phase. Pick one country. All points gained by that team in the knockout phase will be doubled. You must declare your Trump team at the start of the competition. Finally I love running these competitions but it's a fair bit of work. The more players there are the easier it becomes for me. So, please, let's make this a super-sized competition. BowenBoys Posted June 1 Author Report Share Posted June 1 (edited) Group Stage Teams are listed within their groups in FIFA ranking order. Therefore they should each finish in 1, 2, 3, 4 order. But they won't. Your task is to number each team , in order, noting the position they will finish. For example, if you think Group L will finish in reverse of the order shown, you should write 4321. I need 12 groups of 4 numbers. Additionally, for the 8 groups where you think the 3rd place team will progress, add an asterisk to the 4 numbers for that group. Something like this: 2341, 1234*, 3421*, 2134, etc. Forgot to say: I also need your Trump Card country. Hope that's clear. This World Cup has left me completely cold, starting with the ludicrous “peace” award to Trump, the massive distances to move between matches (what is the carbon footprint?) and the extortionate prices for tickets, accommodation and travel. Before we even start on the visa restrictions for some teams/supporters. The whole group stage is a joke with 3rd placed teams in a group of 4 getting a chance to progress.(More important not to lose than it is to win). Really wanted to see Scotland in a World Cup, but this is a farce and quite honestly, I couldn’t care less what happens and doubt I’ll be watching any games.
