England will qualify directly so there are 2 spots between us, Wales and Ireland. With both Wales and Ireland's current trajectory I would expect one of them to make it automatically. I reckon we'll make 2028 through the back door. Beyond that I'm really not optimistic at all. So there is still the possibility of not being there. From first hand accounts getting anything new done within the SFA was impossible - "like fornicating through a mattress" The squad is old and needs replaced, what better time to appoint a young overseas manager with new ideas for a young Scottish squad which is almost certain to "qualify" in 2028. We had to take a point off Morocco and we did have 2 valid penalty shouts but no other threat up top. We finished where our ranking, form, team value all consistent with group position. However, up to that point Belgium, despite having been 2-0 down for half an hour, were still persisting with a slow and toothless build up and displaying very little urgency. I suppose they were lucky that, unlike Scotland, when they did choose to go full throttle, Belgium had the cutting edge and the talented players to turn the game in 10 minutes. These aren't about whether a ball slightly touched somebody's upper arm, but about defenders absolutely bear-hugging attackers at corners, making it impossible for them to move, and even jersey pulling in the box to the point when it got ripped off the attacker's back,.... but no penalty given.
