jagfox Posted July 29 Report Share Posted July 29 Here we go with the league kicking off against 'crisis club', Greenock Morton. Interesting to see how we line-up as plenty of options going forward but a few gaps at the back as well. We also haven't seen and end to the Ben Stanway Saga. Morton are having a right time of it and had a catastrophic league cup campaign. They have added a young keeper from Man United, Elyh Harrison so interesting to see if he comes in. We really need to be getting off to a winning start here, imo. However, we have played teams in similar predicaments and come unstuck. lady-isobel-barnett Posted July 29 Report Share Posted July 29 Morton away is the only fixture where I look at the weather forecast first before deciding whether to attend. Looks touch and go at the moment. Cappielow is also up there along with visits to the ugly sisters' quarters where I grudge giving them money. Right, above out the way, normally I'd be content enough with an away point to kick off the season. Especially at the likes of Cappielow where a change to a narrow line up is often preferable. But as said Morton are in turmoil and surely there for the beating and anything other than a deserved win will surely be a considerable disappointment. Concern from me is it's so early in the season and difficult to get up to top gear. There's always the likelihood to disappoint. Btw thinking an emphatic win for us could spell the end of Ian Murray's tenure down the River. Could he be the first manager in World Football History to be sacked in the first week of August TWICE*? *I know, probably loads of them. Auld Jag Posted July 29 Report Share Posted July 29 We can't afford to start this game the way we did against Stenhousemuir, if we do we will lose. We need to be on the front foot from the first whistle and if we go a goal up don't sit back thinking the game is finished. Get 2 or more goals ahead and the home crowd will turn against the manager and team. You could argue a 2-0 defeat to this current Morton side is a worse result than 5-1 to the league favs last season but not in terms of score. Feel like 3 points are needed with 2 tough games to come after this. Out of those 4 games it ended with 2 draws and 2 victories for us. In the last 3 of those games we scored in the 90th minute or later to get a draw in one of them and goals in injury time to get victories in the other 2. elevenone Posted July 31 Report Share Posted July 31 Update from club on social media. “On Thursday, we communicated that Greenock Morton had warned that any Thistle fan entering the Cowshed on Saturday could result in the away turnstiles being closed. We put it to Morton that this would be disproportionate and asked them to reconsider. They have since confirmed it was a miscommunication. Their position is that a "mass incursion" into the Cowshed, or any home area of Cappielow, could divert security away from the away turnstiles and lead to a temporary closure while any situation is dealt with. That is a routine response to a security situation, and not one we expect to see on Saturday. Yellow & Redneck Posted August 1 Report Share Posted August 1 (edited) Been poor at keeping the ball. Mr T needs to man-up. Been pushed off the ball far too easily. Good news with Dempsey and Stanway is that Crawford will be no where near the team. His passing is an absolute embarrassment. Four or five times in the half he couldn't find a 10-yard pass. Despite the bar being rattled twice, we have still been rather toothless. Reminds me of the first-half against Stenny and the second-half against Forfar. Morton are poor, but Garrity is showing the little bit of quality that will eventually lead to something.
