thistle4celtic1
You can watch the game here..... https://www.camel1.tv/football/greenock-morton-vs-partick-thistle-fc/live/n54qllhnyw6pqvy No commentary and is out of sync with Jagzone audio. Cheaper than the $500 Morton wanted when I added the game to my basket on their website lol.

partickthedog
At the game. Fairly even though we have had the better chances and hit the bar twice. Too static and slow in the build up and some careless concessions of possession by Crawford and others. Logan injured. Ingram on which probably strengthens the team. i expect at least one more change at halftime to inject some urgency and more changes sooon after. Samuel, Drozd and Henderson would surely shake things up. It is the sort of game we almost need to lose a goal so that we can fight back and win 2-1. Fawlty Towers
Victory and that is all that matters today. Always thought it would be much harder than people were saying. 3 points better than this time last season with the GD 5 to the good. Can work on things during the week and get players back for Friday night.
Auld Jag
If we have any ambitions to be challenging for the title we have to improve our away form from last season. So a good start and it is always good to get the 3 points in what sounded like a tight game. Although not as late as some of our goals last season against Morton another lateish goal. Fawlty Towers
Not related to the actual football - why were we playing in our home top and shorts with the away socks when the black home socks would not be a clash with Morton's blue & white ones? I know the ref was in black but surely that would not confuse anyone?
Yellow & Redneck
So, Logan and Ingram both injured. Hoping McPherson is back soon.

Seem to be getting injuries in the one area. Wilson said in his interview for the Thistle substack that they have a bounce game lined up during the week for the likes of McPherson, Dempsey & Stanway so hopefully we will get stronger. partickthedog
Henderson and Drozd made a huge difference when they came on. Both very positive attacking players who really try to influence the game.
laukat
We were poor in the first half. Only really Let'sosa out of the midfield 3 got pass marks with Crawford miles off it and Smyth fairly anonymous. Second half we over powered Morton with the big difference being the subs. We were putting on men and Morton had to throw on boys. Moving Fitzpatrick inside with Henderson outside really opened things up. Fitzpatrick's run for the goal was match winning, full length of the park and ran past about 4 Morton defenders before picking out Drozd and after his shot was blocked Let'sosa knocked in the rebound Fitzpatrick was miles above anything else on show, we just didn't get the ball to him in the first 45
partickthedog
Morton never looked like scoring, and I do not think that our goalkeeper had to make a single save of consequence. We hit the bar twice and the post once, but we were not as dominant as that might suggest. It was always a tight game. What was pleasing was that, after we scored, we kept playing the game in their half and had lots of good possession and opportunities to score. Apart from a couple of corners and a few long throws Morton did not put us under any significant pressure. There was no sense of hanging on desperately to the win. thornwoodjag
Fair play to Mr Wilson for not taking the whole front 3 off which I and probably a few others were thinking was going to happen. Nobody was really bad or did anything wrong but nobody was outstanding. Just some better decision making required by the players.
Jimmy McD
Thought Henderson was brilliant when he came on, got to start on Friday night, that place really is really a dump.. Hu
partickthedog
Two absolutely brilliant runs, one by Lets'osa and of course the one by Fitzpatrick which resulted in the goal. In both cases they showed amazing speed and skill to outpace the defence. What I especially liked was that they both homed in on the goal to create maximum threat rather than take the ball out wide (which so often tends to happen in these situations). Delighted for T. He seems to have stepped up again this season after rather fading towards the end of last season. Yet still there is that old failing of the final touch, pass or shot not quite working or being easily pushed off the ball. So it was great that he had the composure to slow himself down and direct the ball into the goal. He knows that he has a big challenge this season to get time on the pitch when Stanway and Dempsey are fully fit and ready to join Smyth. Hopefully he will respond to that as competition is going to drive everyone forward. Ingram looked superb in his relatively brief appearance. It seems that his injury was more in the nature of being temporarily stunned by a knee in the back rather than something more serious and long-lasting. We need him on the pitch. Made two excellent runs, one with the ball and one without, both of which resulted in creating chances in their penalty box. Bit of a cliche, but he oozes class. Final comment. Reasonable headcount of seagulls, which you would expect in a location close to the sea. But nowhere near the number at landlocked Livingston. Quick PS. Well done Matty Falconer. Calm and composed. Linked up well with Drozd. Shows that he is someone we can rely on, even in an unfamiliar position. jaggy
The most important thing from my point of view yesterday was to start the season with an away win. Morton battled hard and made the first hour a tough watch, yet we still came close hitting the bar twice. All subs made a big difference, especially as Drozd and Henderson are very happy at taking on opponents and running at them. As mentioned earlier Ingram looked excellent too. Our squad depth could make a big difference this season. As mentioned in the ‘best starting 11’ thread, this is very much a squad game now and its down to MW & AR to manage the squad, keep them all motivated and get the best out of them. Finally, a bit sorry for Lewis Bud not being selected. McFarlane had virtually nothing to do, but apart from a couple of poor kick outs he looked very assured. lady-isobel-barnett
Know nothing about Morton's financial situation apart from it not being that healthy. I do think tho' they look strong enough to compete creditably in the bottom half of the division. If true that's personally a bit of a disappointment. Strangely, despite getting beaten and still not scoring a single goal so far, Ian Murray's job might be a tad safer today. While I agree with partickthedog that T has had a good start to the season I felt more performances like yesterday, even tho' he scored the goal, could relegate him to the bench. More so for away games where we need a good bit more dig. Obviously when Dempsey and especially Stanway are fit at least one midfielder from yesterday likely won't be starting. With his pace, nuisance value and general positivity I genuinely hope we don't lose T from a starting slot on a routine basis.

The keeper is one area that you don't want a lot of chopping and changing in during a season so hopefully McFarlane can get an extended run.
