Jaggernaut Posted August 10 Report Share Posted August 10 (edited) Deserved Player of the Month in July, thanks to shut-outs, penalty saves, yet immediately sidelined--again--for an incoming, on-loan keeper with less experience. If I were him I'd be raging. And I don't agree with "just keep training and your time will come" platitude, because it looks like basically, despite what gets said, and despite how well he might play, he's just not fancied by the management team, at least not more than reluctantly as a back-up. I think Bud light will have appreciated the security of a 2 year deal. If he left in the summer in search of being first choice then he would probably be looking at League 1 and part-time football. If we get promoted and he gets even a few games in the premier league he's much more likely to get the opportunity of being a number 1 at a fulltime club. It's a kinda Catch22. We don't want to buy a goalie as that would send out a bad message to Young Bud and for that matter to the even Younger Storey. So we do the next best thing we bring a player in on loan. But the parent club are only going to loan the player if he's guaranteed playing time. That's maybe not the best example of a Catch22 but It's a bit of a conundrum all the same. As far as goalkeepers are concerned, I think you can get a sense of how a keepers going to do by how he performs at penalties. And McFarlane was nowhere near any of the penalties vs Stenhousemuir. He was only used as a sub on Saturday, so he may end up back at Firhill. You may have suggested this once or twice as a preferred course of action. We can’t rely on handouts and cup runs every year after all!! (😂) I have never at any point suggested that you cut anything related to the Football Coaching Side - in very simple terms the Goalkeeper is a Key Part of the Football Product & can be the weakest link - at the time of the decision to cut the hours of the Goal Keeping Coach there were multiple options for savings In Business the one thing you don't do is cut the Quality of your Core Product We do not need Handouts nor Cup Runs to increase the amount of Coaching to our Goalkeepers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We have Coaches who cover the Squad a GK Coach is a different type of Coach from outfield Players - how will our GK Improve if there not being Coached ?
