elevenone Posted August 22 Report Share Posted August 22 Conceding in 89th min always a sore one but had we conceded 10mins earlier we may well have gone onto lose game.  A point for both about right I think and hopefully tactic wise we will not try to sit on slim leads going forward. Hopefully a few draws today and with our next two games at home could be a chance to open a gap already. Its our Achilles heal not getting that second goal before half time and killing off the game. Completely lost the battle to control possession in the middle of the park in the second half. Shinnie had them in his pocket. Frustrating as until last night I’d have said midfield was where we had more variety and depth. It’s pretty clear our first choice midfield isn’t yet ready to see out 90 minutes as well which doesn’t help. I wondered whether, rather than take Samuel off in a game like that, it makes more sense to bring Watt into the midfield. Not sure the GMS sub was the right one either unless Drodz had a knock? No stranger to the half time conversation based on a "We've been good, but we really should be more than one goal up" Watching (albeit from afar on TV), I thought no matter how much our play had dropped off in the second half, we were seeing the game out professionally. Of course avoiding giving away free kicks anywhere near your goal is an integral part of that discipline. Shades of Armstrong v England last night?. But even if yesterday feels like a defeat you can still get considerable cheer from our 7 points from 9. Drodz was subbed while he was still effective but Fitzpatrick was obviously tiring. In hindsight, adding Watt to Samuel's attack while narrowing the strike force might have been more effective. In the end, control over the ICT defensive third was completely conceded (with McFarlane particularly guilty of blootering long balls to concentrations of ICT defenders), allowing them to build attacks, leaving us to rue the consequences. When there are 4 minutes of normal time to go, trying to keep possession at the opposition corner flag is nothing short of delusional tactics. A painful last couple of minutes in the game unfortunately. As others have said 7 points from the first 3 games a reasonable start. Conceding an equaliser so late on in a game is always deflating, but we did get a few last minute goals to get a point or even 3 last season, even our winner against Morton a few weeks ago was in the last 8 minutes or so. just need to see how the games go today and hopefully get 3 points next week. This was pretty much how I saw it. Bringing on Dempsey helped the midfield but Crawford didn't really add much. Let'sosa and Stanway were good first half when we were dominating territory and possession but ICT figured out that they leave gaps behind them and it left Smyth too much to cover. Thought Smyth was good again and has in the last couple taken away the odd mad moment. Would have putt Watt wide and left Samuel on rather than putting GMS on if we needed to take Drozd off. I think GMS only really works in games were we are dominating possession, not sure he's the guy to put on to hold on to a win Losing McPherson at halftime didn't help as we as playing really well and generally appears to be a more attack minded rightback than Ingram Loughrey was very good, as was Fitzpatrick, McFarlane and Samuel. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If we can take 9 points from them we could be looking good at the top of the table. Auld Jag Posted August 22 Report Share Posted August 22 I agree that it is always disappointing to lose a goal in the last minutes of a game that means something. Also we fell asleep at the free kick, allowing the taker to play a 1-2 with a teammate and then let him get closer to the area before he put in what was a very good cross. We are only 3 games in and hopefully we have learned from what happened last night, we also have to keep going for goals after we have scored the first. With Stenhousemuir playing their league cup 1/4 final the weekend we were due to play them we will probably have 3 home games in a row, let's hope we can take full points from them.
